I strongly dislike the musical stylings of John Denver. Always have. (A piece of one of his stupid songs is played in a current commercial, so I’ve recently been re-exposed. Ugh.)

Never in my life did I think I would read the words "musical stylings" and "John Denver" in the same sentence. I have heard cows bellowing in the field with more ... style. Annabelle's Song? 🤣

How can Britain be a civilised society when it's acceptable for people to live out on the streets? It's not the 1400s. Can never get my head around this whenever I think of it.
Free housing for all of those people out there having to endure that.
There are factors as to why some people are homeless though. Some people choose the lifestyle for various reasons including addiction, they may not be allowed to continue this in their housing when offered it.

It really doesn't hold much weight nowadays, due to the housing shortage and the massive waiting lists. Having a young child doesn't bump you up the list like it used to.

That OP was a wild opinion. Essentially, council tenants must be poor & therefore shouldn't breed. Lets just ignore the many council & HA tenants who are working full time and were housed for other vulnerability or safeguarding concerns, eh.

Erm……I’m actually a council tenant but ok take what you want from my unpopular OPINION. Most council tenants work all hours. Various situations can mean that they require council housing. I didn’t refer in anyway to those who are vulnerable or need to be safeguarded. Those in need of course should be allocated housing. I did not suggest otherwise. I don’t give a tit if you are working or not working as a council tenant. Everyone has their own circumstances. My point is having the privilege of a council house but then choosing to further add a further financial burden to the state to accommodate your CHOICE to have additional children. If you have a low income then you need to have some responsibility and live within your means.

Having more children doesn’t carry much weight as you say but the focus for council now is to give more points to overcrowding, so essentially the more kids you squeeze in the more points you get. It’s effectively the same thing.

Happy to clear up any more assumptions you may wish to make!

You know not all councils are the same right? They all have different criteria they work to

Yes. Fully aware of that. I’m generalising as I don’t have time nor the inclination to analyse each councils point allocation.

My point is being missed. It was about living within your personal means. You have a two bed council flat- then have two kids max who share a room. Don’t have a third child and then push for a larger council property because you made the choice to make your existing council property overcrowded.

I get that, but its always the looking down on people thing. Our biggest issue in the uk is classism and this is just another extension of it.

I work in social housing and tbh, imo, it should be the norm and the first port of call for housing people. However, I also dont believe tenants should be allowed to buy the property and they should be encouraged, if possible, to move into their own properties at some stage
This x100. Not only do council tenants get the opportunity to buy their houses, they also get heavy discounts on the price depending on how long they’ve lived there. It’s a disgrace that the government is selling off housing stock when there is already a housing shortage and long waiting lists across the country. They are actively making the problem worse, it literally makes no sense.

Not to mention how galling it is trying to get on the housing ladder in the ‘normal way’ whilst Janet and Frank next door are buying their 3 bed council house for £50k because they’ve lived there 15 years and you’re stuck renting your ex-council house from a private landlord, ffs.

My contrasting opinion still stands.

I make no assumptions about you. I simply think its an extension of the classism and judgement the poor and working class face.

Agreed. Its not good use of housing stock. I know a couple, they previously owned two properties, ended up renting and then (with landlord agreement) went down the homeless route. Abusing the system as its easy to do (their morals are shady AF anyway).

They have a lovely council home now, despite actually being able to private rent at the least, or buy a property again. His income alone was 60k at the time. They were in a vulnerable position, but theyre not now years down the line and there are families living in poor condition temp accomodation. Its just not right.

Kids birthday parties are a waste of money.

I’m not sure if it’s because i never had one, or if it’s me being socially awkward but im yet to see a benefit of the kids birthday party. LittleRen is 5 in a few weeks and due to me being back at work after a period of absence, his birthday budget is £150 and he’s getting a bike. I’ve picked up a few FB bargains as well, and he’s going to have a really lovely birthday after a tit year of surgeries, deaths in the family and moving house. The soft play party we went to today was £250, and the Mum said to me that the party was the kids main present. Another party that we went to cost the parents £500 as they hired a hall, a bouncy castle and a disco. I DONT GET IT. Surely it can’t be the presents your kid gets from the other kids?!

also Diet Coke from a bottle tastes like backwash, and I’ll only accept it from a can.

I have no sympathy for people who constantly talk about "you shouldn't have to forgive anyone, ~anger is power and strength~" and so on. I honestly don't care what you do but I'm not going to sit there and listen to you either

Holding onto hurt and anger from the past only hurts those holding onto it. Those who hurt you don't give a tit you are still hurting and in fact, would probably love it

I have forgiven everyone and moved on. Those I have forgiven have no idea I have forgiven them as most are dead and the others I don't see. It's very healing when you finally let go.

Hate the game not the player.

Of course a family is going to buy their council house they have made their home for years at a discount if they are able and think it is their best option. Council tenants are not responsible for the lack of suitable housing for everyone else.
