The criteria that the government will use to decide when the restrictions can be lifted was published months ago and the data is freely available
That's bollocks and you know it. They gave some vague statements about variants of concern and the NHS being overwhelmed. They never gave the criteria for these statements. The figures they publish daily/weekly DO NOT support an extension to the current restrictions.

Certainly not, work 40 hours a week and manage it all by myself no support. Just had to support myself, no one ever really cared!
I do feel really sad for those with ME and CFS. They have been ignored for years and told their symptoms are all made up

Roll on later when Boris can say deaths have risen 300%.

Those in support of extending restrictions do you really think 3 deaths justifies it?

Today’s NHS England death number is 2. Both of them are in the 80+ category. It is not known if they died due to covid or with covid.

Daily Mail now saying will be pushed back to AUGUST and that it’s likely roadmap will be reversed. Apparently they think even if lockdowns can be eased over summer they will be back in winter 😞 I can cope with how things are now - but I don’t think I’d cope with another full lockdown over winter again.

They can just fuck right off at this point

Exactly they said expected cases to go up that’s why it’s not in the ‘criteria’ apparently but as long as it didn’t put pressure on the nhs it would be fine. Conveniently they forgot to say what that measurements would be. Now they can come out and say it’s hit our test for too much to ease restrictions we just forgot to tell you what that measurement would be but luckily we have it now

Roll on 6pm. Make that 8:30pm as he has been late to a few of the briefs. 😅

Can’t be as late as the one last year that was some record 🤣🙈

Why are you talking about Boris's briefs  :p

Another vaccine ready in a few months time :) The world need all the help it can get to make sure everyone who wants to be vaccinated can be fully vaccinated ASAP around the world.

Tbh im shitting my pants about it all as I'm about to start a new job and dreading the consequences of lockdown and furlough as I've worked right threw it all as I work in food supply but that will change. I get so down with worry but ..

We have to look at Israel as a good case study, they have the Indian varient and vaccines have proven to work well they were free and ahead of us by months because they're vaccine roll out was quicker and their population was double dosed much quicker. They've now ditched their masks.

The vaccines work we just need these extra 10 million to get done. Why they didn't work harder to achieve our 21st June date is the biggest let down

This is the criteria that was published by the government on 22 February.

"Only when the government is sure that it is safe to move from one step to the next will the final decision be made. The decision will be based on four tests:
  • the vaccine deployment programme continues successfully
  • evidence shows vaccines are sufficiently effective in reducing hospitalisations and deaths in those vaccinated
  • infection rates do not risk a surge in hospitalisations which would put unsustainable pressure on the NHS
  • our assessment of the risks is not fundamentally changed by new Variants of Concern"
You may hold the opinion that they are not sufficiently precise. You clearly also hold the opinion that the data does not support an extension of restrictions. I have not offered an opinion on either issue but obviously some people disagree with you on one or both.

Originally, I was trying to understand why 21st June seems to be represented as a critical date after which things will get much worse. What I am seeing from other posters is that businesses and customers have made plans that assumed that the lifting of restrictions would definitely go ahead on that date which has been helpful. Responses that describe my post as 'bollocks' not so much.

As previously stated they are vague statements. They provide no specific targets and are entirely subjective because of the lack of targets.

As such, to state the government published the criteria is, in my opinion, bollocks.

I have annotated your post, see underlined bits

"Only when the government is sure that it is safe to move from one step to the next will the final decision be made. The decision will be based on four tests:
  • the vaccine deployment programme continues successfully - as of today nearly 30 million people have been doubled jabbed
  • evidence shows vaccines are sufficiently effective in reducing hospitalisations and deaths in those vaccinated - the data supports this. The link between cases and hospitalisation has been severed
  • infection rates do not risk a surge in hospitalisations which would put unsustainable pressure on the NHS - the data supports this
  • our assessment of the risks is not fundamentally changed by new Variants of Concern - as Theresa May said in the HoC there will always be new variants.

Before the Delta variant came along the thinking was that a single vaccination would give people enough protection to be getting on with. Therefore the plan was mainly to get them done for as many people as possible and the 'roadmap' for lifting the restrictions designed on that basis. On the way it was going I think most people would have had a first vaccination by now. However, a single vaccination doesn't provide as much protection against the Delta variant so the government had to switch to trying to give as many second vaccinations as possible and the rate of first vaccinations has slowed down.

I don't know the details of Israel's vaccination programme but of course it has a much smaller population. I don't know if it would have been possible for the UK to vaccinate any faster than we have. Did we have enough vaccinations or the right type of vaccinations once the decision over AZ was made?

Not only are they vague, they're clever!

Vaccination drive... they're never ever going to get everyone to agree to having 1 or both vaccines. Some may even refuse the boosters when they start. That means they can always blame something (next will targeting parents for not consenting to kids being jabbed, then blaming them for cases)

Variants.. now that's their get out. There will always be a new variant. As soon as that was added in you knew that we were going to be on a perpetual cycle of restrictions

But you're telling me why you think the criteria have been met so 21st June should go ahead. I've not suggested that it shouldn't.

I actually just asked why the 21st June seemed to be being painted as some kind of 'D-day' after which everything would fall apart compared with any other time over the last 16 months

Exactly this.

And if it truly was data not dates then they would publish their actual measures

But by not publishing them it means that they can say what they like!

Israel don't allow free travel ,they can't be compared to the UK .

You are clearly just arguing for the sake of it now.

21st of June was coined "freedom day" by the press. It was the earliest possible date that businesses that are already absolutely screwed could open. That date is now potentially being pushed back so yes it is some kind of d-day as that hope has been taken away!!! If not 21st June then when?!?!? These businesses can't keep trading on hope.

The media re just as irresponsible as our government..
Thats why so many people had it in their head as it was going to happen.
