This is good.

Yay! Sam Ryder is confirmed. Is everyone going to get behind him? He’s such an amazing artist - and is getting a good reaction on the Eurovision socials - that I hope the competition launches his career proper. He deserves it.

I don't like this type of song, but it's a decent effort and he has a nice voice. I hope he does well and restores the faith of the UK public in UK's chances of succeeding at Eurovision, it might encourage other good artists to take part next year too

I'm really liking France but I'm concerned that the vocals and staging could trip them up, it wasn't as polished as it should be. I could also see them being given a poor slot in the running order like 1st, to open the show with a bang.

Rumours abound that Malta is changing its song after a poor reception to "Out of Sight"

I'm loving the Ukraine song.

Another one for us to watch. From the makers of Eurovision, we now have the American Song Contest, with songs from all 50 states. Presented by Snoop Dogg and Kelly Clarkson, with people like Michael Bolton, Macy Gray and Jewel representing their respective states. Starts March 21st.

Two hours is an inadequate amount of time to do this in. Especially with all the inevitable and breaks and sponsor plugs they will need to fit in.

I mean the two hour show is *just* the launch - there'll be x3 qualifying rounds, semis and then the grand final is just before normal Eurovision. I probably won't watch it but it does seem like a fun contest. And hopefully keeps them out of OUR song contest :ROFLMAO:

Oh right. Should've probably read the article properly. 😆

Yeah, they aren't coming anywhere near proper Eurovision. They just wouldn't get it.

Sorry but I find this attitude really frustrating, it's like everyone in the UK is really defeatist about Eurovision. If we can't get behind our own entry how can we expect Europe to? Yes last year was really disappointing and the performance could have been better, but in a really strong year like that we probably wouldn't have voted for our own entry! We need to send quality songs that stand out and that we would actually vote for ourselves.

Also I agree re feeling a bit meh about this year's songs. Haven't got round to listening to some of them yet but so far it's only Ukraine, Norway and North Macedonia I'm into. Spain is good and everything but I think it's overrated, it's basically another Fuego and it doesn't stand out for me. The performance is excellent and extremely slick, but it's not a dance contest. Also not feeling Albania even post-revamp 😐
In Spain there was a huge drama because Tanxugueiras was the winner of televote and the jury deliberately voted them low so they could not win (they sing in a coofficial language and it would be the first time Spain sends a song in a regional language). They received backlash because a lot of people that had never voted before spent their money for nothing (me included). The song that won in the end was composed by some guy some years ago and it had been rejected by several record labels so they just wanted to get it in Eurovision to make money. Most people don't like the song as it is a copycat of other songs like Fuego and the lyrics are ridiculous. We had a chance of sending an original song and they made all this circus to get the song they wanted to win.

I've just listened to a few of the songs being touted as favourites:
Ukraine - A horrible dirge with a rapper. I absolutely hated it but of course it will probably win due to the current situation
Poland - A good song sung well but I've already forgotten it.
Italy - not my taste at all boring
Greece - can see why this is popular as the production is a bit different
Sweden - ok but overhyped
Australia - he's a good singer but its all too over wrought for my taste

Italy should have sent them and no one can tell me otherwise

I get the hype for Mahmood and the other guy but Italians made a mistake

Having watched Eurovision since Ukraine won in 2004 and the plethora of terrible UK entries, I think Sam Ryder is an excellent choice for the UK. His voice has been compared to Freddie Mercury & Elton John. He can sing ANYTHING and the song has been well received on social media and the YT first listen reaction videos. He is a charismatic performer, not somebody from a 'talent show' or 'reality show' and he really knows how what works for him.

TaP Music/the BBC have promised staging like the UK have never done before... take that as you wish.

I haven't listened to many of the entries yet. I like Sweden's song but I think the singer is meh.

Im just so pleased that we have a credible singer and song this year. Sam is easily the best we've sent this century in my opinion.

I haven't yet heard another song that I like more than Sam's. Even if he doesn't win he'll do well and become a big star after Eurovision.

I actually hate Sam Ryder’s song but that being said it is very Eurovision and the best we have entered in a while so i think he will do well 🏆
