The powers that be need to go - it happened on their watch, and they have turned a blind eye. It's unacceptable.

They have time to put in place a chaperoning policy, and to ensure that all rehearsals are recorded before the new series kicks off, and I think they should absolutely do that.

Shirley, Shirley, Shirley. Honestly, I want to like her but she's behaving appallingly. None of the other judges have come out and commented, why is she doing so? She should be given a warning about it.

ETA, because posy posted as I was typing my original message, that Amanda isn't popular. She's an older woman, people have a bee in their bonnet about her supporting female rights, she's the one that (rightly) kicked off the complaints and investigation. She's the victim, yet in some people's eyes she's an easy target to demonize.

In the same vein as my recent rant I’ve just seen a
Clip on social media of Lorraine’s show. She reads out Zara’s statement, knowing full well the physical abuse she has endured and flippantly declares
“It’s all about matching up the right people really isn’t it”
Beyond fuming that a woman with such a platform
Would make that statement. Does anyone know an email address/ person to contact at ITV to complain? I feel this needs to be challenged. So bloody dangerous to women who are trying to speak up

Yes, I am still furious with Shirley. Of course he was nice to you and your old mum! what was he going to do, get his cock out and wank threateningly in front of you??

I fear that in Amanda's case there is no video evidence and this will eventually just be disposed of with a 'clash of personalities' narrative. The fact that people supporting Zara but defending Gio can't see that without the video she'd have been in exactly the same boat is ironic.

Brilliant thanks. I urge anyone who watches it and feels strongly about it to so the same
This Victim blaming shite needs to stop.

The show needs a huge overhaul and the higher ups who ignored complaints about Graz's behaviour should be sacked. They have a lot of issues to work on and there obviously isn't enough time to deal with everything before the next series starts. But at this stage with contracts signed and people needing to be paid, I don't think they'd be able to cancel it even if they wanted to. A shorter series starting a bit later with less celebs might be a good middle ground, but in reality I think they will rush out a normal series with some words behind the scenes telling everyone to behave and it will probably be quite an anxious environment for everyone involved including the celebs as there will be even more media attention on them than usual this year.

What an appalling fucking thing to say. She really sickens me anyway, Lorraine Kelly.

I remember reading probably on her thread here about her making a really flippant remark to a couple who were on her show. The woman had breast cancer, which was the reason for the interview and LK made some really stupid, crass comment, and the couple were left dumbfounded.

What I find interesting is that Zara appears to have more support across SM because there is video evidence and also Graz admitted it but a lot people still don’t believe all the people that have come forward about Gio because there doesn’t appear to be video evidence of physical abuse.
It also appears that people seem to think that Zara has been a better complainant in the way that she's conducted herself and they think that Amanda just wanted to ruin a career of somebody they like

As a breast cancer survivor I fucking ate her even
more!
Just sent the email with steam coming out of my ears. What an appalling message to send out.

Another point that occurred to me is that a lot of people have mentioned how Zara seemed to be very friendly with Graziano and his wife on social media etc. And that may have been genuine, but also, showbiz types often exaggerate their connections with other people if it's helpful to them / their profile / their work. Nothing sinister in that, it's just the way these things (apparently) work. So Graziano would certainly have benefitted from his association with Zara, and Zara might also have benefited because it reminded people of her association with Strictly (the biggest show on the BBC). I have a close friend who is in that world, and her social media is all "darling this, darling that, love youuu, my super-talented friend, etc." when sometimes it's just a selfie from a 5-minute meet at a drinks reception with someone she's barely met.

It’s possible that like many famous people, they don’t even manage their own social media accounts.

I've been wanting to write this for awhile now. I never really understood the hate Amanda got & the impression she is difficult to work with. Is it because she knows what she does & doesn't want?? I just get the impression she is very focused. The one thing about being a women in your 40's plus is that you feel you can speak up more & know your boundaries. And is it that Gio was the golden boy?? I'm probably not articulating this well! I just didn't get the hate pile on that she receives

Middle aged women are disliked, not just by men but by other women too. They are not encouraged to speak out. If they do they get accused of being Karens, which is an insult that also gets deployed on here even by other female posters. That trope Karen is just a shorthand for saying button it you old bag, your complaint or comment may be relevant but you aren’t anymore, because you are past it. But as you say when you do get older, you do speak up more. And so she did. And it needed saying.

My name is not Karen but I feel for anyone who is because of its adoption in this highly misogynistic way.

This is totally it

In regards to SM and Zara continuing to dance with Graziano, a lot of those sorts of things are not organic they are agreed upon with the folk who represent them be it management or PR some of those things may have been agreed upon with their teams making it difficult for Zara to back out.

Yes, Zara didn't complain (and was 'lucky' that someone else finally reported it and was believed). Imagine if she'd complained in November when she was eliminated - it would all have been 'she's just bitter/lazy/couldn't take it'.
Meanwhile Amanda complained, then walked, then complained again when it was clear nothing was being done. I thought it was quite touching in her Times interview when she said 'I'm not some monster out to destroy someone's career'.
The perfect victim is non-existent.

I've been musing on the Zara situation since news broke.
I will start by saying I didn't like Zara before or during strictly and I wasnt sad to see her go.
I've never had feelings either way for Graz, seemed nice enough but not very interesting and that hair was terrible.

When all this came out, I admit, I couldn't get my head round it as it all seemed so bizarre. An accidental hit in training we've all seen, spitting on is entirely different from spitting while being riled up causing spit to come out of your mouth while distressed or angry or in a state of losing control, but the kicking thing was the bit that got me thinking.

Now, in the balance of fairness, I want to say people can and do lose their shit when there is stuff going on. G said there were external forces or something involved here. So had he got stuff going on and had had a rant at her that got out of hand? He then calmed down and was mortified and apologised profusely, she accepted the apology and they moved on.

That, to me, would explain why they appeared to still be close long after their strictly time was done.

Now we read he was warned and still carried on with his behaviour. So my brain at this point goes to, what is in Z's life that she thought this was OK and acceptable behaviour from a teacher/colleague/friend? Is she that lacking in mature and balanced support that she didn't feel she could step away from this man?

Now she has put her statement out, we see both sides of this story. He goes "oh poor me. Everyone let me down and forced me to behave atrociously"
Z on the other hand explains how she saw the situation and, with no histrionics gives a very well worded and strong account of herself.

I'm the sort of person who always likes to consider both sides before I comment, please don't think that I excuse G's behaviour in trying to work out if there were reasons (not excuses) for what came out originally.

I hope Zara gets the support she needs going forward from here and I'm glad she can find positives from her strictly time.

Very often in life people who look like very decent folk hide a very nasty side to them and he is clearly one of them
---
There is clearly some unpleasant goings on over at strictly currently, but with the head judge being such an outrageous bully on prime time tv every Saturday night, it may be that others feel it's ok to behave this way too.

Shirley has to take some responsibility for this mess. She is so spiteful to some of the celebs (and pros) but if a good looking bloke comes along it's excruciating watching her fawning over them. If a man was doing that, he wouldn't have lasted 2 seasons.

And now she keeps speaking out to defend Gio. Has she thought for just one second how this will make Amanda feel? She doesn't have to say anything bad about Gio. Just keep quiet. She is such a mean girl. If strictly and the BBC are committed to getting rid of the bad apples ruining this programme, start with her.

Women in general are not allowed to speak out, or be mouthy and outspoken. Look at the abuse Angela Rayner gets for example. Misogyny is still rife everywhere.
