I think Karen was (inexplicably) nuts about him - I listened to her chatting on a podcast about divorce and she didn't go into specifics but it sounded like she was devastated when it ended. It was something like her asking him to put a bit more effort into their relationship and then he decided to just end it instead

Kevin strikes me as being one of those men who love-bombs early in a relationship and bails when it's not perfect anymore (which is why I'm still surprised him and Stacey have lasted 😆)

Imagine looking like (and acting like) Kevin, finding somebody as stunning as Karen and letting them go because you can't be arsed. He strikes me as a total prat.

Oh yes! Kevin from Grimsby blah blah blah. He was such a tosser when he won - it was all about him and our Stace was just standing on the side awkwardly.

Did anyone think for a second those two would end up together? I couldn't see any chemistry at all!

He seemed very into her from the off but yes, never saw much chemistry. Their win was so cringe, truly the Kevin Clifton show. Her boyfriend seemed like a bit of a an arse though, going to the papers to sell his story.

I guessed Kevin had a thing for her, there was a bit in the final where he said to her "you're sooo lovely" and I was thinking 'alright Kev'. But the presence of Stacey's bf in the audience most weeks made me think it wouldn't be reciprocated 😬 It was a dick move of him to out them to the Sun, but I can't say I blame him for being pissed off, imagine being dumped in favour of Kevin Clifton :oops:

Didn’t Kevin put in a word with producers that he wanted to be paired with Stacey? He made a play for her from the start so I imagine the boyfriend had his suspicions about his intentions all the way through so when he was proved right he wanted to have his say.

Very common indeed. For a competing partnership it can ease international travel for competition purposes - just think of the visa issues that various Strictly pros have had in the last few years.

Matthew & Nicole Cutler were a case in point (unless anyone truly believes that Matthew magically stopped being heterosexual once his & Nicole’s dance partnership had run its course).

I don’t see what is cynical about recognising that this is something that regularly happens in the dance world 🤷‍♀️ I’m sure there is indeed genuine affection and friendship between many of these partnerships (the Cutlers were supposedly very good friends for a long time after the marriage & the competitive career were over, and maybe still are), but it’s naive to think that every marriage is all about the hearts & flowers & forever & forever. Sometimes, it’s a contract that provides a means to an end (in life in general, not just the dance world)

I found when they just had Karen when I won with Ramps Hardy doing it, it tended to go a bit samey. At least swapping it up with the ex-pros gave it a bit of variety.

And there’s only so much pretending you are holding a tuna sandwich with your elbow a person can take. I need Erin and her perfectly timed eyebrow raise and side eye at least once.
