Even if the UK have a good song, we’re always let down by a poor live performance and staging.
Looking forward to it though! But I hate the new voting system
I agree, although if Sam Ryder is our entrant he does have the most beautiful live voice. He’s added this stripped back live version of Space Man to YouTube and his vocal is incredible:

His huge TikTok following - and 3.9-million on Insta - and the fact that Space Man is being played on French, German and Italian radio might help us not end up quite rock bottom of the score board too.

I really hope he is the choice. I’ve heard Claudia Valentina and Chelcee Grimes are in the running too but I’m going to keep my fingers crossed for Sam.

Most of the entries have been revealed now. I haven't listened to all of them, but I'm generally a bit disappointed so far. In fairness 2021 was an exceptionally good year.

Anyone watched the Serbian entry, it's very strange.

Yes, I’d love this to be the UK entry

Ukraine and Norway are my favourites so far. France is promising but the vocals and staging need work.

I'm not loving Italy, but it will probably win unless something better emerges from the remaining countries.

An awful lot of male ballads this year.
I think it’ll be Ukraine and Norway for the top 2 based on what I’ve heard so far. I really like the French entry. It’s got a touch of the sea shanty gone Glastonbury dance tent and it’ll probably do very well on TikTok.

Sorry to bang on about Sam Ryder again but if the Eurovision London Party is to be believed it looks like ‘Space Man’ is pretty much guaranteed to be the UK entry.

Unless it’s a massive red herring, of course.

I'd love to see France get a win for the first time since 1977. They've really upped their game in the last few years. Interesting to see them sing in Breton.

I'm very disappointed in the Swiss entry that was released this morning. It's a jazzy ballad which isn't my cup of tea. I LOVED Gjon's Tears last year.

Now, I didn’t like the Swiss entry last year, but I like this year’s less. I think the French singing in Breton is a master stroke. It will do very well with the Balkan countries.

I’m excited to hear Iceland’s and wonder where they’ll go from the superlative Dadi Freyr.

I’ve been quite disappointed by Sweden over the last couple of years - I think their higher placements have flattered them - and listening to the four finalists for Melodifestivalen I’m not sure they’ve got anything that will challenge Norway or Ukraine.

Agreed 👏

Adele could be our entry and she would still come last.

Sorry but I find this attitude really frustrating, it's like everyone in the UK is really defeatist about Eurovision. If we can't get behind our own entry how can we expect Europe to? Yes last year was really disappointing and the performance could have been better, but in a really strong year like that we probably wouldn't have voted for our own entry! We need to send quality songs that stand out and that we would actually vote for ourselves.

Also I agree re feeling a bit meh about this year's songs. Haven't got round to listening to some of them yet but so far it's only Ukraine, Norway and North Macedonia I'm into. Spain is good and everything but I think it's overrated, it's basically another Fuego and it doesn't stand out for me. The performance is excellent and extremely slick, but it's not a dance contest. Also not feeling Albania even post-revamp 😐

I’ve just listened to it again and I think you might be right. Great song. I love her voice. It’s not quite ‘there’ for me yet but definitely stacks up much higher than most of this year’s confirmed entries.

Good voice, but it's not my cup of tea as a song. It will likely do very well.

Iceland is one of my favourite countries in Eurovision, I haven't listened to their national final contenders so fingers crossed.

The Germany song is a favourite to...get zero points.

I like the Spain song, it's not amazing but it's an upbeat dance number I can imagine hearing on hols, similar to Fuego which was everywhere when I was in Greece in summer 2018.

Cyprus have just released their entry. It’s gone down an absolute storm in Cyprus - it’s the most authentically Cypriot sounding entry in years, apparently - and will do really well with the Med and Aegean countries + Australia, I’d wager.

Aw, I hope nobody gets the old nil point this year. I hate that. Germany will now be getting my sympathy vote.

I saw this on Twitter, at least Thomas Skinner & Rylan would be entertaining. If we're going to be stuck with nil points again, at least have a laugh with it. Last year's act just fell flat:

Looking forward to seeing what all of the countries produce this year.

My gut says that the staging will be horrible and thus ruin any chances of her decent place (I fear the same for Germany and Ireland). But hopefully I‘m wrong. Very decent song!
I’ve gone full ‘Stan’ now because, after a bit of digging around the socials it looks like Sam’s performance will be staged by Black Skull Creative. Sam follows them and their head honcho, Dan Shipton, on Insta. They look great. It also looks like our artistic director will be Marvin Dietmann, who’s Eurovision royalty. All very promising, if true.

I don’t know about anyone else but this is just the distraction I need right now from the horror in Ukraine. I really don’t mean to be flippant or shallow, but it is lovely to have a great UK entry to get behind with a bit of positivity and I guess that’s what most of us need right now: positivity.
