Muslims weren’t able to celebrate Eid or spend the month of Ramadan with family this year. The government released several posters saying “Eid is at home this year”. They announced further restrictions two hours before Eid Ul Fitr. They even had police at mosques making sure there were no prayers going ahead. We just sucked it up and celebrated alone.

If they’re going to allow us to mix households over Christmas then they should extend that courtesy to the Muslim, Jewish and Hindu communities who had to forgo their religious celebrations this year.

And anyone who wants to come tell me this is a “Christian” country can fuck right off

Ugh I can’t stand their blaming messages. It’s not like we can opt in or out for these 5 days!

Your right about Eid, we are in an area where it was literally announced hours before, couldn’t believe it, felt so sorry for friends and colleagues. There would be uproar if they announced on Christmas Eve that Christmas Day was cancelled

And dont forget Boris had Rishi draft him up a "Happy Diwali but stay home so we can have our Christmas in 4 weeks!!" message the other day! I found it so unbelievable cheeky of them.

cant see boxing day sales happening - i work in merchandising in a large clothing store and i was given plans in october that the company wasnt participating in black friday to put off hoards of crowds and were instead doing a month of deals in november which is obv only happening online now
It’ll be like the ‘old days’ pre Boxing Day sales

While further restrictions are being put forward tomorrow for NI our local theatre has just announced it’s to open next week. The health minister said today all of the 4 nations were working on a plan together for over the Christmas period..I’m wondering are we being treated to a pantomime besides the Gov one 😂

I do actually think the cabinet should do a pantomime on national television on Christmas Eve. With a musical number. As an apology for this year.

Unfortunately because Christmas is not only a Christian but also a societal tradition (schools are off/ businesses usually profit massively this time of year) in the UK, I’m not surprised restrictions may be lifted for it and not for other religious holidays. They’ll want the huge economic benefit from letting people spend money too which doesn’t happen to the same extent for Diwali or Eid.

Plus the media seem to have an obsession with Christmas. As people have said before, I’d rather people be around for future Christmases than get some crap socially distanced thing. Dread to think what January is going to be like too

i just cant see NE shops reopening - especially since most of them are operating on click and collect - big supermarkets/b&m sell gifts/toys
