Honestly there's always been stupid stuff going round in schools, the difference is kids have phones now an have access to platforms like yt or social sites an these sites hit a larger audience so more word gets out about it all an more kids will do itWith the news about that poor boy who suffered brain damage from a challenge on social media, I don't think this "groundbreaking" mess of a bill does much to stop damaging stuff like this?
God bless him and his parents I saw the GFM vid of him on FB to raise funds for his treatment and legal costs …I’m not convinced it was a prank there’s not many kids would attempt that ,they know it’s a big no, no !Honestly there's always been stupid stuff going round in schools, the difference is kids have phones now an have access to platforms like yt or social sites an these sites hit a larger audience so more word gets out about it all an more kids will do it
It's sad when kids do get hurt or in some cases killed but in reality, nothings changed from when I was a kid an we certainly didn't have phones or social sites back then, some of the stupid things we would do is hold our breath till we turned purple, or see who could keep one of those giant gobstoppers in our mouth for the longest and bringing in chillies to see who could eat the most etc, an am sure other people have similer story's about the crazy things going on at schools
Best thing has an always will be will be people supervising the grounds for primary schools an high schools, most of the time whenever we tried stupid stuff it was stopped by one of the adults seeing us
No disagreement with any of that. But the thing is the government and in particular Nadine Dorris are talking about how they're making the UK the safest country in the world to use the internet with this mess of an inadequate bill.Honestly there's always been stupid stuff going round in schools, the difference is kids have phones now an have access to platforms like yt or social sites an these sites hit a larger audience so more word gets out about it all an more kids will do it

Nadine Dorries is next to useless. Did anyone recently see her at a parliamentary committee where she confirmed she shares her Netflix login with her mum and had to be told during the meeting that you’re not supposed to do that?No disagreement with any of that. But the thing is the government and in particular Nadine Dorris are talking about how they're making the UK the safest country in the world to use the internet with this mess of an inadequate bill.
These sites have made things worse with how quickly they spread stuff, but rather than talking about sensible steps like supervision they're pretending an unworkable bill will achieve something.
I think the only people that aren't aware of this, are those in government making laws not that the opposition have done much to counter ridiculous bills that miss the wood for the trees. There's absolutely no way you are ever going be able to change the Internet or how word spreads
Exactly, they all live so strongly in their own little bubbles that they have no idea of the reality of things, they probably think that because they have a firewall up then that means nothing bad can happen, clownsI think the only people that aren't aware of this, are those in government making laws not that the opposition have done much to counter ridiculous bills that miss the wood for the trees.
This does remind me of a rather bizarre one that we had in primary school in the early 90s where we had some people come in and do a play about not playing on the railways. The only thing i remember from it is the phrase "he's lost his head and he's dead?!"If we are to protect kids then we need to go back to what it was like when I was a kid an use fear, am betting no kids today have ever been sat down an watched kids being thrown over roofs of cars with being run over because they didn't look, or watched family's being killed because they didn't check their smoke alarms
There was so many bizarre things we got in school, I'll always remember the fire brigade coming an setting a dolls house on fire to show how quickly fire can spread an we also had a day trip out to some place, it was all these "challanges" we had to do to see if we knew an at the end we got taught about it an what to actually do, was things like strangers trying to take us to their house to see puppies, sitting in a caravan then smoke come under the door, a kite being stuck on power cables, a bridge going over rail tracks but nothing to stop us from actually taking a short cut over the lines themselves, a "stray" dog approaching us (which was one of the police trained dogs) etc, obviously we were all taking around by guides an nothing truely dangerous was there nor actual strangers but it did teach us what to do in so many different circumstances, kids today don't get taught a ton of real life things anymore for fear that parents will complain its too much for them, I mean I was 4 when the fire brigade did that, wouldn't say it traumatised my mental health but it did make me know exactly what to do if there was a fire plus I knew never to mess around with anything that could cause itThis does remind me of a rather bizarre one that we had in primary school in the early 90s where we had some people come in and do a play about not playing on the railways. That's what I feel like, kids will take anything out there to stop them as a challange, there's kids that can hack better than adults who have done it for years now, kids that can code an are making their own apps an games etc, I've always felt am pretty tech savvy but even my young cousins an cousins kids are now showing me things that are taking me by surpriseIn my opinion, kids seem to be very tech savvy and these companies will always try and find ways around loopholes. My son used to always find music for free and put them on CD for me to play in the car. I have no clue as to how he did it.
They have to be seen as doing something but we all know the reality .As if Instagram supervision tools will do anything. People will just have a second account or use some other hidden app.
20+ years ago we were watching 18 movies using a portable TV, kids will always get around this stuff. These days things are so much easier.
All these schemes to give an illusion of protection do more harm than good. The answer is always education
Doesn't most things have a warning through about triggers that could cause it? I know for a fact that games all have warnings come up saying they have flashing lights that could trigger it, am not 100% sure about films an TV but I'd assume they didI understand the part of the On-line Harms Bill that the Epilepsy Society are pushing through. In a nutshell, they want it law to be a criminal offence to post flashing images that could trigger seizures or death. This section of the Bill will be called Zach's Law.
