Sorry if I’m being naive but what are people mostly getting stressed about? Things are pretty much back to normal for me. Sounds like weddings are going to be allowed more than 30 still. Is it travel? Or are your businesses still suffering?
Talk about I'm alright Jack 🙄

My life personally, is fairly normal. Bar wearing a mask in every shop, not being able to pop to a pub because you have to book weeks in advance, no impromptu dinners out because again you have to book, can't have more than 4 guests round if my husband is in, but if i kick him out I can have an extra friend round, but if I don't want them in the house i can have 30 of then in the garden...

I can't go on holiday, I can't see my GP, my friends wedding was limited to 30 guests after it was postponed for a year.

Every other desk in my office has a do not use sticker and fans are off limits (as are coat racks, who knew you could catch covid from hanging your coat up)

I have my temperature taken when I walk in a shop, I have to sanitise my hands when I walk in anywhere and scan a code so the government know where I have been just in case someone walks in 4 hours later who gets positive even if they have no symptoms and might not even be able to to spread it

But no things are great 🙃

I was genuinely wondering what people were upset about.

Sounds like things are different where you live. I popped to the pub yesterday without booking and got a table. We also don’t get our temperatures checked in shops.

I can do everything that I missed in lockdown friends weddings are back on, my godsons christening is going ahead, can see my baby neice in London. Friends can have garden parties. I’ve worked through out. My partner lost his job but has a new one which is load better and his business has picked up again. I’m just a bit confused what it is that people are missing?

You are supposed to do those things wearing a mask and keeping a distance. You can't stand and eat at a gathering. A lot of people haven't been able to work. My husband has and has actually thrived this year, but I care about Jimbo down the road too and he was furloughed and is losing his home. You need to check in and track/trace. I can't see my GP, I can't even get a phone consultation.

If that is what you want for normal then fair enough. But not for me, no thank you.

Like I say my life is pretty normal.

But millions of business owners and the people who work for said businesses will be absolutely screwed by this delay

Yeah I understand that and it’s awful for club owners and people in the travel industries still. I just find occasionally wearing a mask and booking for dinner not the end of the world. I was wondering what it was that was making people so mad on here

I’d like to be able to pop into a shop without having to wear a piece of cloth over half my face. Or not have judgemental stares if I happen to forget my mask one day.

Not having to book 8 weeks in advance for a day out or meal in a pub.

To be able to organise a birthday party for my kids at what ever venue they want with as many of their friends as they want to invite.

Id like to be able to meet up with as many people as I feel like without worrying about the ‘rule of 6’.

To be able to travel abroad without worrying about quarantine, negative tests and all that crap.

Track and Trace say no more, utterly pointless. Businesses don’t seem to care if you scan yourself into places anymore and I can’t say I blame them.

I went away for 2 nights during half term, took the kids to a theme park. Yes it was great to do something normal again but we still had to fanny around with masks, distancing, sanitiser. I just want to not have to worry about all that anymore. I’m sure most of us have plenty in our every day lives to worry about as it is.

It honestly baffles me that people think we’re more or less back to normal and can’t understand why people are concerned. Talk about brainwashed! I really hope this doesn’t start happening more and more.. we will lose sight of what real freedom is. 😞
It’s to make sure people aren’t going to die unnecessarily their not brainwashed they’ve seen the damage the virus can do.

We are getting there though.....I don’t think it makes people brainwashed to think things are improving, restrictions wise?
Nobody is disputing the damage lockdown has done in so many ways but let’s not lose sight of the fact that without lockdowns so many more people would have died from Covid.
It’s a worldwide pandemic, Boris didn’t make it up just to ground us all!
He made the mistake of opening up too soon last time and people criticised him when cases and deaths rose again.

No one wants to see that happen again.

I think it depends what industry you work in. For example my husband and lot of my friends all work for airlines/travel. They are all still on furlough and anxiously waiting to see if they will still have jobs after the restrictions end. Pubs/restaurants still can’t run full capacity and some are making a loss. Theatre/arts etc all still affected.

Couldn’t agree more. I know things are better now than a few months ago but it worries me that people are happy to live with so many caveats on what we can do and it’s as if you don’t know how lucky you are that we can leave our houses now. I say that slightly flippantly, I know things could be far far worse but theres absolutely nothing wrong with longing for the carefree lives we lived before in comparison. I don’t want to wear a mask to walk around the shops or go to the loo in a restaurant, I hate one way systems (yea no big deal but I said it I hate them) I hate not just being able to do something spontaneously, I miss the days where I could just do things without thinking about it. Nothing wrong with feeling that way!

Sorry if you disagree but I’d prefer these inconveniences forever than for people to go through what our family went through watching our dad on a ventilator for 8 weeks.

Its not just club owners and travel there are millions of jobs affected.

Gigs you have the sound and lighting engineers, as well as ticket staff and bar staff and security.

As someone mentioned earlier with aviation you have the booklets on planes that impacts printers. Then you have the people who clean the planes between flights and the food manufacturers.

Theatres are running at reduced seats if they are open at all..many can't afford to put on a production unless it is fully booked

It is a much bigger picture

I don't claim any great insight but I would be very surprised if Boris' announcement is simply that the date has been put back a month (19th July?). I think he's bound to make some provision for weddings and maybe one or two other event type things but continue with WFH, masks in shops etc.

Sunak is apparently already saying that furlough won't be extended so pressure is coming on employers through having to make greater contributions to furlough pay and they'll have to decide whether to bring people back or not (unfortunately I suspect in many cases it will be 'not').

As I say I could be completely wrong

No totally, I’m not saying people are brainwashed for abiding by the rules - I mean they’ve lost sight of what life was like in 2019 if they truly can’t understand why people are frustrated at the restrictions. This whole “what’s the big deal guys we’re basically back to normal” is worrying. We are FAR from back to normal. Yes fair enough if the restrictions have to last but don’t come on here basically belittling people for being upset.

Yeah I totally understand these industries are suffering. I was genuinely asking what it was making everyone so passionate on here. The majority just seam annoyed to have to book a meal in advance and wear a mask which is nuts in my opinion.
