West End Gossip #3

There were affordable tickets but it's a bit late to expect those options to still be available now. I noticed a couple of £72.50 tickets but it's not much better price wise I know.

Yeah, giving the timing it's to be expected to a point but the prices in general are vile.

Ironic considering this particular show and the message, and the charity collecting at the end!

Will see it at some point, I see most things at the Criterion eventually.

Hopefully on a night that Rob Houchen is off, I can live without seeing him yet again.

It does look cheap and tacky but it's supposed to isn't it?

Oh yeah I think its deliberate for sure.

But I just don't want to see a movie and singer I like, like that. Especially when the jokes look too try hard. Especially at full west end prices

It seems to have been on all over the world already before showing up in London. Gives me Choir Of Man vibes in that that has had so many productions going on everywhere, including the semi permanent cruise ship one. I guess it must be dead easy to stage. It has to be in order to be at the Criterion, no fly tower above the stage and no directly stage-side wing space, at all!

Has anyone seen/booked to see Titanique at the Criterion. Have seen some reels and it doesn’t look great.
Seeing it later today, heard great things about the NYC production but never got around to seeing it there yet, haven’t got great expectations but also managed to get a last-minute ticket for Great Comet at the Donmar so hoping at least one of them is decent.

Has anyone seen MJ The Musical? I see there is a new MJ starting in January
I saw it in October. We were lucky, as it was one of Myles’ rare appearances. I went in with little to no expectations, as it’s been absolutely ripped apart here and was very pleasantly surprised. There were a few moments I kept forgetting that was not actually Michael dancing (and I mean dancing) in front of me.

It’s great for a night out. Would I see it again? Nah. Could the story have been shortened and a little more consistent? Likely, but I understand why they did what they did.

I will say - my husband and I both agree, the way they set up/justified Thriller is probably the most clever bit of the entire show.

We saw it in September and also lucky to see Myles, although I had never heard of him before. I had no idea he rarely made an appearance, bit strange for a West End lead?!

We thoroughly enjoyed it and I agree about the Thriller segment.

We are going again early next year and it will now be the new MJ we will see. Surprised they didnt promote the alternate to full time

Myles has had a terrible attendance record, partly due to injury, but mostly for unknown reasons (aka Olly Dobson style). It is a bit strange, isn’t it? He was specifically brought over to reprise the role, and as he’d won the Tony, they were relying on him.

Wow! Thats incredible! Unfair on the rest of the cast but good for the understudies 🤔 Makes you wonder if they all get along 🤔

I wondered the same thing re all getting along.

I saw a post somewhere that a woman had been to see the show around 12 times in about 6 weeks and Myles was on maybe 4 or 5 of those times.

That’s horrendous and extremely bad luck! Well he doesnt have long left now and surely will see out his time 😬

Not West End but I'm obsessed with the uber-flop of Tammy Faye on Broadway. What went wrong?? Such a fun show at the Almeida.

The Rupert Goold letter is insane, though.
I wondered the same although Broadway is much more brutal around pulling the plug than the WE. I was desperate for a ticket here in London and couldn’t get one for love or money

Wonder if that’s it for the show or whether it will come back to London, as I believe that was the plan after the Broadway run

Ended up enjoying Titanique last night more than I thought I would, it started off quite slow and cringe but I warmed to it eventually. Layton Williams and Stephen Guarino were the standouts for me among the cast and it is good if you want something silly and camp. Ushers had to tell a girl sitting further down the row to shut up as she kept singing along to the Celine songs, she didn't have a bad voice to be fair but I can't stand people singing unless it's specifically a singalong performance or the encore if encouraged (hence why I have no plans to watch the Steps musical even though they are a guilty pleasure).
