I don't get how drag queens would work. Presumably they'd take the female role but then are their bodies really capable of producing those movements in the same way? Also it just feels a bit like having a fictional character taking part and they're such big personalities I feel like they'd take over the whole show. I don't know it just doesn't sit right with me.

i’m interested to see how the vivienne does on doi for this exact reason (for their height and build alone). drag queens have done well on dwts but shangela and courtney are both very petite and so could fulfil the female role much easier. it does, like you say, cross into having a fictional character take part but i really enjoyed watching all of shangela’s routines this season. i would be prepared for them to try it and see how it works - but your points are also really valid.

I’m still not sure on drag queens. It’s verging into pure reality star and I’m not sure strictly would go there. Mark Wright did start on towie but I think he’d moved on to a few other bits and bobs by the time strider came along. If any of the DRUK contestants had done anything other than reality show to reality show to doing the rounds on celeb editions of pointless etc I’d say there’s a better chance. Traditionally strictly hasn’t really gone in for pure reality star almost everyone has been known for a proper career such as acting or sportsman. (I know social media stars are a bit debatable)
I don't think a drag queen just has to come from DRUK or other shows like it. There's quite a few well known drag queens in Ireland and we don't have any shows like that. Panti Bliss (the drag queen on DWTS after Christmas) is one of the really well known ones over here but I don't remember her ever being on a reality show. She owns a bar (Pantibar), was a really big advocate for the same-sex marriage referendum and just LGBTQ rights in general. Rory O' Neill (Panti Bliss) was on a talk show in Ireland and called out people involved in Irish journalism as homophobes, it became a whole thing to the point that the station the show was on ended having to remove that section of the show after it aired and had to pay the people he had named. This is without people already knowing her because of her performances.

The whole point is a drag queen can be a big name without going on a show like that.

It seems to have worked on the American and Australian versions.

Drag Queens aren't only male! There are plenty of female Drag Queens too.

I wonder if the reason why TPTB are going for new celebs for the Christmas specials is because more and more previous celebs who have done a full series are just now over it. I know there are some who would be happy to do it again like Rhys but it strikes me that everyone knows what strictly is there to do in a celebs career. It gives a hearty cheque and gives you a massive boost to your career. Look at the likes of AJ from last year; way down the pecking order for British tv presenters and now she's going to be hosting the new reboot of Big Brother.

As much as a lot of the celebs would say they enjoyed their experience I think to go back for the 3 weeks or so it takes to do the training and filming the actual xmas special its not worth it when you are booked and busy doing other things; for celebs who don't fancy doing a full series its nice little Christmas cash bonus to do at the end of the year.

If its hard to book a cast of previous celebs who done the show before then thats why the TPTB will go with all new celebs for the xmas special as it will hardly be fair to have a mix of people who have done it before who have a leg up and know how to do a dance than someone who is starting from zero experience.

I really wish Vito would wear a seatbelt when he’s getting driven to work! He never wears one and imagine something happened to that beautiful face……

😬

I have to say, I'm sure they're lovely people (well, not Rosie) but it really is a very disappointing lineup so far.

Still glad Luba has a partner!
I lurk on her thread, CRW is a horror! She seems to resent CR and her kids a lot. I hope this doesn’t end up in her doing the full series.

(And talking of other threads @UnknownTattler I couldn’t sleep last night so I went back and caught up on Carrie and Joel. Bloody hell! I’m reading it with the same building panic my husband had when he thought Tyler was going to drop Dianne. This is really worrying and I’ve only got to her just coming from Disney so I don’t know what awaits me 😳)

Shirley can’t be bothered to remember/learn Jowita and Dianne’s names so I’m sure she’d end up insulting Carlos and Nancy week in week out 😬

I love Nancy and Carlos’ friendship, you can really tell how happy and proud they are of each other.
Are they dance partners? I recon they would be formidable

Is that now the 3rd pretty much unknown taking part ?
Ricky isn’t unknown to me, the others are

I kind of expect bigger names for the Christmas special as you don't have time to get to know them. Plus, (as I know I've banged on about before) it's hardly much of a commitment, time wise and far less nerve wracking being recorded in advance.

Come on Strictly!!

I can’t see anything on a quick google to say that they were - Nancy has a Wiki page but Carlos doesn’t (that I could see), they both seem to specialise in Latin. Nancy did the Chinese version of So You Think You Can Dance and Burn the Floor and Carlos is a Chinese National Dance Champion and multiple time semi-finalist.

I assumed they had known each other for yeara and that maybe she recommended him as a Pro.
