Have just seen this on Blind Gossip sounds like its about Prince Philip.

Does Blind Gossip ever post anything actually newsworthy anymore? Anyone could have put 2+2 together and wrote this. Might have given them a touch more credit if they wrote it before it happened.

I agree, it’s such an easy thing to write after the event.

Those saying that the doctors knew he was terminal whilst in hospital, I’m wondering why on earth he had the operation then? Wouldn’t that just be a waste of time and but enormous stress on his body?

Yes I agree. I dont think any other 99 year old would have had a heart operation. You could say that's double standards in a way- treatment for the rich but not for the plebs, but maybe the reason for it is that it's too stressful on the body and a waste of time to have to spend time recovering in hospital rather than with your family

It didn't do him any good did it?

I think it's only the media saying it was an operation. My understanding is that one of his pacemaker wires became infected, so he had it replaced. I think this is more of a procedure than an actual operation, and would be necessary to get rid of the infection. :)

What would be happening within the castle now?
In the crown the kings body was embalmed at Buckingham Palace would that sort of thing still happen today. Will his family visit his body throughout until his funeral, will he have gaurds?

Not sure Big Mavis. I expect he will be embalmed even though he isn't lying in state. Perhaps some of his children and grandchildren will want to see his body. I expect he will have a guard outside his room as the Queen is old school. It must also be bringing back memories of her father and mother dying too. It's been a while since a significant royal died. I think the funeral will be next Saturday but there won't be a procession. That isn't what he wanted anyway.

But it was never said that his pacemaker was infected and I don't remember a single article saying that.
Only "pre-existing heart condition (which required the OP)" and "infection".

Yes, he will be (or rather, already is) embalmed. They'll stick with the plans as much as they can with pandemic restrictions. Considering he didn't die of Covid/was Covid free, his family should be able to visit and see his body.

They've announced it will be next Saturday with a minute silence at 3pm before. He's currently lying in a private chapel in the castle but will be taken to the west steps of St George's Chapel by a specially adapted Land Rover which he designed himself - of course 🙂. The RF will be sticking to the 30 attendees (so children and spouses, grandchildren, possibly Lady Sarah and Lord Snowden, the Gloucesters and Kents in all likelihood) but it will be televised. He didn't want fuss and he got it, thanks to the pandemic.

Andrew, Edward and Sophie have been to see QE. Harry is flying back but Meghan has been advised not to due to her pregnancy.

They are a pretty big family won't take them long to get to 30.

Yup, 24 with the four children plus spouses, eight grandchildren on their own, five Kents, two Gloucesters and two Armstrong-Jones. Possibly DssofCa as a future queen. Then you've got Lady Pamela Hicks and other Mountbatten cousins, plus the Crown Prince and Princess of Greece live in London.

I wonder if they'll go down the route of a memorial service later? He has nieces and nephews plus their children in Germany through his sisters, cousins in Spain, Denmark, Greece, Romania and Serbia. The Russian RF may want to pay respects too as his great aunt was the last Tsarina.

That would make sense,. a private one for all his family

Are Pavlos and MC in Ldn right now? They moved to NY when their older kids started uni in NY and Washington DC.
I doubt they'd attend, I think some of the older members of the Greek ex-rf are more important (personal relations-wise).

@Vanillaco asked in one of the threads, I doubt Penny'll attend either.
The family is really big with so many kids, grandkids and spouses plus some of the cousins (ie Glouc + Kent), so space is really super limited and quickly filled up with a max of 30 allowed.

BoJo is said to attend, but why? In pandemic times like these sod convention and limit it to family. Don't think the PM is that necessary to attend.

Agree. If it were my family and I was unable to attend because of people like Boris taking a space I'd be heartbroken (and probably pretty pissed off too). Doesn't seem fair.

Yup, sod BoJo. Philip actually didn't have any constitutional standing except as consort. His death doesn't affect the ship of state.

Far better to include his family. After his mother was committed, his father had abandoned the family and his sisters married, the Mountbatten uncles brought Philip up. First Lord Milford-Haven, then Lord Louis/Earl Mountbatten after his brother's death. Any surviving cousins such as Lady Pamela must have seen Philip almost as a sibling a few years older.
