I still stand by the point that we haven't sent a decent song since Scooch. And I will die on the hill that Flyin' the Flag was iconic and brilliant!

It was a hot mess but looking back it's actually iconic now and it's the best staging the UK have done in a long time!!

"Would you like something to suck on before landing, Sir" ;)...

It should be the British Airways soundtrack.

I actually hate Sam Ryder’s song but that being said it is very Eurovision and the best we have entered in a while so i think he will do well 🏆

The acoustic version is beautiful and his vocals are amazing! I prefer his song "More" but I predict it's going to do well. He's a very likeable chap.

This reaction video to Sam Ryder is hilarious. He called him Jesus and said his merch should be:

HAIR
BEARD
VOICE

Sam Ryder is an incredible singer and he knows how to slay. The live version is better than the recorded one.

He doesn't need to be dressed as a space, man. Hand him a microphone and let him create magic.
Yep, I think they should change his look as little as possible and keep the staging simple maybe with a few unobtrusive graphics in the background. Keep it natural. Hope he gets a good slot in the running order.

I heard murmering on twitter that the staging is being done by the same team who did Lucie's in 2017 - which was by FAR our nicest staging (and it paid off with a middle-table finish)

If I see polystyrene rockets ANYWHERE on that stage....:mad:
I hope they don't tie back his hair either and put him in a stuffy suit or a stupid costume, keep him natural like he is in the video and he'll charm people.

Italy has drawn 9th position in the running order. Not amazing not terrible.

No please no I hope he doesn't tie his hair back! Give that man a wind machine.

9th is not great as traditionally the winner comes later in the 2nd half with a couple of exceptions. I prefer Mahmood's entry Soldi from 2019.

I loved Soldi, top tune.

Fully expecting the BBC to take inspo for Sam Ryder from this Montenegro gem. Please give him space, man 👨‍🚀

Or Moldova 2016 😂😂

I hope that they don't put any cheesy dancers on stage with Sam and that he stays true to himself. No horrible suits or space ships either.
If he sticks to what he usually does on stage it will be much better.

Agreed! Sometimes less is more - like Satellite winning in 2010 or Amar Pelos Dois in 2017.

i think the furthest they could push the space thing without it being overkill is by utilising luke jerram's gaia or museum of the moon, would be nice to incorporate work from british artists! i think nice twinkly lights or a moonlight style focus on him would allow his voice to shine

Given that he has a strong voice and the song isn’t half bad I hope they just stick to simple staging with maybe a ‘wow’ moment thrown in

Well-sung ballads (including Arcade to an extent?) with simple staging have done so well the past few years afterall. Though the risk is that someone vocally better is going to steal that spotlight from you I’d guess

There doesn't seem to be an obvious winner this year. I think Sweden is the best bet at the moment, can see it winning the jury vote and doing well in the televote.
I don't think Ukraine will get enough jury votes to win.
Italy should do well with jury and televote but not sure they'll get enough to win, plus there are a lot of ballads this year so not sure it will stand out especially in 9th position.

It could all change when we see the staging and running order.

Arcade is a beautiful emotional song that needed simplicity and they nailed it.

“I've spent all of the love I saved
We were always a losing game
Small town boy in a big arcade
I got addicted to a losing game”

🥲🥲🥲

There’s no standout winner for me yet but I enjoyed listening to Norway’s “before the Wolf eats my Grandma, give that wolf a banana” earlier 🍌🍌

I’m undecided about Sweden. There are lots of “sad girl” ballads this year and I’m not sure about the staging. Arcade couldn’t top the televote in 2019.

My favourite is Norway 2019 “Spirit in the Sky” by KEiiNO and 2010 Turkey “We could be the same” by maNga is an honourable mention.

(& shoutout to Verka Serduchka)
