2024 US Election #3

I’m willing to bet that he doesn’t apply the same logic to god.

And also, if the handwashing thing is true, that’s just gross 🤮
Of course it’s not true. He made a 2-second joke 5 years ago that’s now been unearthed so that people can pick it to shreds in the usual nonsensical feeding frenzy.

Here’s another piece of info about him that’ll blow your socks off: he fought in Afghanistan and Iraq, and doesn’t think women should be in combat. The horror! The sexist misogynist beast! Go at it!

True you can't run government departments like a business, but you can use cost saving techniques from there. I'm very interested to see how this pans out. So many gov departments are terribly inefficient.
It’s a really interesting new approach to try to cut back government spending, get rid of unnecessary waste and save the taxpayer money. I love the idea of putting businesspeople in charge of this. Some might call it “progressive” - but not, apparently, progressives.

Ah, apologies, like I said, if it’s true. I suppose I took it at face value as it appeared to be a Fox News story about their own host. 🤷🏼‍♀️

As I said, no issue with cutting away the fat in some areas, but surely in such an important and massive thing as government, it will take a long time to complete due appropriate diligence?

I agree. But at least it’s an attempt.

He's certainly an interesting choice for the role. I would be worried if I was a woman or poc in a senior military position given he has already questioned whether the joint chiefs chairman was a DEI hire.

Hmmm 🥴
You can’t have people in charge of governments who know nothing about the history of the country that they are supposed to be serving. That’s why you have career politicians.

Trump’s presidency is an exercise in making himself feel powerful. It’s naive to suppose that he and Musk are concerned with saving taxpayers money imo.

Pleased to see that Biden is able to demonstrate that no matter how he personally feels about Trump, he is bound to and has a responsibility to support and enable democratic process. Unlike the MAGA movement.

It’ll probably reduce Democrats to apoplexies of rage but I’m calling it now. The first female president of the United States will be a Republican..

Trump doesn’t need to FEEL powerful. He IS powerful. Come January 20th 2025 probably the most powerful man in the world. Appointing his allies and people who share his vision to key posts in the administration is pretty standard practice for presidents of all colours. Who were you expecting? AOC?

Yes that makes sense. But really, can you imagine a party that has become even more anti women would ever serve under one? If the Republican Party remains hijacked by MAGA I don’t see it happening at all. America isn’t showing any signs of being ready for a female president. A lot of Republican women were very upset by the overturning of Roe vs Wade but appeared to have forgotten about it by voting time.

We're perfectly ready for a female president.

Kamala wasn't very good and she represented a vote for the status quo.

Abortions just isn't the highest priority for anyone and they were foolish to base it all on the one issue. It was weird telling women to think about the potential abortions their daughters might want.

I hope we have a female president, but one that gets there on merit rather than being because of her gender and being the less worse option.

Where is the evidence that the democrats based their campaign on abortion alone though ? It’s true that I’ve heard some Americans saying that Harris didn’t convince them that she would be good for the economy. But on the other hand, I’ve heard other Americans say that Biden fixed some of the problems the Trump administration caused. Since I don’t live in America, I’m not sure.

In regards to abortion, it’s not an insignificant issue to lose reproductive rights. Especially in a country which tends to believe (whether republican or democrat) that people should not expect any help from the state to raise a child.

I may be wrong, but I believe the reason the US isn’t ready for a female president is partly because young men there are giving push-back to suggestions that they should lose their foothold in the patriarchy and also some minority groups in the US like Hispanic Americans are still patriarchal in their outlook.

I think you missed my point. Which is that Trump has zero capacity to do anything for the greater good. It’s all about him. Biden has the opposite approach - he respects democratic process no matter how he feels personally.

I also disagree that Trump will be the most powerful man in the world. Presidents of the US don’t have as much power as you might assume. Although his party has a big mandate for sure, this time. And I think America is going into decline as a world power due to the MAGA movement taking over the Republican Party. I think there will be a lot of in fighting and failure to understand how to handle foreign policy. With nobody to moderate anything.

How do you know that his Presidency is an exercise in making himself feel powerful? Can you see inside his head?

He doesn’t need to do this. He already IS powerful and has been his entire life. He’s already been President once, has spent 8 years being loathed by the media and the establishment who’ve successfully whipped up half the country against him, was prosecuted by his political enemies for years at massive personal expense and has survived two assassination attempts, once coming within a centimetre of getting his head blown off. I’m not saying the man’s not got an enormous ego but you have to allow for the fact that at 82 there might be other reasons for him going through all this?

And yes it was great to see Biden cheerfully grinning away next to Trump. One day you’re calling your rival a fascist and a threat to democracy and the next, happily welcoming him to the White House - almost as if you never really believed he was a fascist and a threat to democracy in the first place!

He had no choice. Biden realises that no one president is bigger than the democratic process. Trump lost fairly last time and incited an insurrection. He won fairly, this time. That’s what democracy is - the people get what they vote for. For good or bad….

Why do Trump supporters always paint him like he’s some kind of victim? He constantly lies. The main problem with him is that he is a fantasist who lives in a world of magical thinking . Black becomes white. Up becomes down and so on. Covid was ‘going away’ 6 weeks after it started.

The supporters are the same, now. And that’s where we get into dangerous 1984 doublethink territory. I don’t know why people are theorising about what he will do in America, now as though it’s some kind of revolutionary new government. It will be the same as it was last time but worse, probably since he’s surrounded by MAGA people.

Didn’t he run all of his businesses into the ground? He just happened to inherit his father’s fortunes.
