Your tips on how to look more Groomed, Glamorous or Polished #13

I have to make a secret Santa wish list and I’m looking for some recommendations of what I should put on there in a skincare /makeup / haircare. Budget is £80 so I’d like to ask for things I wouldn’t normally spend on myself. What’s on your wish list? xx

Oooh maybe some luxe skincare. I’d get the tatcha dewy cream or maybe one of the sets. Medi8 retinal is the best and I think they have some sets too. Maybe some nice makeup brushes. I got a set from spectrum, they were the KJH brushes and they’re such good quality.
Not really beauty but I love a really luxe candle for christmas like diptyque or Jo Malone. Kind of thing you’d never want to spend your own money on but they’re class.

Wanting to up my makeup routine… I say routine, I don’t really have one! 😂 in photos from a recent day out I look like a deceased mole! 😂 I’m olive skinned (so the deceased part of my current look is really telling! 😂) Can anyone recommend some easy to follow makeup YT videos/people to follow on Insta! I’m also 37, so nothing young and hip! Basic, minimal, but makes me look alive! 😬

I'm also olive-skinned, but have light skin - I know exactly what you mean. The olive undertone can give you a sickly look especially during winter, it seems to come out stronger then. I've recently discovered a Youtuber called Alexandra Anele who has olive skin and - like me - dark undereye circles and found her videos good. She has some looks that are way beyond what I would wear or even could do, but also pretty standard "I'm alive" looks.

Sam Chapman is my fave on instagram, worth a look if you don't already follow her.

Is it a good idea to get mini/travel size makeup products or is it a waste?

It depends, as @MinnnieMouse says travel sizes always be more expensive pound for pound but I’d rather spend a tenner on a travel size of something new to check whether it works for me before buying full size than waste £40 on something that then doesn’t work for me. I have a travel size of everything (shampoo, conditioner, body wash etc) for the gym that I then refill using much larger sizes. Other things, like mascara I might buy a travel size of as I have never finished a tube before it clumps. I bought a travel size bronzer and blusher 14 months ago and I’m still using them every day - I can’t even see the bottom of the container yet. Full size would last me forever.

How do I slim down calves/upper ankles? I can’t wear boots and socks like this because my lower legs seem to bulge out either side 🙈 I’m not overweight but probably don’t drink as much water as I could be. Would a body lymphatic tool help?

Is it fat, muscle or water giving the bulk do you think? Lymphatic drainage helps a bit but it's temporary and don't expect miracles. You can't spot reduce fat so you'd need to lose fat in general and hope it goes from your calves. If it's muscle then go on bed rest for like 6-12 months or break both legs (joking obviously 😅). But unfortunately calf size is largely set and it's really hard to change it to get bigger or smaller.

I’ve just bought this dress for a party. It looks stunning but as it’s quite oversized in the way it’s cut, I think I need some shapewear for my stomach. I’m also undecided over footwear. I have a pair of very chunky leather lace up boots or some knee high suede ones. Any ideas on shapewear and shoes? I don’t want to buy a pair of heels as I never wear them.

That’s what I’m thinking, I actually think travel size makeup products would last me forever, especially powder products. Whereas skincare products I should buy the full size since I know I’ll use it up

Knee high boots will stop your legs getting cut off, assuming the chunky boots are ankle boots? You could get an all in one type bodysuit for under this. Super easy as it won’t be rolling down and will be fully covered.

Something like this https://www.next.ie/en/style/st0780...3qdgCsEAQYASABEgKEAPD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds#126721

You can get ones that include the bra or if you’re looking for more support you can wear your own and have the ones that start under bust.

Has anyone tried the Kiehls avocado eye cream? I’m thinking to buy it but it’s quite expensive so I want to hear some honest opinions before I spend any money

Thanks, I hadn’t considered that about the boots but it’s a good point. The chunky ones are calf length.

Following on from my makeup routine post… how on earth do you colour match Foundation/tints/concealer - even brow products? 😬 Looking at L’Oréal True Match potentially, as they offer quite a range!? ☺️

I hope this is the right place for this question. But as someone who is not remotely glamorous, I’m going to a wedding where the dress code is “cocktail dresses”. When I google cocktail dress it throws up what I would say are standard wedding guest dresses, or am I missing something. Or should I be rocking up to this wedding like some sort of Bond girl I’ve no idea
