If they did lean into showmance my guess would be because it was a ruthlessly competitive year where the top 4 would all be worthy winners, they were fighting two big ‘stories’ in John and Rose, and musicals came not long after Rose & Gio’s couple’s choice- they would’ve seen the buzz around that and them and maybe just thought playing into the rumours a little would give them extra visibility.

Yeah, I can see why they (and presumably the producers too going by that VT) thought it was a good idea to ramp it up a bit. It was more the inclusion of AJ's family that made me think there might have been something in it. Turns out I need to be even more cynical 😆

Oh god, the Mollie and AJ 'KISS KISS KISS' thing was perhaps the most toe-curlingly cringy moment ever on Strictly 😆🥴

It was defo weird! The family VTs were interesting last year- AJ had everyone, Rose’s boyfriend made no appearances (not saying he should have at all) which fuelled shipping as he could be erased/seen as not supportive. John seemed to get it pretty good- a couple of short and sweet appearances by his fiancée.

Notable mention on VTs also goes to John saying ‘I’m not really a Mary Poppins fan’ and then having to watch a message from the cast and the lady in the pub that yelled ‘I’M WET!!’. Oh and Ed Sheeran doing a half-arsed good luck message for their Tango and Gio leaping about screaming and yelling ‘shut up!’ like an 8 year old who had just been told he was going to Disneyland 😆
 
I do agree that AJ maybe thought that there was something there. The whiplash change from him FT-her from his hotel full of rich old ladies on NYE to them basically never interacting again publicly once he got with Nadiya suggests either she misunderstood things or they were flirting and he then cut it off.

The media were sneaky there as well though … there were at least 2 occasions when they published pictures of Jay and Aliona insinuating stuff … when they actually cropped her hubby from the shot.

Yeah, I am not going either. TBF, I don't think that their tour is even coming to London.
I am going to Johannes' tour because my brother got me a ticket for it. He also got me a ticket for the pro tour. I would go to Karen and Gorka's tour but the London venue is a trek for me. I kinda want to go to Giovanni's tour as well

You remind me, yes the AJ nephew thing when they both laughed like hyenas but never told the young chap that teacher and pupil don't snog!! :ROFLMAO: They just went along with it, tugging the tv audience along, quite contrived for votes methinks. 🙄 I think that was the same week where Claudia implored them to kiss, Kai in particular went along with that too. The scoundrel. 😮 😁

She had exhausted her usefulness then he discarded her, something he hasn't done with Kaye, but they didn't go down the romance route.

After his initial year I will always be sceptical about Kai's motives. These comments about 24/7 messaging do not really put him in a good light, he is being paid to deal with all that, he only had a couple of weeks to deal with that this series so that was obviously aimed at AJ. Were she not such a good dancer and them having such a great series he wouldn't be doing his own tour this year, he should think about that before he stirs it up a bit for click-bait in an interview.

It is time the BBC and media stopped these suggestions of a romance, it is all particularly ick, thank goodness we didn't get that this year, except for the last few seconds of the final when the Gio/Jowita get together emerged. 😲😁
 
I dunno I kinda rate Kai for finally just saying it how it is. He and AJ both ran with the showmance narrative, that the producers were probably at the back of btw, but this happens every year. It’s really not that deep. It’s not his fault that emotionally stunted adults chose to use him as a vehicle for their own insanity.

I agree that Kai has maybe been cynical here - the showmance with AJ got everyone talking, as well as their great routines. Now it feels like she has been thrown under the bus a bit in order for him to make clear that he has only one great dance romance (one that he's selling tickets to). I wonder if the shippers commenting and messaging him also contributed to this irritation.

Meanwhile LadyLav is still doing her best 'move along! nothing to see here!' routine on DS.

It is fair enough for him to admit there was never anything between them. Most of the shippers realised that during the Strictly 2022 tour. It is more the way he spoke about AJ. He made her sound like a bugaboo. He came across quite unkind.

I remember James Martin saying that he wasn’t happy to find that he was being presented as part of a ‘romance’ narrative, and that was way back in series 3, so I do think that production have always been partial to a bit of showmancing for publicity purposes, whether the pro/celeb are willing participants or not.

Anyone else remember the time Tess blatantly outed Matt & Flavia’s affair whilst Vincent just stood there like a spare part? 🙈

Yeah it defo reads like that to me but maybe she was? He’s maybe also annoyed at being painted as the bad guy by the more fervent shippers, while St AJ is seen as the wronged woman when it was literally just a showmance that they’ve both gone on to do well out of.

To be fair, in 2020 the Ranvannis had Maura come and spoil all their delusional fun, then Ranvir come out and say that during most of the series she was with the young strictly staff guy anyway. The only shippers who have won in a while are the Joe/Dianne ones.

Ranvir only got together with that young bf a good while after the show. But yes, like Rio shippers, it was I think Ranvannis who first unearthed the Maura-Gio romance and probably alerted press to it accidentally - the lesson is: don't do internet digging unless you're prepared for what you find!

I never ever saw the Joe/Dianne romance on the show, it was surprise when they got together. Perhaps it was such a slow burner that is why they are still together.

As for Kai, let's hope that not even of an inkling of interrraction went on during the series, or AJ may be tempted to hit back with a broadside. Rubbing my hands wanting the fall-out. :devilish: 😁

But even if she was a bugaboo, did he really have to say it publicly? None of us would like it if one of our colleagues publicly gave the impression that we were bugaboos. Kai really hasn't show himself in a good light. I say that as someone who used to defend him.

Couldn't think of anything worse...and I quite like Kai and Nadiya 🤷‍♀️ all seems a bit self indulgent and sickly sweet 🤢 seems they think they are the bestest, most in love Strictly couple ever and the public are just desperate to know all about it and I fairly sure that is not the case! They make a gorgeous couple, they seem happy but totally not interested in their story.
