Was there someone else who said after they’d fallen in love with their partner but nothing had happened - Jeremy Vine maybe?

John Waite apparently liked Catherine Tyldesley’s post on ‘cakegate’ which makes me wonder if he sees himself more of a celeb now than a baker
 
Interesting how in that article it refers to the TV work drying up after around 5 years.

Coincidentally roughly translates to the same time he went back to the law profession and intended to qualify as a barrister.

Whether he actually did or not I don't know, but it's interesting how scrubbed from his history his legal training has been, even that period in the middle of his celeb career.

Quite surprised at that I have to say.

Also, what was with the "because I'm not allowed to, legally" when he said he couldn't speak for Johannes? Just say you can't speak for him and leave it at that.

he sounds hard work tbh.

it’s interesting to me that he implies that he and johannes cannot be in contact over fear that something would happen (or that he has deliberately cut contact with johannes for that reason) - how does his partner feel about that?!?

I think it would be harder for John, literally 😏, and mentally because I don't think he could keep it in his pants.

It sounds like he had some fooling around with celebs when he first got famous.

Johannes could definitely do better and wouldn't need someone who would be such hard work

Call me cynical, but John and Johannes did Celebrity Gogglebox together just last year, so that doesn't really tally with the no contact thing (I haven't read the full interview so maybe he mentions this) so I wonder if there's a bit of embellishment going on here

I don't mind John, but I don't think Strictly gave his career the boost he thought it would and he does strike me as one of those people that has to be centre of attention all the time

oooo i’d forgotten about that! tbf i think they only did the one-off pride episode and john just says minimal contact, so it is still possible (they probably only would have filmed together for a few hours for it).

fully agree with your second paragraph. i don’t know how he couldn’t see that it was unfair to his partner to share all of this personal stuff about their relationship.
 
They seemed to stay close for a while so the low-contact stuff doesn't add up unless something recent happened. I just hope that Johannes fully consented to whatever was shared in this because it's pretty classless. And of course, it comes out in the lead up to Strictly season. :(

I'm going to guess that Strictly didn't give him any career boost because he comes off high-maintenance and wasn't that interesting outside of being in the first all-male pairing.

i always thought there was something between abbey and aljaz too - she started doing that classic thing of not wanting to be too close or obvious with him so was always pulling at her dress etc rather than putting her arm around him (i know it seems small but i noticed it at the time 🤣) they were such a gorgeous pairing.

i know we’ve said it before but it’s SUCH an intense set up that it wouldn’t surprise me if this had happened multiple times. it’s just that most keep it to themselves.
 
I always think it must be very heady for a celeb on Strictly. They have this pro, this person who is there just for them. They are their safety net, their support blanket, their coach, their psychiatrist all wrapped up in a cheerleading package. They coax them out to dance when they are terrified, they put them back together after a judges mauling and they tell anyone who will listen that this week they are going to be fab, they talk them down in a 4am phone call. For the length of time they are in the show, it’s the most important relationship they have … and for some that’s getting on for 4 months’.

Theres no wonder it can turn into a crush or more … but really the pro is just doing their job. After the final dance it’s ‘cheeribye, then’ (and in the case of James with Dr Pamela, change the phone number, the locks, grow a beard and buy many hats) and again for the celeb it must be like having the rug pulled from under them. I think quite a few struggle to let go.

it’s a very uneven, unreal relationship though … I imagine that any relationship that makes it after Strictly has to almost start again from scratch.

exactly this!

i feel like i would probably end up falling a bit in love with my pro too if i was a celeb (especially if it was nikita). you go from spending so much time with this person: to them, it’s a job. to you, it’s (at best) an absolute life-changing experience where you exist in a glittery world full of confidence and love. and then suddenly it just all ends. my pro/nikita would probably be taking out a restraining order.

(i do think hamza fell a little bit in love with jowita too)

Dr Pam got pretty obsessive about James Jordan and published a few weird newspaper columns about the obsession. 😬

I was informed by someone ‘in the know’ that Susannah Reid was unhealthily attached to Kevin C, but he warily kept her at arm’s length.

And let us not forget Widdy’s red hot crush on Anton 😁
