Spotted this on a mumsnet thread. I know you can’t believe everything you read but this is consistent with his comments in the interview talked about upthread here.
He does this in a more subtle way with his partners on the show too. Obviously he knows when to stop short of going too far on camera but all the sly digs and looks to camera and the partners just have to laugh along. Well it's thanks to being stuck with the 'duffers' that he managed to last on the show for so long. There's no way he could have kept up with younger, fitter celebs anyway and would have been given the boot long ago.

Apparently Strictly are announcing all the celebs next week and have had no problem getting people to sign up (according to DM).

Of course they wouldn't have. It's still the biggest show on TV and regardless of what we think of how people have been treated, this news cycle with everything will get them even more viewers. There is going to be so many people tuning in for that first episode.

Let’s be honest - they never have issues to sign folk up, neither does I’m a celeb, DOI and CBB. Do they get their first choices ? Never and never will but they know the fickle world of celebrity is full of F listers and lower… has there ever been a quality signing of someone very current ? Nope, these people need to make their next few mortgage payments and pay their winter utility bills

it’s does parachute some folk.. I believe Alysha Dixon wouldn’t be a judge on BGT if she hadn’t won SCD.. she’s a mediocre girl band rapper who was married and cheated on by a rat from so solid and would be just as washed up as the other 2 girls had she not won.

He's trying to equate Giovanni's behaviour here with trans rights and that is a bit icky imo.

He isn’t doing that at all. You’ve brought something external to JD’s post and claimed that he has centred it in this post. He hasn’t done that.

The point he’s highlighting, very clearly, is that women are not listened to when they voice valid concerns, and are vilified, demonised and threatened for speaking out.

All of which appears to have been Amanda’s experience in this case.

Makes me wonder what Anton said about his celeb partners when he thinks nobody is looking.

Well he slags them off repeatedly in his comments to other couples on the show (which is supposedly ‘hilarious’), so I shudder to think!

Did anyone see her on Lorraine? was it more or less the same?

Just saw this: she said that on day 3 she texted a producer saying Giovanni hated her and she didn't know why. I wonder if he was just fucked off to be there, didn't want to be on the show, knew they wouldn't win even if she was good, and took it out on her? we know he has a foul temper.

But he actually made her into a really good dancer. I was not a fan of hers but her final dance was so good I thought she would definitely be in the final and could win. So surely he also saw how well she was developing. I am not condoning his treatment of her just pointing out that he had a potential finalist and must have recognised that

Remember seeing Gio's IG post just after they had been told who they were partnered with. He was there with a clenched fist as if to say 'yes, he has a good partner'.

As for Amanda's dancing, it was so so good, her posture and lines were impressive and overall could see her as a potential winner. I was obviously backing another couple, but was genuinely thinking that she would be the main rival. It was a shame that she had to remove herself from the competition, not sure she would have done that if there was a way that she thought that the partnership could continue.

I bow to anyone who will have superior knowledge, I believe there will be chaperones, how independent of BBC/Strictly staff will they be, or will they also record all training?
Also I know every year there’s talk of a group chat, will they monitor communications between the individual pairs too? I know people would have to be a fool to abuse their partner via written chat, but Graz was fool enough to assault Zara.

He's always been a sarcastic effer. Had notions above his station and was often downright catty about his partners.

I watched him on life stories with Kate Garraway and thought his wife and kids were beautiful, but I felt he came across as quite full of himself.

For someone of a mediocre dancing ability (I'm speaking purely SCD) and questionable 'good looks'...he certainly got lucky...which I hasten to add I do not begrudge. Just wish he wasn't a judge and had gone like the rest of the old pros and taken the risable Shireley Ballas with him:mad:

No knowledge of chaperone situation but would like to know how they will operate.

Will they have two chaperones per couple, one for each party?
Will they be male/female or whatever, can each half of the couple have a preference?

You ask a good question, will they be employed by the BBC. They should really be independent, they don't want the production or HR dept leaning on them for a positive outcome.

Does anybody trust the BBC any more, to do the right thing even if it is detrimental to their product? There has been too much, from too many, for us to think that could be the case. :(

Agree.

He likes to come across as nice, but he has an underlying way with him when he tries to be funny, that he really means the detrimental comments he makes.

He was happy to get the duffer as he jolly well knew that he did not have the dance acumen, especially in Latin, that would mean he had any possibility of winning. (a couple of partners did stand out though)

He was happy to take the duffer, last a few weeks, get the rest of the series off, then pick up the pay cheque. Nice work if you can get it, year on year. Look where it got him, a pay cheque of at least 6 times the pro dancer wage and a place next to head b*tch judge, on the overpaid panel.

I've not watched strictly for a few years now but obviously seen the stuff that's come out about Gio and Amanda. In her interview, she said that she requested the cameras to be added and the production staff then reviewed it each week and were shocked at what they saw. If what she is saying is true why didn't the BBC withdraw him? Instead she left after 5 weeks.

Graziano was sacked because of his conduct with Zara from a whistleblower. So why is Gio treated differently than Graz especially as they have video evidence?

Chaperones have no idea if they will be independent from the BBC. If independent, as I have said before, I am willing to volunteer to chaperone Vito’s partner and also make sure by staying with Vito that he doesn’t send his partner any abusive text once he leaves the training room.

Obviously what Amanda has gone through with Gio has been awful. But I wonder how much of what the producers were saying to her was them paying lip service or trying to placate her not to leave the show? Vs them actually believing Gio was behaving badly. He clearly WAS and I 100% believe Amanda but I think the BBC have handled this so badly it wouldn’t surprise me if they were agreeing with her initially just to shut her up 😫

Absolutely, I find it offensive too but those are the people who are already unsympathetic and she's just making it worse.
Tbh she does come across as pretty dramatic. That doesn't mean I'm condoning anything Giovanni has done but from what we've heard it's not in the same league as what Graziano did to Zara who has handled the situation with strength and grace.
To be fair to Amanda, Zara has not spoken about it much in public (yet). Her reaction will also be scrutinized the moment she were to do so
---
Only watched a short clip of Amanda talking but wondering why she doesn’t actually say what Gio did? She said he bullied her but doesn’t say what the bullying was? Is she legally not allowed to or is it just too traumatic for her?
I'm thinking she maybe can't be too specific while it is all still ongoing
---
She's done herself no favours. Show some class and be silent when something is ongoing. She's an attention seeker and her timing is because she's trying to get in there first with Gio apparently going to be cleared possibly this week.

And why shouldn't she, if she knows she's right

There have been some reports about Sophie Ellis Bextor’s autobiography and I don’t know if outlets are presenting it in a certain way, but her husband does seem unhinged at points and gave me red flags.

‘All the while, Richard was feeling left out in the cold. He was worried he was losing me. Not that I was going to run off with anyone – he liked Brendan and knew that nothing was going to happen there – but I think he thought that something was awakening in me and he felt he wasn't part of my future. I never, ever felt like that, but I couldn't convince him. He could see that I was completely wrapped up in the show and consumed with the intensity of it and the constant learning, learning, learning which you share with one other person – your dance partner.’

‘Richard became unusually insistent on knowing where I was all the time. If I didn't reply to a text, he'd spiral…Supporting me in all that I do usually came so easily to him, but with Strictly I think he was just waiting for it to end. He'd message me all day when I was rehearsing, extra keen to know my schedule…We would argue when I was home about how distracted I was and about whether I'd get through to the next week. He just felt as if I might slip into a new life that left our family behind…I had no such desire, but was too spent at the end of the day to give the reassurance he needed. I think the only real reassurance could come with the show finishing.’

She also wrote that he began counselling a month into the show. She seems to blame herself for his behaviour (saying that she was too spent too keep giving him reassurances) and that he only felt reassured when she finished. Sophie and Richard have made a big show about how Richard trusted Brendan despite his previous notoriety but it seems from what Sophie wrote he didn’t trust his wife? He became almost obsessive over her.
Yeah I can’t help but read articles about Sophie’s terrible time on Strictly and think that’s not actually a Strictly problem. That’s your walking carnival of red flags husband.
