Superb new post by LG - and not from here. I think it is credible. He says that morale is now very low at ECC and questions are being asked of management and leadership becuase ... I quote: "Everyone is fuming about how Simon and Kirsty managed to cream £500k off of the council at a time when it was looking to save money"

Evidently at least one member of staff has resigned.

Couple of things worth mentioning/repeating that make things even worse for ECC:

1. This had evidently been brought to their attention years ago - in this context continuing to pay Harris seems unforgivable but so too are the lack of repurcussions for the staff concerned - in fact O'Callaghan managed to get a move and a promotion out of it

2. Just heresay this - those on the inside will know better - O'Callaghan was being directly line managed by the Chief Executive at the time. Yes, The poundshop David Brent Gavin Jones - who plays his guitar on stage at staff conferences

He is likely sunning himself somewhere - maybe he's gone to live Thailand too (keep up, that's where Ian Robinson, Simon's former business partner evidently now lives)

You know the 3rd person who was a director in SocialKind? She’s based in Amsterdam and has been for a long time. I suspect she is an old mate of KOC. Why would you hire someone who doesn’t even live in Essex and give them a director job title unless you had an existing relationship?

I would like ECC and the NHS organisation which has since hired KOC to really be exposed for this tit.

I don't know - I think so - but I think she's likely been out of it for a while. But of course, if the council passed money on to a contractor and any third parties benefited then the relationship between them and the commissioning officer and the manner in which that conflict of interest was documented, considered and managed, needs to be part of the accountabilities to which ECC - through the involvement of the press and members - most likely the opposition - has to be secured. If the commissioning officers themselves benefited, directly or indirectly - then they will be in big, big trouble and rightly so.

Hopefully LG can be punting the disgruntled staff he has heard from in the direction of a national, senior, curious and interested journalist - and not, being as kind as possible, the YTS trainee from Essex Live. Although to his credit, he was the first one to publish so that's a feather in his cap.

She was, apparently, linked in to some Facebook Power Admins UK group, which Jon Morter was also involved with. ECC became the first local government body partnered with FB. there's a photo of the three of them (JM, Amsterdam and KOC) all together on stage at some event talking about local groups and community outreach or whatever

Like you, I don't think he deliberately set out to steal money from the fundraisers, as the value to him was the publicity. Being disinterested and totally incompetent when attempting to run a charity isn't a crime. It should however mean that people choose to donate to better run ones.

Arnt you supposed to register charities though? Any dumb arse can open a 'go fraud me' and claim to be raising fund anything then pocketing it

I really don't buy the "oh his hearts in the right place, he's just disorganised"- how many times has he been "disorganised" with fundraisers he sets up and quickly moves on from? This is not Simon's first rodeo. And I will post this until I'm blue in the face, who does he think he is to invite non-charities to just tap him up for one of his 'microgrants' from money people have donated in good faith?

He knows exactly what he's doing, he's not a loveable oaf.
 
Its absolutely infuriating. I hope all the FBPE lefty-types who were probably his biggest fans who would rail against VIP lanes, fast track contracts, Tory cronyism etc feel very stupid right now. I also hope he can't walk down his own street without hanging his head in shame - ripping off taxpayers in your own borough is shady tit.
