Given that the AT has a strong history of male/male partnerships, I’d love to see Nikita & Layton do something pure and classic like this, executed with absolute technical precision, and in beautiful suits. No cartwheels, no backflips, just a lyrical conversation in movement.

Sadly, the Strictly AT choreographers won’t be able to resist the temptation to turn it into a fireworks display ☹

I think they’ll put Layton in a dress (which will of course be his fault). I think they’ll go full out with the 🔥 no-one is missing the chemistry between these two, they’ll play on it as much as possible. I’m not sure we’ll get backflip & cartwheels though. Layton has had nearly all upbeat numbers so far. I don’t think we can really judge what he’ll get thrown for the slower numbers. But whatever it is, it’ll be his fault. Not the professional choreographers they bring in for the AT.

I mean, that AT is almost unrecognisable from any AT I’ve seen on Strictly! They really play the whole passion & sex thing on Strictly. Those guys could not be less sexy 😅 amazing dancing though.

That’s because the Strictly version of AT bears very little relationship to AT as it is actually danced. The Strictly version is all big lifts, tricks, gimmicks, aggression and over-egged ‘sexiness’.

Authentic AT is a subtle dance of connection and partnership, not two people kicking like donkeys in a tableau of a domestic violence. I wish they’d give us a ‘proper’ version at least once, rather than the caricature it’s become. But I guess people expect the cartoon version now (which is probably true for most dances on Strictly now) 🤷‍♀️

Even when the AT arrived on Strictly with Vincent and Flavia, it was the show style AT rather than the salon. It’s like Anton (of all people) was trying to say on Saturday, it’s really an unchorographed dance and the leg movements come from the lead and follow not for a set pattern. The trick on Strictly is to make it look unrehearsed. It seems Anton has learnt more about it since his time on the show, and Craig has definitely taken time to understand. The only pro I can think of who actually made the effort to learn about it outside of the show was Aliona.

Yes, completely agree about V&F and their ‘showdance’ style of AT - between that and Len’s obsession with ‘sweaty pampas’ and ‘ladies of the night’, the Strictly AT has mutated into a rather strange beast 🫤

The pros do seem to struggle with it in general. Dianne danced it particularly badly on Saturday, I thought.

When she did the instruction VT in Doc Martens, I winced.
I think my hopes faded at that point.

Yes a traditional argentine tango really focusing on the technical parts and no modern twists would be amazing. I'm really hoping for traditional music too. I love AT's, this has potential to be perfect if the choreographers don't mess it up.

The comments on the BBC post about Adam's elimination are going in HARD on Angela. Don't know if it's a build-up of frustration at judges' perceived favouritism over weeks, as I find it hard to get worked up about Adam being sent home when he's basically on an intravenous drip and a hair away from withdrawing.
Also, no matter what my feelings on celebs or pros (looking at you FR!) I have never commented publicly on them outside here. People need to get a grip.
I find it hard to get terribly bothered when the dance off is between the person at the bottom of the leaderboard and the person who is one point and one place higher up, especially when the person who goes is sweating more than Giovanni in his first year, looks like he needs his eyelids propped open with matchsticks and is being held up by his pro partner and will power.

I confess I fast forwarded all of their piece. I find both of them quite hard to listen to, or watch.
I was watching later than usual on Saturday night. I normally take a break while they are on. I did go back yesterday to watch the actual dance and the feedback.
They got a very decent score (30, I think?) even though they didn't seem very happy with it.

I hope they don't get to the final. 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞
