From the Essex County Council statement:

“The engagement levels the council achieved through ECVA and other social media channels managed by Simon Harris during the pandemic period were far in excess of what the council would usually have expected during a ‘normal’ period of operation”

Sorry I don’t have time to peer review my findings but surely the ‘excess engagement’ was because everyone was sat at home refreshing FB/Twitter/TikTok given that was one of about three things we were allowed to do at the time? My screen time went up to double digits! How can they claim that was Simon’s doing! These people are useless.

There's an angle we haven't mithered about, although whether the ECC business he was mixed up in is "Political" is debatable. But the mixing between his account and the ECC ones is weird. Think it's probably more something the other way (having a mouthpiece who is not politically neutral, I mean)

Yeah it’s a carefully finessed statement.

So even if we accept “increased engagement” - so what? What are the actual benefits to residents of Essex that flow from this “increased engagement”? And if there are indeed any actual benefits, could they have been achieved by spending a lot less than half a million quid?

“We increased engagement” sounds like the kind of thing that some sap would say on a Dragon’s Den pitch about their TikTok hits or Insta followers, shortly before Peter Jones asks them how many products they actually sold as a result of that “engagement”, and they look at their feet and mumble “sixteen”.

100% this. And also - so what? Why does that make it worth half a million pounds of public money?

ETA: sorry, I see @SendReceive said the same thing far more intelligently already

So now he’s skulked off, how much baby milk money has he got, and what’s happened to it? It’s not like he can post for people to get in touch for a “micro grant” and nobody else seems to be taking over…just sitting nice and safely in his bank account accruing interest?

£24,018.68 remains unaccounted for, by my latest crunching of donations minus what he claims to have dished out as grants/given to Feed (and calculating the GoFundMe fees they'd take off the top)

That's more than my turnover on the 22/23 tax return I finally completed yesterday. I worked really, really bleeping hard for that (and have to pay tax on it now). And this is just an extra bit of pocket money for him.

Yes that was the only thing worrying me. Whilst Fatty was online he was *slightly* accountable for that missing money. Now what?

Imagine how pissed you'd be if you were the person who ran the ECC social media accounts normally. Probably paid max £30k p/a doing it as part of other comms stuff and your employer bungs hundreds of thousands at some local "comedian".

If the work for Suffolk CC was of a similar nature then they got an absolute bargain for £25k (and really highlight that something went wrong in Essex)
