Fara is probably signed up for commentary and or punditry for the World Cup on November/December same with Jermaine Jenas who I think would probably be the sort the show would want. The winter World Cup really screwed with what footballers they could ask.

Exactly: advance-record the pro dances, do a few musical guest performances, a bit of stuff on ITT, turn up to the studio on a Saturday night - as an hourly rare it probably works out really well.

I never understand the idea that all of the pros are desperate for a partner and/or desperate to win. Even the benched pros are banking a decent fee without having to do much, and compared to the average dancers’ income/former-pro earning potential they’re doing pretty well out of it.

I’m sure getting a celeb/winning is nice. But just earning a reasonable living is nice too 🤷‍♀️
It all helps keep the name recognition for stuff like dance classes and lessons and panto and tours an the like.

True, but I think people like them are more competitive than the average person. Even the dumb games they play on ITT segments, and stuff like ping-pong games they post on their instas, they do seem to really want to win.

I'm sure they're not crying into their pillows every night when they don't, but I imagine most of them do at least want to get to the final whenever they have a chance.

I felt bad for Tony yesterday but I can't help but wonder if we'll ever get a footballer who can dance. They've won abroad but none have even seen a final here. Alex Scott & Robbie Savage were the best ones, around average.

it is strange that a footballer has never been to the final when two cricketers have actually won! i think more than one rugby player has made the final too (or is it just matt dawson?) - we need to a breakdown of the most successful profession on strictly 🤣

I never understand why the boxers are so tit on Strictly. I always assumed they would be half decent because having good footwork is part of being a boxer lol

I wouldn't say that's necessarily because any of them can dance. The ones I remember from DWTS Australia were bloody awful, but were carried there by the audience vote, with the judge's eventually giving up and giving 9 and 10s just for not falling over. I vividly remember the first season I watched when I was about 12, I was absolutely infuriated at the injustice of the best dancer by a mile being continually nitpicked and dragged over the coals for having had a few ballet lessons as a child, while everyone fell over themselves to praise the clunky AFL player for managing to stay upright. If I'm being generous I could say his showdance had maybe two dance steps at the start and otherwise was literally just him slowly plodding around the floor, waving his pro over his head. I will never be over it, I am still fuming #JusticeForArianne 😂

Was that the one Natalie Lowe won with?

I think the problem is that the footballers they’ve managed to wrangle are mainly the big units. They need a nippy one like a Michael Owen or a Stevie Gerrard.

The cricketers have the values of spacial awareness, lightness of foot, balance and co-ordination.

Matt Dawson was lucky that he met Len in peak SPORTSMAN mode and had Lilia backseat driving.

i know! i always feel like anthony ogogo could have been decent but i seem to remember him coming into the show already having an injury (i could be thinking of someone else though!) - they’re never as light on their feet as you expect them to be 🤣

i would pay actual money, my own money, to see michael owen on this show 🤣 you’re right though, it’s always the big defenders that they seem to get.

it’s similar with rugby, matt was small and quicker, whereas the kenny logan/ben cohen/gavin henson types were only great for lifts really!

thinking of rugby players on strictly has made me remember gavin henson greeting his own toddler daughter with “oh hiya, alright?” when she came into the training room 🤣

He had a broken collar bone.
It’s very hard to train and dance with one hand in the pocket at all times

Gavin and Katya were one of the best partnerships Strictly has ever given us :D

Austin Healy got to the final as well didn’t he? Can’t remember now how far Gavin Henson got but I remember Kenny Logan getting further than Gabby which was ridiculous!

i was trying to remember if austin did this or dancing on ice! i was getting him confused with kyran bracken 🤣

i’m sure gavin h made it to the semi finals but my only real memory of him on the show was nearly dropping his partner from a great height doing a weird sitting lift that i haven’t seen since!
