The Bear - Disney+

I have to admit to being a lot more forgiving on this season, I do accept there was more style than substance though. It’s a shame the Faks were exaggerated and no sign of Francie, and I found Ice Chips very difficult to watch. But then there’s gold like Napkins, which I related to so much.

I went back and am rewatching from S1 - I had forgotten what a GIANT twit Tina was at the beginning! Richie too, obvs but his behavior was easier to recall. Anywhere else, I think she/they would have been sacked!

Tina told Syd in S1 she'd been working there since before Syd was born - Napkins receipts beg to differ, hun 😌

Too much of the Faks for me. Felt like they were really trying to push that comedy angle too hard. I REALLY want Syd and Marcus to get together though...

Struggling through. I liked episode 1 but its' gone downhill since. Just about made it to the end of episode 8 the other evening. Awful shite. Couldn't be arsed watching the last two episodes. Disappointing, to say the least.

Finally started s3 after being put off by all the mixed reviews. I really enjoyed ep1, ep2 felt like a lot of boring Richie vs Carmy shouting and I have just finished the Doors ep (ep3) and it felt like a classic Bear stressful episode, which I always love. So a mixed bag so far, but liking it and I'm interested to see where the restaurant goes as it's clearly not sustainable for the gang at the moment... 😬

Anyone know what pills Carmy was eating throughout service in the Doors ep? I can't find anything about it online

Just finished S3. I’m afraid it’s lost it’s magic but
im hoping since Carmy has confronted Joel McHales character he can move forward. Because it’s SO stagnant right now. Without him pushing the story it doesn’t really move forward

More Syd and Lucas though. Their chemistry was 1000% better than anything with her and Marcus.

Just finished s3 too! I don't understand the mixed/bad reviews - to me, it's better than s1, and there are some episodes - Napkins and Ice Chips - which are s2 perfection level. There was a little too much Fak for me, I ended up fast-forwarding those parts especially the John Cena episode as the "haunting" stuff was unbelievably annoying.

The soundtrack was mega as always, I need to find it on Spotify tomorrow!

Finished S3 a few days ago. Just feel that nothing has moved on really, nothing happened. We got a bit more insight into some of the characters, sure, but no actual storylines.

Positives: I loved Tina's ep and her conversation with Mikey, the return of Chi-Chi to help Ebra with the beef window, Richie's Taylor Swift bracelets, and 'Ice Chips' was just so, so well done. Oh and excellent Beastie Boys usage on the soundtrack. Negatives: some of the Fak comedy segments felt overlong and self indulgent, and I don't give a duck about Claire

I can't stand Claire either!

So many posts I’d like to quote here! Napkins was it for me, what hit me hard was Tina’s age when Mikey found her, I turned 46 recently and I felt so seen in terms of being a mother and having a career.

This season wasted so much time on Claire, especially as an apology didn’t surface. I like the Faks, but that cameo was overkill. What would be cool is an episode with all of these guys as kids - maybe that’s a spinoff in the making?

What I really liked about this season is how the cameos from Season 2 - which were so well done imo - were expanded on. Syd and Luca meeting was a joy, both of them orbiting Carmy at different times. Carmy has so much potential to build a healthy supportive chosen family if he tries.

I agree with everything you said, but especially yes to this!!!

There were a few scenes in the finale where it seemed like Carmy was on the outskirts of the group at the table - everyone was sharing stories of their chef career, with even Syd joining in and fitting in immediately. Carmy stayed silent despite probably having a ton of stories himself. Did he assume he wouldn't fit in even if he tried? I know he was distracted by Joel McHale's character, but joining in with the group might have distracted him from spiraling.

In other news, I am adopting two kittens on Saturday and naming one of them Carmy 😁

I honestly think it’s more him feeling unworthy and the self sabotage that comes with everything he has been through. When he opened up to his table about how he’d been bullied the feeling was one of a friend opening up to his circle. You know they’d have his back if he let them, and he’d do the same for them if he was in a good place.

Ditto. I hate how she is portrayed; just an adjunct to Carmy. Massive Bechdel test fail.

The Ice Chips episode bugged the hell out of me. It was such an unrealistic portrayal of labour.
