I always think it must be very heady for a celeb on Strictly. They have this pro, this person who is there just for them. They are their safety net, their support blanket, their coach, their psychiatrist all wrapped up in a cheerleading package. They coax them out to dance when they are terrified, they put them back together after a judges mauling and they tell anyone who will listen that this week they are going to be fab, they talk them down in a 4am phone call. For the length of time they are in the show, it’s the most important relationship they have … and for some that’s getting on for 4 months’.

Theres no wonder it can turn into a crush or more … but really the pro is just doing their job. After the final dance it’s ‘cheeribye, then’ (and in the case of James with Dr Pamela, change the phone number, the locks, grow a beard and buy many hats) and again for the celeb it must be like having the rug pulled from under them. I think quite a few struggle to let go.

it’s a very uneven, unreal relationship though … I imagine that any relationship that makes it after Strictly has ha dto almost start again from scratch.

I think it was Pamela Stephenson I was thinking of, although I’m sure I did read Jeremy Vine say he had feelings for Karen.

Even though Saint Tom of Fletcherness has been famous for a long time and is a performer, he and Amy’s relationship makes me think one or both had romantic/sexual feelings. That whole thing was odd and played out very publicly. I had read that Amy did a Coppafeel charity trek with Gio Fletcher and it made me cringe with second hand embarrassment, it must have been so awkward

i feel like i would probably end up falling a bit in love with my pro too if i was a celeb (especially if it was nikita). you go from spending so much time with this person: to them, it’s a job. to you, it’s (at best) an absolute life-changing experience where you exist in a glittery world full of confidence and love. and then suddenly it just all ends. my pro/nikita would probably be taking out a restraining order.

(i do think hamza fell a little bit in love with jowita too)

I'd definitely fall in love with Nikita (as if I'm not already in love with him 😆)

I think Aljaz would have been a pro who put everything into the partnership and probably made them feel like the only woman in the world.

Janette obviously wasn’t as threatened by Emma as she was by Abbey!

Louise, as well, developed an unwise Kevin from Grimsby attachment.

I mean, say what you like about James (and I have :cool: ) But it’s fairly obvious that he has only ever had eyes for Ola. Same for Aljaz with Janette.

Add to all that the Social Media chatter of ‘look how he looks at her‘ squeeeee ‘he stroked her arm in a protective way’ <melts>. ’I want someone to look at me the way x looks at y’ <sigh> and if you are the one mid-crush there is a certain validation going on that it’s not just you.

There was an iplayer interview with Abbey & Aljaz after they won (a one-off, they didn’t do it for any other series). At one point Zoe mentioned Janette and Abbey quite noticeably rolled her eyes in a ‘urgh, that witch’ way before composing herself again.
I don’t think anything happened, but I’d say Abbey definitely had intense, if temporary, feelings for Aljaz.

Im surprised Janette didn’t take out a restraining order on Sara.

Amy and Tom’s “relationship” was extremely odd. Didn’t she move in with them at some point. I distinctly remember Tom having to carry her to an ambulance while wearing death defying Crocs.

That weird throuple thing that temporarily seemed to form is probably the most interesting thing Tom and Gi have ever done. 😆
