Is that because you don't think the people involved are reaching the sort of standards you were used to and that annoys you as a professional, or is it that with it having been your job, it all seems too everyday and humdrum to enjoy as a show?
It’s more that I don’t really get the entertainment value of watching people ‘do’ catering under pressure. Working in kitchens is massively stressful, it can be dangerous and it’s actually a career that’s known for terrible conditions, and huge rates of poor mental health (especially stuff like substance and alcohol abuse). To turn it into a game show concept just seems really tacky to me - I could never watch it for entertainment as watching people ‘perform’ in kitchens is too much like what I’ve had to do to earn money. To me it’s a bit tasteless.

Go sober for October / dry January. I don't get why you're asking people for money because you're giving up alcohol for a month. Sounds to me you have a drinking problem.

Oh god yes. This with bells on! I can easily and regularly do go without alcohol for weeks on end. If you need to ‘go sober’ for a month to make a point then you have a problem and would be better of looking for an AA meeting and stopping altogether.

A huge percentage of people in the U.K. have an alcohol dependency and we normalise drinking too much with ‘Wine O’Clock’ and so on. It’s the reason alcohol was still considered ‘essential’ during lockdown when you couldn’t even buy books, magazines or even children’s clothes. The NHS couldn’t have coped with loads of fitting people in alcohol withdraw on top of everything else.

Gender pronouns only come into play if you're speaking of someone in the third person: eg, 'he/his,' 'she/hers.' Are you thinking of gender-based prefixes - Mr, Miss, Ms - too?

Its more and more common now to see "(she/her)" in an email signature in work places, to encourage others to feel able to say what pronouns they would like to be known as.

All a load of performative bullshit imo.

I don't think they've sorted out what the pronoun is for someone who identifies as intersex or genter-neutral have they? Such cases are rather rare, though probably likely to become more common in future.

It's impossible to identify as intersex - it is a medical term relating to a person's biological sex, it has nothing to do with gender.

People have been deliberately muddying the waters around it for the past few years, despite many intersex people saying 'please do not use us as props.' So a lot of people hear intersex and think 'non binary', which makes it more difficult to raise actual issues that intersex people face, such as 'genital correction surgery' on newborns who can't consent.

For me it's getting rid of historical statues such as those to do with war, racism etc .we can't change the past we can only learn from it and having a visual reminder is better than hiding them away in the pages of a history book ,people are more inclined to ask who they were or what they represented if they're there in from of them .We have a lot of visual reminders where I live and I think it's great to let younger generations know that life is not always a bed of roses and to keep moving forward .

Ohh great thread!

Fireworks shouldn’t be on sale to the general public. They are so dangerous, in my area we have them going off randomly all year round, during the day and in the middle of the night and they are massive really loud ones. At this time of year they get thrown at cars, busses, people and animals and even emergency services. Some kids last weekend were in the local park throwing them at others. Apparently I am a killjoy though .

Both I wouldn’t do either! In my industry we address each other by first name, or both names if taking about someone!

I’ve got another one 😂 alcohol should be banned for sale on trains - both for consumption and sales to stop bad behaviour. But it won’t because it helps subs the industry.

Anything in rows 3 and 4 should not be classed as tea, and to be honest, I'm dubious about 2D as well ..... ☕

I hate autumn and winter. Any day that isn't hot and sunny is a waste of time

I hate salted caramel

Fireworks should be banned in the UK as they are in Ireland. I'm from a culture where fireworks are important and often used in festivals etc but that's not so in the UK and I think the safety of those affected (older people, animals, people with sensory issues etc) is more important than "fun"

There should be no mandatory limit for a marriage to last before the couple can get divorced. It traps people in abusive relationships and treats adults like children who can't make rational decisions and "we need to give them time to cool off!" It is also used as a form of social engineering to keep couples together because "divorce is bad for society" If you're worried about people exploiting the system, impose a time limit before a divorced person can get married again.

We do not need "quiet coaches" on trains. If you are ill, you should probably not be on a train - especially not long distance. If you have children with you, they can be difficult to keep quiet so should not be in a "quiet coach." If you need to sleep or work, you can use earmuffs. (For an important business meeting your company should probably pay for a first class ticket, there's not much room to work in an overcrowded carriage.) It's just an excuse for people to feel smug and complain about others using a mobile. With an increase in remote working we have no real excuse

I’ll disagree with you here. Bonfire Night is culturally significant and important in England (at least) and has been celebrated for a long time. It’s not a random event.

A boy in my year at school was blinded in one eye when messing about with fireworks and one went off in his face. We have some of the strictest fire arms laws in the world, but anyone can walk into a shop and buy fireworks here. It really doesn’t make sense when you think about it. I’d like to see them kept to organised displays. Let’s face it back garden fireworks are tit anyway 😂
