I don’t doubt Tony’s injury is real but I’m still suspicious of the timing of his withdrawal . I know people have suggested that it’s Tony being honourable and letting Tyler go through despite having higher votes from the public but why couldn’t the judges judge based on the performances from “ Saturdays” show ? That would have been kinder on Tyler and Dianne who had to listen to feedback on how to improve while possibly knowing they weren’t actually going to be dancing again , and also on the other couples ,who if we are assuming knew what was going on , were having to act like they were in jeopardy , and sitting through a longer than usual fluff chat piece when they all just wanted to get home and stick their feet in an ice bath with a large gin . And surely an honest defeat is better for a legend like Tony than a tactical withdrawal?

as up untill this weekend , Tony seemed to have a substantial percentage of the public vote, are we assuming that a big proportion of those were only voting because it was Tony , and won’t bother voting for anyone now he’s gone?
Tony's wife tweeted that the doctors had told him to take a bye to Blackpool, presumably before the show. I'm grateful he didn't as he would still most likely have pulled out and we'd have lost someone else too.

I do think that Tony’s run just came to a natural end. Its the time in the series when people look at the less able in the dance department and think ‘yeah, you’ve done well … but maybe Ellie S should really have had another week’
Add to that the fact the jive was just a pretty poor jive and Tony actually looked shattered and it was just time.

It has the potential to come across a bit samey though. It’s only a couple of weeks since the Salsa to Beyoncé.
the living my best life dancing to Beyoncé on Strictly on my birthday will just have a tweak to dancing to Destiny’s Child at Blackpool.
Destiny's Child had a slightly different sound to Beyoncé, so I don't think that it will come across as samey. If the choregrapher takes inspiration from the type of moves that Destiny's Child did in their videos, Fleur and Vito's CC will definitely have a different vibe.

Tony peaked with his Quickstep and wasn't going to improve much beyond that (possibly to the frustration of him & Katya). That combined with Ellie Simmonds' elimination and Tony getting two dance styles in a row which were strenuous on his body probably meant the fun was over and it was time to go. Who knows what they had lined up for Blackpool but I doubt he was getting a sedate Waltz, would have likely been a big number that may have been too much for him.

I’m a bit conflicted on this, because I totally get it should be the best dancer that wins, but anything that involves a public vote does tend to become a popularity contest.
And it’s also an entertainment programme; Tony was very entertaining and also pulled in a lot of viewers who wouldn’t normally watch SCD.
So i agree the time was probably right for him to bow out, but I totally disagree with people (allegedly) complaining to the Beeb and demanding he be removed from the show!

I find it absolutely baffling that they don't just have no elimination that week if someone withdraws. I'm pretty sure that's what they do on every other version. On at least one, the German one, they even bring the previously eliminated contestant back, so I just can't understand what the big deal is.

It's especially stupid they still have that rule after so narrowly avoiding disaster last year. If Ugo or Judi hadn't been able to dance the weeks they left, there'd have been a 2 person final. If AJ had gotten through instead of John, and then still injured her foot, then you're left with a 1 person final. If both Judi and Ugo had had to withdraw, again, a 1 person final, wtf were they gonna do with that? Presumably they would have had to bring the finale forward. How is skipping a whole week considered preferable to just skipping an elimination and having the votes carry over? And what if John or Rose had tested positive for Covid in the final week? Just crown the other by default?

I swear monkeys could organize better!

This is as close to Gorka I got 😭

Why is there a tupperware box of meat?

I think because there's a public vote they have to respect the vote because people have spent money on voting. So technically if he had not been in the bottom two they'd have had to respect that. But because he was they technically should have gone to the public vote but after advice Tony decided to withdraw instead thinking it would not heal any time soon. Had Tony got more votes he could have taken a bye next week but he maybe felt that was unfair or still not long enough to recover.

I think because he needed medical assistance they had to make some story up if he didn’t want it known it was his ex. Two teeth just don’t come out on their own.
I remember reading that other pros had to help him so maybe that was why they said they were with him, so it looked more believable.
It was all just very very odd.

It’s Will’s face for me 🤣🤣🤣

Maybe to explain why he was missing teeth or in case he had a black eye to explain? Only reason I can think of.

I believe they were cracked but not actually out, but anyway, yes, I suppose that could go some of the way to explaining it, but yes, the whole thing is very odd. Paramedics aren't there to interrogate you and sell your story to the tabloids, so I don't see why he couldn't have been treated and still kept the whole thing away from the public. Unless some paps did catch something or other of it so he had to make a statement? Still find it baffling why he would think "I was attacked by some randos but I refuse to file a police report" was a less suspicious statement than "oops, I fell down the stairs" or something like that.

I suppose I shall have to resign myself to being forever confused and curious about the whole weird thing. 🤷‍♀️

Aw. It Takes Two was sweet. I think Tony was baffled and a wee bit battered by the whole Strictly experience at times, but he seems to have had a nice time, and was obviously pleased to have got as far as he did.

Had to laugh at him telling Rylan the best bit each week was sitting on the It Takes Two sofa having a natter though: I think Tony will most definitely be taking it easy for the next few weeks. Can just imagine him lying on sofa, calling all his old Premiership buddies up, telling them "Yeah, do Strictly, great fun, maybe try and aim for some a couple slower ballroom dances though...and if you get that mad Katya one, tell her you're only doing one death-defying lift a week, and get it in your contract that you're not stripping down to yer sparkly boxers."

I thought Tyler couldn’t get any more cocky. Then I saw the thing where you hear what they say to each other on the dance floor and he literally tells Dianne ‘you did it’ at the end
Since I couldn't hear it, I'm gonna try to give him the benefit of the doubt that he said 'we did it' and it was just a captioning fail by the same genius who thinks the song said 'he feels me up.' 😂

Ready for the World Cup 😅.

Confirmation of extra dancers in Blackpool. Always reminds me of Gio and Georgia's Beauty and the Beast dance where Cogsworth and Mrs Potts blocked most the footwork.
