Could she do tango and waltz? or are those deemed too similar? I can't see her going near either AT or rumba. As you say, she will probably make the final anyway..

I think they would be far too similar- I don’t have the knowledge breadth of some but I don’t remember anyone being able to swing two ballroom dances for the SF, only two speciality that were pretty different. It’s been the downfall of a few ‘good at ballroom only’ contestants who haven’t been able to bring two solid scoring dances to keep them off the bottom of the leaderboard.

She could do the AT and a waltz … and have the higher scoring waltz for any dance off like Brendan did with Lisa that I’m completely over
A double dance week does take some of the jeopardy out of a duff dance.

Yeah, I teach Chinese students quite a lot and most of them choose English names. I liked it when Rhys deliberately used Nancy's Chinese name last year.

I am having PTSD flashbacks to Ranvir's beautiful waltz and.... whatever that jive was.

It doesn’t always- if the standard of the other semi finalists is high and they have a better chance of higher scoring dances- I suppose I’m thinking of Lauren who had a decent scoring Tango but faced a super strong set of dances and Ashley Roberts in the DO, or Rhys last year, who scored highly but couldn’t beat John’s best dance with his.

Ranvir was also undone by her jive (although I imagine there will be some Jamie Biscuits rage on here), despite her waltz being a good scorer. She was alongside HRVY and Maisie that were always going to smash two dances.

It’s just my pet peeve
Brendan was completely honest that they had concentrated on Lisa’s waltz (scored 39) and just paid lip service to the jive (scored 33) whereas Erin and Austin had 34(AS) and a 36 (salsa) having split the time between the 2.

Guys I don't know about you but I

It's so wrong really isn't it.
I think there are layers to it. Chinese people use different names anyway depending on circumstances and sometimes Chinese names don’t translate into English in a flattering way, or sound like an unfortunate word in English. (As well as English speakers mangling the names when reading them). I think it was a sign of their friendship that Rhys used her Chinese name as well as her English/professional name but I would certainly not insist on calling someone their Chinese name if they were introduced to me as Carlos or Nancy.

How many do they usually have in the Christmas special? Four? So far have they announced Rosie Ramsey and this lass? Just trying to work out the likelihood of a sexy open necked shirt Clive Myrie AT - it’s Christmas! Give the people what they want! And by people I mean me (and I think @Fillyjonk was it?)

Yeah, Ranvir did her waltz in the DO which got 26/30, while Jamie did his salsa which got 24. But I presume the judges were thinking about her jive which got 18 and was pretty terrible while Jamie's QS also got 24 so he was more consistent, as well as which of them might have been more entertaining in the final. And while I was a staunch Ranvir supporter, and reasonably anti-Biscuits, I had to acknowledge that Ranvir would have struggled to produce 3 dances in the final that weren't all ballroom!

I thought it was usually 6?

They've announced 4 so far I think.
