Vito is a few Proseccos deep at Luba’s birthday dinner (lots of the other pros + Rose also present). I could probably ship it, given the extreme dearth of *any* romance this year!

Someone on DS who knows JJ Chalmers saying that many celebs don't want to do the show because it's very overproduced:

I'm inclined to believe this is true but I'm surprised that they don't change this to try and attract some slightly better celebs. There's always space for a Hamza who is unknown but totally shines but I'm not sure the other more unknown signings really worked out, ditto for the ones in 2019. Are The BBC and the producers really so stubborn?

It does sound to me like stubbornness. They can’t not be aware of any of the feedback even from this series - the emotional stories could probably split people (although I’d be interested to see how many people like them as oppose to not minding them being a feature) but my husband and I and all my Strictly friends all said how fab it was to see such a beautiful group Waltz on Sunday rather than the more recent group dances. I think they’re probably trying to reacher a younger audience which is fair enough but I think they’re stubborn in assuming people regardless of their age want to see less traditional dances.

I’m loving this year - I think there’s a good mix of people and I don’t mind so much if it’s people I haven’t heard of. The one thing that will put me off before someone I don’t know competing is the Judge’s overmarking and I think that is definitely all at the hands of the Producers

It does seem to be very silly for the producers to be emulating shows like x factor and BGT with the sob stories, when they are either done or on the wane znd Strictly is still going. Why follow a failing format?. Strictly was never so overwrought with the dead grannies etc. These people are celebs. They can talk about their dead cats all day long in a magazine article if they like. Just go back to basics. Agree about the group waltz it was such a breath of fresh air.

Good luck to those celebs looking to take part in a show that ISN'T over-produced. Sorry, but I think any celeb turning down Strictly for specifically that reason is being a wee bit precious

It's one thing for us viewers to eye roll at some of the manipulation, but surely most celebs know the show has have a huge amount of control and plan most things in advance. That's kind of the price they pay really isn't it? For example, say JJ Chalmers might not have wanted to do a chitty chitty bang bang Charleston, but he also got a lot of high profile presenting gigs out of it so ...

That DS poster mentioned Caroline Quentin hating it too, but from what I remember from the interview she did about it, she said she appreciated that the show was a well oiled machine and had to do things that way

Not defending a lot of the manipulation from an audience point of view though (especially the over and undermarking) and I agree the X Factor stuff is getting ridiculous

Reading the comment about JG and his choreographers constantly hanging about the couples as they practice gives me the rage lol! I know a lot of the pros know him well from burn the floor but surely they must find him trying to take away their creative control incredibly undermining?

I was very annoyed to learn that the pros are now ‘managed’ by Gilkinson & his team in terms of the show dance choreography. 🤬

I think the thing that’s been so wearing this series is the constant misery memoirs. Every week one or more had been jigging about to A Song That Means A Lot To Them (that’s not couples choice adjacent) and spending half of the Saturday show in tears.

Okay, so I’ve a heart of stone, but I don’t watch Strictly to watch people on the therapy couch or revisit own unhappy times. I watch it to get a bit of respite from the real world and watch an ex-footballer almost drop their partner while dressed in tassly shirts to an inappropriate soundtrack.

Yeah, so much interfering! They all seem to like him - he was out at Luba's birthday dinner last night - but it all feels so samey and overproduced.

Also him saying 'people wanted me to replace Bruno!' Did they?? though at least that'd mean he wouldn't be rolling out Romeo and Juliet every week..

I see LadyLav is in that thread on DS saying 'They've ruthlessly eliminated joy, fun, romance and Arlene's 'raw sex''. Not for me, love!

Len is leaving DWTS - can we ship Shirley over and replace her please?
Or Jason Gilkeson …

Is that code for you dressed my Gio in a baggy onsie and sent him home early?
