But he said everyone was struggling with ballroom and Dianne and Kai, for example, are ballroom specialists.

I suspect he was slightly pulling stuff out of his arse - he criticised Layton's ballroom posture but gave two of them 9! He gave Bobby's VW 9! Maybe he's gearing up to a new narrative this Saturday when Angela's waltz will get a 10 and he'll say 'finally, ballroom is back, baby!'

Maybe, but I suspect someone like Angela Scanlon just isn't really cut out for the more sophisticated, slow ballroom dancers and her combination of energy and Irish dancing background suits the fast Latin dances a lot more. Latin is probably nearer what Layton has done before as well.
 
Sorry if this has already been discussed but I'm just watching the Strictly Len Goodman programme on iplayer (it auto started playing after I watched ITT). It's a good insight for anyone who has only recently started watching the show into what it was like in previous years. So
cheap looking at the beginning! Some interesting comments from the old pros etc though.

I do feel that it's all heading a bit burn the floor nowadays with less focus on foundation technique etc, but I guess that's life.

I agree with this. Sometimes you only get 30 seconds or so of actual ballroom.

Yeah, but Dianne is never going to get a good ballroom frame out of the foot taller Bobby 😁. His bum is always going to be taking out the front row.

It was insanely cheap in those first 3/4 series. Not in HD, the stage looked very minimalistic and weirdly lit, and the old narrow judges desk gives me claustrophobia honestly.
 
Danny and Oti’s samba just popped up on my FYP. I haven’t watched it in a while and I’d forgotten just how phenomenal it was. I will never understand how anyone could have seen that dance and not voted for them to win.

(The hill I will die on is that I am confident that that was one of the closest votes in any Strictly final and Danny only just lost it.)
 
So on DS they are saying that Nikita has been wearing a knee brace (see here: https://www.ok.co.uk/celebrity-news/strictlys-nikita-kuzmin-struggles-knee-31344898)

AND that Nadiya was papped leaving training with them? sparking rumours that she might end up taking Nikita's place? OF course she could have been there for another reason, or helping with choreo. At least that mad Nadiya fan on DS would be ecstatic if it's a Layton and Nadiya jive!

OMG I just saw that. Also shading Nikita (no offence to Nadiya, but if she's a different level to Nikita, why do I remember Nikita's routines over hers?? Can't let another male pro take the spotlight!)

Why use Nadiya when they've got Gio right there.... I'd find that very very funny for.. reasons, and he'd certainly have Layton's ballroom frame sorted in double quick time.

More seriously, Nadiya's an excellent teacher (and a different level from Nikita), so Layton will be in good hands. She's a height match, isn't she, so the choreography should work for her on the live show if needed

LadyLav already displeased that it's Nadiya not Gio helping with their training :rolleyes:

If anyone had to stand in for Nikita I'd rather it was Graz, alas not an option this week as he's gone home to see Giada. Anyway, anyone's better than the Fanny Rat, who does not deserve the chance to dance with a good male celeb after behaving like a colossal twit last year.

Fingers crossed Nikita will be OK for Saturday, or at least for next week at worst. 🤞
