I can no longer look at Thor the same way now

On footballers I think it’s probably hard now finding one who’s willing. A lot of them take themselves far too seriously these days to even consider the show and most don’t need the money. They’d be getting less than what many were earning a week for up to four months work (assuming they’d win the thing and get £100K) even less if they were an early out. I can’t particularly see any of the current England (mens) squad pulling on the rhinestone spandex.

But you’ve also quite a few who go into coaching/management as well as broadcast careers in punditry. That’s more attractive to many but even there the market is swamped and some are truly awful (looking at you Paul scholes)

I initially thought it could be a fashion thing at the time but alas I also got married in 2013 - so I'm ditching that idea

I wish more of the pros had some chest hair - IMO so much sexier than a waxed chest!

Really late to the party, but just caught up on Week 1. This series overall will be a difficult one for me as I've always watched SCD with my sister, but sadly she passed away earlier this year, so it will be some heavy-hearted viewing.

All that said... a solid opener. I don't think it was as solid as last year's Week 1, but overall entertaining with quite a few strong contenders. Favourite routines for me were Hamza, Molly, the two Ellies, and Fleur -- even though her dance wasn't a cha-cha-cha.

I'm probably in a minority that doesn't mind Fleur as a person, though admittedly I've only really seen her when she's performing music (read: seldom). I agree with the judges that she should rein it in; as with her dancing generally, she attacks her moves too much. It will be interesting to see how/if she softens up as the competition progresses, especially for the ballroom dances.

I also agree with the consensus on here that the scores were over the place and a handful of dances in the first half were undermarked compared to later dances. I think Kym should've scored higher than she did, while I really didn't get the ooh-ing and aah-ing over Will. I kept forgetting his routine was meant to be a jive.

As for comedy reliefs: Tony is definitely one with that hot mess of a 'tango', which I was disappointed in from Katya. I also still don't know what to make of Richie.

I think the problem is that the footballers they’ve managed to wrangle are mainly the big units. They need a nippy one like a Michael Owen or a Stevie Gerrard.

The cricketers have the values of spacial awareness, lightness of foot, balance and co-ordination.

Matt Dawson was lucky that he met Len in peak SPORTSMAN mode and had Lilia backseat driving.

Hmm, not sure about that. Most closeted celebrities are only closeted to the public because they want to present a certain marketable image. Doesn't necessarily mean they're repressed/self-loathing in their personal life.

Katya was only 20 when she married so I almost cut her some slack (though she is bonkers anyway..). I would hate to be so cynical as to imply that either she or Karen married their charming spouses for any visa-related reasons.. (and tbf Katya and Neil seem to be bizarre bezzies still.. )

Everyone says Neil is bonkers, but so is Katya, they have a similar sense of humour. She’s just gorgeous so it’s not really noticed as much. I think they were young and were together for ages. The visa thing probably helped them get married but I don’t get fake relationship from them. (Probably am naive, isn’t her family really rich?)

Fair, the girlfriends are definitely ridiculously suspicious-seeming (as are Gio's) but it could also just be desperation for tabloid headlines.

As far as I can remember, the poster/s who first posted the rumours of Neil and Katya's marriage being a green card + bearding situation, characterised it as a marriage of convenience where both knew what the arrangement was, not that he was gay and tricked her (or that she tricked him to get the green card.)

Something definitely seems odd about it all, but who knows, maybe it's as simple as they're both a couple of oddballs. Most likely, we'll never know for sure.

I think there was/still is genuine affection between them (didn't one of Neil's girlfriends go to the tabloids complaining that he always wanted to hang out with Katya ), but they always struck me as more of a friendship/marriage of convenience that anything else

I don't really know, but I imagine it's not unheard of in the dance world because of visa issues etc?
