Actually Honest - skincare and makeup reviews #4

Does anyone have the Dyson air wrap and if so would you recommend it?

My partner has offered to get it for me for Christmas, but I'm in two minds. I currently have waist length straight hair (needs a trim so it'll be more bra strap length by Christmas)
At the moment I rarely curl it because it takes so long to do, so I'm wondering if the air wrap really would cut down on time?

I'm quite curious about the smoothing attachment for flyaway etc. I think I'd use this more.

However I'm wondering about how often I'd actual use the curling attachments and I'm just better off getting the air straightener instead which I really like the look of as I straighten my hair most days anyway and my Cloud 9's aren't the best.

Any recommendations anyone?

I don’t think the air wrap is great for long-long hair, it doesn’t seem to hold the curls on anything medium to long. Full disclosure I’ve never used one myself but I know a few people who’ve bought one and they’ve been disappointed and they say similar to reviews I’ve seen, it looks nice initially but then drops out quickly. From what I’ve seen, it’s quite difficult to keep the hair looking sleek when curling? The air seems to disturb all the shorter hairs making it look like there’s lots of flyaways.

It’s not great for long hair and I don’t think it would save you any time. The “curls” don’t hold well either.
Tbh the barrels give more of a salon blow dry look (Think Catherine Princess of Wales) rather than proper curls.
The brush attachments aren’t bad and I think they do dry my hair quicker and easier but I could’ve bought a lot cheaper item just for that.
Do I like it? Yes.
Do I think it’s vastly overpriced? Also, yes.
If it broke tomorrow (please don’t! 🤞) would I repurchase? Probably not. I’d go for something much cheaper.
HTH.

I love it, however I mainly use the brush attachments as my hair doesn’t hold a curl no matter what I use as it’s poker straight. I’ve got the hairdryer and the coralle straightners too and I reach for the airwrap the most x

Anyone tried the Jones Road miracle balms?

Does anyone have any advice on a good starter make up brand for a 13yr old ?
My niece has asked me for makeup for Xmas & although I wear make up sometimes I feel like I’ve no clue what I’m doing 😂
I just want to be able to start her with some nice lip gloss, mascara etc.

I have a lot of make up mostly mid-high end and some good budget items.
The best budget eye palettes I’ve used are from MUA at Superdrug. I’ve only tried the 5 shadow palettes so I can’t vouch for the large palettes but the 5 pans are great. I adore my Natasha Denona palettes but when I travel I always take my MUA ones. They have great pigment for the price. They’re £3.75 but often on offer. I bought 2 a few weeks ago for £3 each. I can’t advise on their other products because I’ve not tried them.
Real Techniques do some lovely, good value brushes and are available in Boots, Amazon, Superdrug etc.
HTH.

I have similar length hair to you and I was also going to get one last Xmas. My friend let me borrow hers to see how I got on with it. I liked the actual using of it, it’s very simple and it looked amazing when I was done - volume and bouncy curls…..and within half an hour it had dropped massively and within an hour you wouldn’t have known I’d done anything. Tried it again a few days later and same issue. I’ve seen amazing results on short to mid length hair but I wouldn’t spend the money on it for long hair. I have better results with heartless curls.

new to the thread so apologies if this comes up a lot (i’m not caught up) i’m looking for a body moisturiser that will try and get rid of the pigmentation / small bumps on the top of my arms? i’m currently using garnier super food and it is really good but i’m just after something more for that area, any recommendations?

As it happens, I'd have recommended what you're already using. It works really well. I'll admit I struggle to keep up with it as I loathe the feeling of clothes on newly moisturised skin and sadly I can't find the time to float about in my pants whilst it sinks in.

Omg I absolutely second the MUA palettes, I have stockpiled about 5 of my favourite because if it is ever discontinued I will be devastated. Such great pigment, some really gorgeous shimmer shades and you can create some great looks with the 5 shade palette. Never mind the 13 year old, go get some for yourself 😂

I would recommend lactic acid (I use The ordinary) and cerave sa smoothing cream. Lactic acid dries quicker. I've heard great things about the Inkylist glycolic stick too and they have a black Friday sale so think I'll give it a go.

Dove Pro Age lotion with AHA. I’ve found it really good for that.

The Ameliorate cream is supposed to be good for bumpy arms

Morning I’m new to the thread but can we discuss Charlotte tilbury magic cream please?
I just bought the beautiful skin foundation and it is amazing. I am thinking magic cream but would like to hear what real live people say before I slide off down a hype train track and spend all my non existent cash on CT products x

Not worth the money to be honest. The water cream is nicer than the OG too

I use the Revolution dupe -under £10

I was gifted CT magic cream and it brought me out in tiny spots under my skin so gave it away but this one is so much better imo.

I’ve used the ameliorate cream as well. They say to use it religiously twice a day for 30 days for the best initial results. It made a bit of difference on my legs but not loads, it might have continued working if I’d carried on with it but I got lazy. It does sink in quickly which is nice!

I use pimple patches occasionally but the lady who does my facials was telling me the other day how terrible they are for your skin, they trap the bacteria in apparently. I’ve seen some people say they don’t work miracles but they do stop you picking at them, which I suppose makes sense.
