Reading the posts here and enjoying the clips from previous series as I'm relatively new to Strictly, am I right in thinking that some of the previous pros used to argue with the judges? 😁
I remember Giovanni's first (I think?) series with Georgia May Foote. He didn't argue with Len but shook his head at something Len said. Omg Len tore strips off him - it was embarrassing to watch tbh - 'don't you stand there shaking your head at me, you' re new here' or something like that. He was really angry. Silly sod.

I'll say it again, Will has got great potential. Nowt wrong with passion either. But he wants it so much that he's forgotten to have fun. I don't feel joy watching his dances because I'm almost on tenterhooks waiting for him to start getting pissed off/get miserable.

I like it when the pros/celebs bite back when something is unjust, but he just seems to gets humpy the second he doesn't get the feedback he's looking for. And it's not just a one off. It's like he almost feels entitled to receive positive feedback and can't comprehend why he doesn't.

I think he's a prick.

same. he’s making it a very intense experience for himself and it makes him not fun to watch.

i don’t mind the pros biting back if they think something is unfair. i’m no fan of brendan or james (the two who probably argued the most!) but it was always done out of protection of their partners and if they felt technique was being overlooked or something was being said that wasn’t true. will just seems to be instantly on edge the moment anyone says something bordering on constructive.

i wonder if he’s just putting too much pressure on himself to be good. it’s not helping him in the long run though.

It's amazing how touchy some people get now with even the slightest hint of discord from a pro. I remember a huge number of people on DS (and possibly a few here too?) having a right fit over Katya saying 'whatever' at Craig's score of Adam's VW. I saw the comments before watching, obvs as I can't watch live, and when I watched I rewound like 5 times searching for this alleged extremely disrespectful outburst (a few people were even carrying on that she should be fired!) and it was literally barely audible, in a neutral as opposed to angry tone, and wasn't even while he was giving the feedback or announcing the score, but later when Claudia asked them something about the scores.

Also, gotta love the double standard in how certain pro's behaviour is judged. Didn't see anyone who thought Katya should be hung drawn and quartered complaining about Giovanni saying "forget about Shirley, I don't know what's wrong with her" to Rose after Shirley gave her Jive a 4. The week before Aljaz also made some comment about ignoring Craig's score of Sara's Rumba. Apparently it's only disrespectful if a female does it.

Just catching up after a week of nose to the grindstone with my writing. My OH has been waiting for Jayde to bring on the pathos - he predicted week 5 if she stayed in because (and excuse his non-political correctness) ‘the chunky birds always go for the pity vote when they can’t get their arses off the floor’ - quoting Judi Love and others. He watches with absolutely no filter, and is as heartless about judges, presenters and pro dancers as he is about the celebs. Even so, don’t think I’m alone in thinking the sparkle has slightly dimmed this year. New pro’s don’t seem to have much personality yet, Motsi and her poodle hair is grating a bit, Shirley’s gone all menopausal and I’ve never understood the appeal of Tess. Even the studio and staging look less special. Don’t think I’ll be carving out time every week as in previous years.

But not many of them really get that much out of Strictly really do they? They might get some opportunities they wouldn't have otherwise, but fee have built something off the back of Strictly.
I suppose it depends what they want doesn’t it … most of them are jobbing actors, presenters, retired or coming up to retirement athletes or pop people looking to recharge a career.

from last year have Ugo looking to up name recognition for Queetion of a Sport, Dan leaving BBC Breakfast and moving channels and writing a book, Rose leaving Eastenders and branching out into theatre work, AJ getting more mainstream presenting work.
Most of the ex-sprtspeople actually go on to have quite a good career as sports presenters/pundits and quite expop/actors end up in theatre shows (just not ones organised by Craig, however many jobs he offers from the judging panel).

I do think that the Name recognition a good humoured run can bring is worth money.

Slight change of subject, but I was intrigued by Shirley's son Mark Ballas on DWTS so I 'googled' him to find out more. One thing that surpised me is that he has left and later rejoined DWTS at least once. Can't see that happening on Strictly can you ? I bey AJ Curtis wishes he could go back !
I think that's really common on the American one. I haven't followed it closely except for the last couple of years, but I think pros have left then come back lots of times. I know Artem and Sharna were unexpectedly dropped one season, then brought back the next. And several female pros have taken one or two seasons off to have a baby and then come back. Louis Van Amstel just returned this season after a 10 year break.

eta: a quick Google shows most of the current/recent main pros have missed at least 1 season

Tom Chambers’ win seemed obvious to me - I think Rachel was deemed the ‘ringer’ so once Austin got the boot, it was inevitable, especially with the Showdance. Maybe some also thought Camilla was robbed with Gethin the year before.

Tom won on his wonderful showcase because in my view the audience were sick of the showdance trend of bacofoil (looking at you Snowden..) acrobatic circus tricks and turns, women wearing foofoo clinging leotards and the men having to be bare chested or in an ugly vest doing the reverse roll thing.

I hated it when in the pentiultimate show they'd have some world champion, experienced, professionals (that Joe public didn't know or connect to) doing gymnastics, dancing because in the following week final, that's what the celebs would be trying to recreate.
Just give me vaguely traditional dancing strictly!

Off my soapbox.

Although Lisa was eliminated before the Showdance. They were all stood in their showdance finery ready to go and one was knocked out. I felt a bit sorry for her initially having to do the dance straight after being ditched but as the horror unfolded it soon went away.

Pam did alright in France, 5th place after four 20-somethings including the pretty boy actor (who won), the hunky model and a Miss France. At least she finally topped a leaderboard after all those attempts across the pond and on DOI.

Apparently Selma Blair was a late casting to DWTS. She's also neighbours with her pro partner so must have been a little bit easier to entice. Though there are a lot of people in the DWTS cast who aren't that famous.
Of fair to play to pammy. In fairness my assessment was based one episode watched from my hotel bed after a day in Disney 😀😃

I only get invested in Strictly very sporadically (last one I properly watched was 2019, before that it was 2015), but I'm loving this series! I initially started watching this year for Will, but the only reason I even found this thread was to make sure I'm not imagining him coming across terribly  I get the impression that he's putting pressure on himself to get a lot of work out of this, which I think he naturally would do if he'd just chill out a bit. I also noticed that he's the only one who doesn't seem to bother following or interacting with the other contestants on social media. Could mean nothing, but it doesn't really seem in the friendly Strictly spirit! He manages to come across as aggressively competitive and above it all at the same time - I thought it was rude that he pretended to never have heard of a VW when other contestants have already done it and therefore danced/discussed it right in front of his eyes.

Despite Will being a let down, I'm sticking around for Hamza and, surprisingly, Molly. Both exude pure joy when they dance, clearly work hard without fussing, and don't take themselves too seriously. They also both seem to say thank you more than anyone else, so maybe I'm just a sucker for good manners! I hope Molly can pull some votes from somewhere - I'm not quite confident enough in Hamza's vote yet to give his away to anyone else, but if he has a good routine this week I might chuck her one or two. Will be fuming if she ends up in a dance-off before bloody Jayde.

Disappointed with Will too - as I said, he's a source mardyarse.

Re Molly, I completely agree with you. I've decided to go one vote for Molly and two for Hamza. I'm worried about Molly ending up like Rhys and landing in the dance off a lot because she isn't getting the votes, though she will obliterate anyone she's in the DO with I'd assume.
