Not for me - this horror show being a case in point:

I don't think he's really 'outdancing' her there (I have grown to hate that term!). She is keeping up fine. You can argue he is pulling focus a bit with his facial expressions which may annoy some people. I think most of the pros will use various tactics to cover up celebs' weaknesses. Female pros will often 'outdance' male celebs for example, who are a bit ropey or shuffling around - it's just less noticeable. I thought Amy outdanced James quite clearly this week, for example, but that is probably normal given it's week 1 and he messed up.

i think you’re exactly right with johannes that it’s his facial expressions and the animation in his movements which makes it look like he’s out dancing his partner, when he isn’t really. it’s more that you end up looking at him because he’s fun to watch.

there was one dance last year where i definitely thought he out danced john (i think their samba?) but that’s really the only time i’ve thought it was the case.

Cath's Charleston was the first time I thought he maybe needed to tone it down a bit to make her shine more - because it wasn't as if he was pulling focus to cover up for her being terrible (like some female pros do with duffers) as she was an ok dancer

I think with john it was more noticeable because you couldn't help comparing them what with not only being two blokes but also a similar build and John being a good dancer himself, but not quite up to Johannes's standard

But I did think Johannes did a great job with Ellie's quickstep and showed her off well

Ola Jordan was a prime example of ‘distraction’ techniques from cat suit deployment to partner just stood waving arms In air while she shimmed round them.

I do try to cut Pro’s some slack especially in their first year with a celeb … especially if it’s a less naturally gifted one. It must go against every instinct to dance down, especially at showtime so It can take them time to settle down especially if they are used to having to project from a stage or for judges. The camera is less forgiving than backseat of the Gods. Karen Hardy never quite grasped that.

I thought he looked like he couldn't believe they got the scores they did... like he thought it wasn't worthy of that.
Definitely. The WTF face he made at Shirley's 6 had me in stitches. But I also felt a bit bad for Ritchie. That said, the overscoring was unhinged, Gio wasn't the only pro looking bewildered by it.
I quite like Ritchie and Gio, hope that partnerships grows. If anyone can turn things around its Gio!
I hope so too. Come on Gio, I believe in you. Switch his coffee for decaf, hide the sugar, whatever you have to do, sort him out!

I liked Ellie's quickstep more than most of his choreography with John - apart from the Paso it was very meh and forgettable for me - and was glad he didn't overdance her. Concerned about the bar those ridiculous scores have set for her though. She was good, but it was very simple choreography and had to have been the slowest quickstep I've ever seen. I hope she doesn't come crashing down with an awkward Latin.

That Beyoncé song seems slow for a quickstep 🤷🏻‍♀️
I think they'll remix it/speed it up to be more befitting, like they did with Stevie Wonder's 'You Are the Sunshine of My Life' for Ranvir and Gio's own quickstep.

Speaking of remixing, that's what I miss from the earlier series of Strictly. Often, the band would rearrange songs to fit the dance type -- sometimes making them sound better than the originals. For example, I liked it when they remixed Beatles' 'Can't Buy Me Love' for Rachel Steven's salsa, did the same for Matt DiAngelo's own with the Ides of March's 'I'm Your Vehicle', and sambified Gloria Gaynor's 'I'll Be There' for Alesha Dixon's samba. Wish they did more of that these days.

I adore Johannes. I really felt for him the year he was paired with Caroline Quentin and she constantly pawed all over him. She even licked him at one point, the poor man. You could tell how uncomfortable he felt.
Agreed. That was one of the worst S18 partnerships [the worst, for me, were Luba and Jason]. The cha-cha-cha was revolting, with Caroline's gurning and hammy acting besides that infamous lick. To quote another Tattler from one of the Jack Monroe threads:

"My face is now permanently shaped like a rinsed kidney bean from cringing so hard."

Glad that Johannes got some redemption and reprieve through John the next year.

Now even as someone who is not fond of Johannes, I really felt for him with that insufferable Caroline Q. My goodness she thought she was all that and a bag of chips. The lick nearly made me heave. 🤮

Hamza's braid 😍 I just love him so much, what a sweet, beautiful, lovely man.

Sorry if it's not the place to ask but.....has anyone got tour tickets today through the easy access. I just want an idea of prices before I sit in the queue when they are on general release. Thanks a lot
