I also think Gio might go, and IMO I sense it not being a very wise move for him. Obviously he'll be better than AJ but I can see him moving into the trashy influencer/reality world and regretting it.

Also speaking of same-sex pairings, they've finished 2nd in the UK, USA and France this year (plus 3rd in Germany). The only win for one yet is in Denmark back in 2019.

Happy for Rose and Gio but agree that was a very flat and anticlimactic final. Oh well- only 9 months till next series! Hopefully the winner will be less obvious next year and they get rid of that bloke who did the showdance choreo. I thought it was weird the pros seemed to have very little input in their showdances this year. It showed. I'm sure that doesn't usually happen??

The choreographer is very involved with the show and has been for years. I only know because he was on Claudia’s Radio 2 show recently and it was clear he had been involved over a numbers of years.

Jason has been involved as the creative director since around 2013 but this is the first time we've actually seen him choreographing the Showdances, I think he came on around the same time as Louise Rainbow. I think the Rainbow/Gilkison combination are the reason James Jordan left since he mentioned that things changed a lot in his last series. I wish they'd let the pros have a bit more creative control.

Interesting. I don't remember them being told in training before 'this is the theme of the dance. It's gonna be like this, this and this' though. From what we've heard about AJ's it sounded like it was going to be a similar vibe as well. There's normally a lot more variety! Maybe he's having an off year 😅

There’s definitely been other choreographers involved in the show dances before. I remember Jenny who choreographs the Charlestons choreographing quite a few. This seems like the first year that Jason has taken creative control of them all and I’m not convinced it worked. I was an emotional mess throughout Rose and Gio’s show dance but I think I’d have been like that at the point if they’d done the Macarena for 90 seconds!

Gilkinson has been involved as lead choreographer for the show overall for ages now (and as far as I’m concerned he’s where the rot started to set in as he brought in loads of his favoured dancers from Burn The Floor and So You Think You Can Dance, along with the heavy-handed themes and gimmicks/props), but they’ve never been quite so blatant about showing his involvement in the show dances.

I don’t know to what extent he’s been involved in the show dances in the past, but I thought both were poor tonight, and were typical Gilkinson ‘random mish-mashy, lifty wafty’ crap. I didn’t spot his trademarks all over the show dances last year or the years before that, so hopefully this year will turn out to be a short-lived experiment.

Has it ever came out how much contestants and pros earn for Strictly? Whether they get a base fee and then X amount for going so far or just a fee? etc etc, and then the judges?
This is all based from an article I found last year and I’m not sure how accurate it is but these are rough figures.
The celebs get a flat £25K for signing up and the opening three/four weeks. This then rises to £40K till around blackpool. It then rises again to £70K for the semifinals and the winner is receives £100K.

Most of the pros are on £50K for the series. Although it’s rumoured some more established pros (such as anton when he was still dancing) get £65K. The pros also receive an additional £40/50K if they do the associated strictly tours (January tour/pro tour) and cruises. Their own individual headline tours can net them another £20K+. So once you factor in all their work(including any social media work/additional tv work and other ventures such as dance classes) for a year they’re each bringing in six figure salaries.

Judges are all on different amounts as negotiated by their agents. They’re all on somewhere between £100-£500K which is wrong if you ask me. The pros might not be short of a few quid but they do all the bloody hard work.
