You - Netflix

I’ve enjoyed it so far. I’m glad they went in the different direction of Joe being stalked, and the murder mystery type set-up. It’s all very silly and far-fetched but it always has been.

I also like the use of music - Vampire Weekend and Yeah Yeah Yeahs were good to hear.

I find Kate a bit of an odd one. I think they’ve gone for the Kate Middleton / Mary Downton Abbey vibe with her but it’s not quite right. She isn’t at all seductive or sexy and I don’t think Joe would be that enticed by her. She’s also completely horrible all the time. Her make up is also strange - heavy blobs of black eye shadow and brown pencilled in brows. I’m just not convinced by her as a character. Maybe I can’t see past her being in Ghosts!?

Thought about the whole thing some more:

Part of what makes the whole thing kind of weird is the existence of Nadia. Her function is essentially that of a Greek choir that has to explain the story - namely that now Joe is being stalked and needs to solve a murder mystery - to the viewers. It shouldn't be necessary, yet here we are. So unless there's a much deeper function in Nadia's character, she was essentially brought in to explain a story that doesn't flow very well on its own or that left people to question what they were actually watching. As in, they were watching a story of a stalker before, who was breaking the third wall by explaining his thoughts to the viewer. That's what carried large parts of the earlier seasons, it is what made it creepy and slightly triggering, but also what kept you watching. Now we need Nadia to explain the story to Joe, which doesn't make that much sense.

Ah yes, you've put it more eloquently than I tried to in an earlier post. It was more creepy when he was doing the stalking and made the previous seasons better. I didn't really put it together about Nadia being the storyteller but it's obvious now you've said it! It just didn't have what the earlier seasons did and yesss I'm talking more than sex scenes 😂

I do find Joe the most hot he's been in this one though. The hair and beard really work for me 🙈

Totally agree about nadia, the dialogue between them seemed so unnatural too

It was so unnatural at one point I suspected her purely cause I didn't get why she was "there" if you get what I mean. Started to doubt myself that it was who it was cause Nadia stuck out like a sore thumb.

Maybe she'll have something more in the 2nd half.

Yes, this is exactly what I meant! There's no reason why she is featured in this manner, the interaction between Joe and Nadia doesn't need to happen in order to move the story on - but it happens still, as the story otherwise wouldn't move at all. Nadia explains what Joe is supposed to do as otherwise he wouldn't do anything. And that whole GenZ speech everytime they interact....

God yeah the whole GenZ speeches I'd blocked them out!

  • Haha
Reactions: emm
I suspected Nadia too just because I thought she was quite shoe horned in otherwise.

I don't mind the idea of Joe being the stalkee rather than the stalker. Or that he has a 'nemesis' .... its just not been executed very well.
It's less You and more a slapstick murder mystery play.

Can someone please explain to me the killer's motivations? I must not have been paying attention and I can't be bothered to watch the last episode again.

I like the switch of angle this series, more of Joe being the victim (I know he always thinks he is, but to actually be the stalkee for once) makes it a little different. I'm so disappointed with Kate - I don't think she's as awful as everyone is saying, but I think Charlotte Richie is a really talented and funny actress, so it's a shame to see so many disliking her character as I think she's better than that.

This series has really pumped up the cringe though! Not sure if it's because it's in London, so we're having to put up with all the exaggerated accents, or if it's because we expect Americans to be super cheesy and it just doesn't sit well being focused in England.

I don't think they left it on much of a "cliffhanger" - I was expecting them to chop it after Kate finds Gemma's body or maybe when Joe and Roald were left in the dungeon thing in the fire.

I've just Googled Charlotte Ritchie, she's 33?!?! She looks about 45 in You.

I'm the same age and was actually quite surprised - I thought she was older from her haircut and make-up in You. She looks very different in real ife (sure, she's an actress, she's supposed to be able to look different, but ykwim).
I think the problem with the Kate character is that the Ice Queen is overdone. It wold work better if it wasn't in every sentence that we get from Kate an then of course get Ice Queen Melts Long enough for sex.
