I just had a sponsored advert for Hiding Him on Facebook, so I dread to think how much Adam has spent on it

The ad he put out for a marketing person mentioned that he had a healthy budget for marketing.

Obviously not selling then

I wonder if he got someone and has sent another 6K down a hole or if he never hired anyone and he's the one now running the ads. Or if he went for option C Fiverr

Oddly he has removed the hiding him photoshoot headshot as his insta pic

I think abandoning the book publicity and going on hiatus mirrors his Disney trips. He is brimming with enthusiasm and emotion on travel day but looks bored and tired as the trip goes on. The vlogs get shorter as the trip goes on and he doesn't film going home. The book seems similar. He was all gung-ho announcing it, putting out vlogs about it, taking pics in the factory, organising a book launch but then....he wilted. It's like he gets a dopamine rush from spending money and planning things but then the actual reality once he's on the trip or once the book is launched is a let down. He left the Disney CRP program early, similar I should think. Headed out there full of excitement, exaggerated like he was going out to run the place, the reality sucked so he bailed and came home.

I think this loops back into his entitlement and the fact that he's spoiled (I constantly have to remind myself he's not actually an only child!), it sort of reminds me of when he did D23.

Started off really buzzing then within 4 hours hated it because the seas didn't part when he arrived and he had to queue for hours like everyone else.

(And he thought he had anxiety when really he was just annoyed he wasn't getting his own way)

What did he think was going to happen? He'd release the book, be instantly considered a distinguished man of letters and be told he needs to clear space on the mantle for his Booker Prize?

Even well-written YA often has a grind until it becomes a hit. The two queer YA books that have had minor splashes in the last five years or so (They Both Die at the End and Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe) both kind of built organically. They Both Die...was published in 2017, but it didn't really blow up until TikTok discovered it at the beginning of the pandemic, three years later. It's also well-written, unique, and heartfelt, which Hiding Him is....not.

I am just about certain that on his patreon or whatever, people are telling him that those that have written the one / two star reviews on Amazon are haters and are just jealous of his talent and are obviously sad people with no lives. 🙄. Whereas in fact he would have benefitted more from that kind of honest and constructive feedback than from Gary telling him how fab the book is when it was read out to him!
