The Archers

As someone who is childfree by choice, I personally really hope they don’t have Fallon change her mind or accidentally get pregnant, or find out that she can’t have children so the choice element is taken away. It’s pretty easy not to get pregnant if that’s important to you, and recent babies in Ambridge (Martha and Rosie) have both been accidents, plus Chelsea’s recent storyline.

I have children but agree with you.
It would be too easy to have a 'ah but women who say they don't want children don't really mean it' storyline.
And especially important with someone like Fallon who is an only child, and may therefore feel pressure to provide grandchildren.
An interesting topic and I hope the programme explores it intelligently. With no blame on Fallon or Harrison.

I agree with you but I don’t think Fallon would change her mind and suddenly want children after all, more that she would succumb to the immense pressure. I agree that it’s refreshing to have a genuine child free by choice story line and hope it’s not the case it’s just how I can see it going. Good point about Martha though it would be following that storyline a little to closely, especially as Alice seemed to not want children.

I totally agree that being child free is a choice, personally I get annoyed when I hear stuff like “oh she’ll change her mind when she gets past 30” … patronising not to mention disrespectful. The one comment I will make is that it appears that Fallon and Harrison never had the ‘shall we have kids conversation’ before they married, if they did then I missed it. When the topic came up down the line it was reported as Harrison had no idea Fallon didn’t want to have kids and it transpires that on more than one occasion Fallon has offered to give up the relationship so Harrison can be with someone who does want children: I couldn’t stop shaking my head when I heard her say that, where does this get either of them? Communication skills are sadly lacking in that relationship; which I find odd as both are likeable, straightforward and decent people, weird one for me.

I agree with everything you’re saying until the bit about them both being likeable! PC Plod is insufferable, and Fallon seems so entitled sometimes! They do seem to regularly row over poor communication like when he decided he wanted a different job, it’s very irritating.

Thing that's annoying me with the Hilda storyline - as a cat lover - is that Hilda sounds like a completely normal, if a slightly grumpy and particular, regular cat! Cats often take a liking to one person over another. They are basically tiny furry toddlers who will do anything to get a treat and have absolutely no boundaries or rules. As for having an entire bloody episode about trying to find her when she'd gone missing only to find her curled up under the table, that is a normal cat thing to do. They love to please themselves and have no time for human indignation.

It's all very pro-dog isn't it :D
I can’t believe Bridge Farm hasn’t had a cat!
Most farms I’ve been to have had one or two farm cats.
They don’t even seem to have a dog!
Very odd.

Ooooohhhhhh I’m invested against. Great storyline with Harry! I genuinely had no idea that he might have a problem with alcohol. Such a surprise in that episode and I thought it was great!

I can see some great storylines coming up for Harrison and fallon.

Here’s my prediction…. May be a touch melodramatic for Ambridge but anyway.

Harrison will try to warn Alice about Harry and make an enemy of Harry in the process. Harry and Alice will stay together ‘it was just a one off, I had a bit too much to drink’ etc.

Meanwhile the investigation into the Wolverhampton crew gets deeper and more dodgy.

Fallon accidentally falls pregnant. She doesn’t want to keep it but cannot bear to have an abortion. They agree to keep the baby but harrison will be the main caregiver. His job is becoming so stressful and he really wants to do this.

Things keep brewing in the background as harrison finds out more about harry. He tells Chris who tries to ‘save’ Alice. Harry is furious with harrison. Shady characters from Wolverhampton are around. Harrison gets into a suspicious accident where he maybe dies (!) leaving Fallon to raise a child alone. Suspicions fall in the Wolverhampton dog gangsters but Chris has his own theory.

I like the sound of all this - can you take over from the real SWs, please?!!!

I think I'm going to be slightly annoyed if the Harry thing is that he's an alcoholic too. One night getting out your tree and stripping in a club does not an alcoholic make!

Of course it doesn’t.. I was thinking it was a Friday night binge with the boys, Harry was outside a club, no one goes to a club on their own. Elsewhere people have taken a real dislike to Harry and are writing up scenarios with him as a real villain of
of piece: all bases covered, anything from a coercive control freak (yeah right, just after we’ve finally seen the end of Rob🙄); an alcoholic; is bipolar; addicted to pain medication (not a bad shout) .. I won’t go on, just fed up with seeing totally irrational thoughts. I’m of the view that this storyline isn’t essentially about Harry, Jack Ashton who plays him is a fairly well known actor and I wonder if he can be in it for the long haul, have a feeling this is all about Alice and her alcoholicism, something is up with Harry and it’s all about when Alice does discover what that is how she will cope with the stormy seas that will no doubt lay ahead,
I’m also annoyed too, lazy writing.

Did no one else pick up a spark between Harrison and the female police officer during the drunken Harry arrest episode?
Affair?
She wants kids?

Maybe not an alcoholic but a problem drinker? after the accident maybe he leant on alcohol a bit too much. You can be a problem drinker without being an alcoholic. Many non alcoholics shouldn’t drink.

Yeah I’m thinking binge drinker, who might lead Alice astray, or at least make Alice and the people around her think he’ll lead her astray.

Absolutely true as well! And it's not a great idea for someone in recovery to be around someone like that.

Though maybe Harry will go the way of the Shetland pony... one episode speculating about something awful then never mentioned again!

So will Miles Titchener do the dirty on Emma and Ed? I can't think how but you never know. Them Grundies never 'ave any luck 😂 (As they keep telling themselves despite falling on their feet with Oliver allowing them to rent Grange Farm at no doubt peppercorn rent).

considering it's a radio, aural show, so many voices/tones I don't like!
My beef is that so many of the cast have near identical anonymous voices. Ben, Josh, Toby, Rex, Rory, and Harry, all sound the same to me. So do Stella, Hannah, Alice, Lily, Phoebe, and Ardil's sister. Takes me several minutes to work out who is in the scene. Now this Marko gangster sounds just like Vince.

Yes you're right 😂
I have to listen for a few minutes to get context to work out who it is. As you say, the younger ones sound so similar.
As for Vince/Marko/Syksey 🤦‍♀️

I didn't listen to Wednesday nights episode (I can't stand to listen to the talk of animal farming, as a veggie so turned it off straight away). What happened with Harrison and Harry? I've listened to last nights but think I might have missed something...
