So the Rose/Gio shippers are convinced, thanks to an insta video, that Gio is in the Maldives with Rose (she is there on hols with her friend/interpreter Tobi). I am pretty sure that the pros are all in rehearsals at the moment. The launch show being postponed doesn't give them a week off - it was already recorded and they have that fortnight to train with the celeb. A winning argument was that
Lauren, Arduino and Luba were all out together and clearly not rehearsing

It seems like the Queen’s grandchildren are taking part in the vigil tomorrow night, so it’s actually worked out quite well as I would imagine this will take priority over whatever was meant to be shown.

At the moment, I'm going to put it down to extreme enthusiasm for Strictly and give him a chance...

Richie's poses in the shoots just screams OTT, not to mention his VT. I think he might be my break contestant as well but TBF, I kinda like having someone that annoys me in the cast, would be a bit dull if it was 15 nice celebs.
He's definitely Julien 2.0 but at least Julien lucked out with having Janette as a partner who seems to get on with everyone. Can you seriously imagine him with someone like Aliona or Ola? Or if same-sex pairings were a thing then, could you have seen him with any of the male pros from 2013? James, Brendan, Artem - no chance.

Whereas Richie is with Gio. I just cannot for the life of me see them together. Probably Gio's earliest exit yet because I can see a lot of the journey pairings gaining traction with the public vote (Helen & Gorka and Ellie S & Nikita to name two) and even if Gio teaches him to a competent standard, that doesn't mean much if people don't take to Richie and don't vote for him. You have to be really high up the leaderboard to avoid the dance off when not getting the votes and I'm not convinced Richie will place high enough.

I agree. Richie looks a bit gangly and uncoordinated in the short bits of dancing he's done.
He also comes off the back of a very good male same sex pairing, so people will be looking to compare his partnership to J&J and it's bound to be a bit disappointing.

I don’t know if Gio would mind an early exit this year. Strictly is great for a dancer because it’s regular income but he strikes me as being super ambitious (with a very high opinion of himself) and he’s been there for a while now. I’m sure his tours always do quite well, too so I can see him wanting to branch out.
Depending on how his tv show with Anton goes, that might be the start of him becoming more mainstream and well known to people outside of the Strictly fan base.

Gio does do well with tours but that could dwindle if he were to leave the show so I wonder what his future on the show will be. He'll never get another Rose again.

As well as being a very good teacher, Gio is expert at creating a narrative around his partner's journey. With Ranvir and Debbie it was all about a woman's confidence. With Rose, obviously, it was adapting to her disability, his own personal 'transformation', plus showmance. So I can see him out there talking about being the first ever straight male to partner a man on SCD, what that means for contemporary masculinity etc (as well as all the stuff about how he will have to change his teaching methods again). Whether that is enough if people don't warm to Richie and/or he's tit, is debatable. Michelle, after all, was popular and quite good, but one duff dance and she was gone

This is true. I personally get bored of his “storytelling” though and can see right through whatever narrative he’s trying to create (although I did really like his partnership with Rose). He strikes me as being insincere, or always playing a part but I know he has his die hard
Not that I dislike him at all but he’s very transparent imo.

I suspect the Zoe ball radio 2 audience will see Richie through a few weeks. The overlap with the strictly voting audience will be so much higher than Tyler’s audience for example

As much as I enjoyed his partnership with Rose, I always thought it a bit odd that his fans loved the narrative of Rose softening him and now he's a changed man - because that was pretty much saying he was a bit of an hole before?
He has a 'schtick' of being a bit cold and strict and not really showing much of his real life personality, but I don't really know how that will suit him post-Strictly. Apart from continuing to be a bit of a pantomime version of himself on various panel shows. I do find him entertaining on Strictly, but just can't picture him being a sparkling TV personality outside of it. I know Oti's presenting skills aren't amazing, but she does have a very warm, infectious, sincere personality which puts her in a much better position I think

But that was also exactly the narrative that was used with Ranvir (albeit less intense as obv Rose was very different). I remember a whole ITT segment about how he had to change his teaching methods with Ranvir as he was destroying her confidence and then she #blossomed, and he went on about how she had transformed his attitude to teaching. (His fans, however, don't want to acknowledge that he ever was close to any of his previous partners).
On Dan Walker's insta he has a video of him reading his audiobook, where he recounts a whole conversation with Gio where he said that till Rose came along 'every year on Strictly was the same for me as a professional. Rose reinvigorated my love of Strictly...You teach a waltz, it's a waltz. Not with Rose. Everything is better. She made me fall in love with the show and with teaching again'. While this is nice, it feels a bit crappy for his former partners (but I guess it also shows we should never believe the gushing hype from any pro during a series! It's (nearly) all PR, baby!
