I think it’s interesting that Miranda was bemoaning the lack of sex in her relationship with Steve to Charlotte. We know she has a crush on Che so it looks like she might use that as an excuse, this will make her a huge hypocrite as she went ballistic as that was mentioned when Steve cheated on her.
I wonder if we’ll see Steve mention her drinking, maybe he hasn’t noticed as he’s around people drinking all the time.

Just realised this means we’re going to have to endure a Miranda and Che sex scene - lord help us all

i don’t think we will see Steve again, thought he was only in 2 episodes?

really interested to see how aiden comes back into it

Am I the only person who clearly remembers the episode where Miranda pretends to be lesbian to get ahead with her boss at a work function, kisses her date in the elevator and feels nothing? Because watching Miranda have a sudden revelation about her sexuality after they made such a point in the original series that her androgynous look doesn't automatically mean queer is really hurting my head

lets also not forget what a big deal they all made about Samantha when she started dating Maria!

this whole storyline doesn’t seem true to the miranda character, its like they have replaced her with a moody depressive Cynthia nixon.

That’s exactly what’s happened. The character has been subsumed into Nixon who is highly political and woker than woke. I fully believe that she hated (or now hates) the original character of Miranda and really does feel that she needs to do endless penance for having played such a white cis able heteronormative binary zzzzzzzz 🙄 character. It’s the only thing that explains her willingness to allow the character to be so utterly trashed and humiliated.

I was watching Emily in Paris last night & whilst it’s a show about a privileged American white woman swanning about abroad and it’s not exactly thought provoking stuff but the supporting cast is diverse without being tokenistic or extreme or bringing in every teeny tiny minority edge case for points (eg trans).

The comments saying it’s like they’re paying penance is perfect. The thing is they’re not even doing these side character’s stories justice, the comments on all the SATC socials are SO anti Che and “woke” so it’s not as if they’re educating that older millennial / gen x audience or engaging them in these identities’ issues, if anything they’re actively alienating them and you see it on this thread too! It makes you wonder who it’s for? Cos the woke NB Insta huns certainly won’t care for the show?!

Yes it’s weird. You would think that the audience is women (and gay men) who were in their 20s - 40s when the original series aired, people who in some way identified with those characters, of a similar sort of age dealing with all then issues of working and meeting guys and having sex and that combination of “being independent” while still trying to meet “the one”. If you weren’t there for the original series I can’t see why you’d be interested in this one, I mean surely younger audiences couldn’t give a tit about these characters and their (at this point) unbelievably privileged lifestyles?

Anyway I’m out too, I find the whole thing quite hideous and couldn’t give a tit about them either.

I've been wondering this too, and I'm watching their 'roundtable' and it's telling that Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis were taken on as executive producers. Too many cooks springs to mind. It's now reported in the press that Cynthia refused to take on the role again unless there was more diversity in the show - but it could have been done in a way that we didn't have to see Miranda Hobbes' original character destroyed to make way for Cynthia's life story. She refers to the old series being 'tone-deaf' in parts, but what about Charlotte on a frantic search-for-a-black-friend for her dinner party? Really...?

I think it's a cash-grab for the writers and producers and an ego stroking for the cast.

I’m not against seeing black/queer/NB characters on screen (like some of those Insta comments sound ngl 😬) but why didn’t HBO do a spin off like the Carrie diaries for Rose and her friendship group? Or all of the second gen? It would make more sense for them to be meeting trans/NB people and it retains the integrity of the original characters. Also means we don’t have to deal with 50% of screen time being randos we don’t care about?!

And HBO could use ad space in the show(s) to point towards their more diverse content - which I doubt there’s much of tbh - or do some sort of one off special with the case discussing the show’s failings back in the day and how they’re resolving to do better now but ultimately it’s still a show about rich white women so will never be perfect.

Tbh writing this all out it just never should have come back at all. It was brilliant then - KC was right it didn’t need to be brought into 2020!
