I think there are too many main characters missing without explanation. All of a sudden they either die/divorce/fall out and none of it is shown on screen? Just seems like really weak storylines.

Especially as Steve is Bradys dad so would he just never be shown? Unless it's dropped in like "yeah I'm free for drinks this weekend, Brady will be with Steve"

Explaining the absence of Big & Samantha with an affair between the two would be an insult to the characters, the show and the audience.
without Big or Samantha or Steve.... what’s the point? They are 3 of the central characters to the whole history of the show.
yeah exactly, I wonder if they replace them with other people? i.e. put them in different relationships/get them back with past people? I will watch if I can but do not have high hopes

but thye haven't really done anything much since have they? I am probably wrong, but I haven't seen any of them in anything I can think of recently

That's true, SJP did a few things, and the Miranda actress was in a movie or TV film.
But I haven't seen Steve or Big in anything either. So why don't they want to do it?

Chris Noth was in The Good Wife for years, he has a new show and just looking at his IMDB, he appears to work a lot.

David Eigenberg has been on Chicago Fire for 183 episodes, according to IMDB, and appeared in its sister shows, so he’s been busy too.

I actually think Kristin Davis has had the worst post-SATC career of all the main characters. Both SJP and Kim Cattrall had hugely underrated shows that I enjoyed a lot (Divorce for SJP and Sensitive Skin for Kim), Cynthia Nixon ran for NY Mayor and has popped up as a guest star on a lot of great shows (30 Rock, The Affair, Hannibal etc). As I said, Chris Noth seems to work a lot, as does Evan Handler (Harry).

In comparison, Kristin Davis hasn’t worked that much and seems to have mostly done straight-to-streaming cheesy romance movies. There were always rumours she could be difficult to work with, although I’m just wondering if she was very much typecast as Charlotte and now only gets asked to play happy housewife or hopeful, innocent romantic type roles?

I think they will do Sam and big having an affair and Miranda couldn’t forgive Steve’s affair or he cheats again. Then it’s Carrie and Miranda sitting in a cafe wondering how this has happened to them and how can they be back where they were. Not happy big isn’t in it as to me he is satc but i would have got over it but without Samantha big and Steve it’s just not right

Even if Samantha is abroad it would have showed her there or on the phone or something, the only way I think it would seem real is if they fall out of kill her off

Will watch Divorce next! Thanks for the inspiration

To be honest after the tit show that is the 2nd film I can’t blame any of the actors for not wanting to go back!

I wonder why the 2nd film was so tit. It started promising with the gay wedding, the nanny drama, I thought the kiss with Aidan was good... It was the doomed trip to Abu Dhabi that messed things up I guess. They would have needed another strong storyline.
SJP suddenly doubting her marriage, Samantha falling in love with a player, Miranda thinking that the nanny has an affair with her husband, Cynthia's career change and doubts around giving up the big salary but also the misogynistic environment... Sprinkled with a few fashion events in glamorous locations for the nice setting.
All in NYC, no trip abroad.

For me the problem was mostly that they had the most amazing lives, no money troubles, happy relationships (or happy being single in Sam’s case) and they just had to create drama where there wasn’t any. Bloody Carrie spent years trying to get Big to be with her and when he was happily settled she wanted to live a single girls’ life with him as arm candy. He’s worked hard, let him watch telly in bed FFS. And Charlotte, a stay at home mum with a full time nanny can’t cope? Ridiculous. Then add in the stereotypes and somewhat racist view of the Middle East. Samantha not respecting local laws, really? A savvy PR woman of the world? And the panic at being charged for the hotel. Just sell a few pairs of shoes and you’d cover a week there 🙄 I had to fast forward the karaoke and the awful end bit where Samantha throws condoms around and the women in the bazaar have designer clothes on. Awful.
Sorry - got a bit carried away there 🤣

Omg the karaoke scene 😬😬😬

Big was in the Netflix show about the unabomber which was good - he played one of the FBI bosses he wasn't the main character tho.

Did Steve have a minor role in one of the Chicago shows - Chicago fire maybe? I'm sure he worked in the bar in that too but I only saw a few eps so not sure how much he was in it.

Maybe they are just over SATC now?

Divorce was great! Created and written by Sharon Horgan. A fair few ex SATC actors turn up in it. It’s quite dark sometimes and the characters unlikeable, but it’s supposed to be that way.

Although saying all that, for SATC fans it’s probably worth watching for SJP’s character’s clothes alone. Not at all Carrie-like but still very stylish in a different way. Never seen so many covetable coats in my entire life!

Divorce was great, especially the main male lead (Thomas Haden Church). Had some laugh out loud moments watching it which is rare these days.
