It’s really weird how they’ve written it that they’re all brand new into their lives. It would’ve made more sense surely that they had met these people in the 10 years since the movies? I mean, Louise Carries assistant from the first film was never made a big deal of in the first film like they are now!

That’s exactly what’s happened. The character has been subsumed into Nixon who is highly political and woker than woke. I fully believe that she hated (or now hates) the original character of Miranda and really does feel that she needs to do endless penance for having played such a white cis able heteronormative binary zzzzzzzz character. It’s the only thing that explains her willingness to allow the character to be so utterly trashed and humiliated.

My problem with this reboot is everything is an "issoooo" so we end up with "nonbinary trans self indentifying whatever" instead of a podcast host that is a multilayered person with their own job worries, friends, families fitting into an established friendship group. The characters in the show are now a series of box ticks on a diversity form rather than people first that are slowly revealed to us, the viewer. Also the bleeping hats, Christ on a pushbike. I hope Kim Cattrall is laughing her well toned arse off.

I have been watching it because I used to love SATC, but meh. I was gutted when mr. Big died, he was my crush all those years ago and I thought it was well done. Cant beliebe what a rubbish send off Stanford got, especially since the poor man died in RL. He went to Japan, the end!
Love Che, just because I loved the actress ( actor?) back in Greys anatomy. Back on topic, is it tit, yes, will I continue watching it, also yes. Its one of those thing I have to see what will happen.

Also why are they trying to split up Anthony and Stanford? They always argued, they never liked eachother and they were always polar opposite! Even when they got married they had agreed to an open relationship etc so why break them up because they're arguing "too much"? That's literally the basis of their relationship - could have been more creative

This is it, we’re all watching out of loyalty to the original series but maaaan are they stretching that loyalty. It’s quite insulting that they thought they’d put out this patronising, apologetic tit and that we’d be okay with it

And would they not realise that “OMG you’re a PROFESSOR??? with BRAIDS?!?” was a pretty appalling attitude to have in 1998, let alone 2021? Again it’s like they’ve been dropped into these scenes from a spaceship with no knowledge or experience gleaned from the intervening years of living in one of most liberal and elite societies in the world.

Surely Carrie could’ve done a voice over saying ‘and just like that it was time to bid farewell to the other leading man in my life… and him move abroad.. but it still be a poignant goodbye to Stanford?’

I know I keep banging on about it but it was just the worst way for him to be written out. I honestly thought we were going to get an early onset Alzheimer’s storyline because of how different he seemed as a character but come to think of it, maybe his whole ‘personality transplant’ was as a result of his actual IRL illness?

The only character I can tolerate now Is Anthony.. he's the only one who seems the same. I like Charlotte's black mummy friend too just because she is so beautiful I can't help staring into her eyes lol.

I totally agree with you! I know the writers/producers etc probably wanted to make everyone happy by being more inclusive but they have pretty much always missed the mark. This time they ticked EVERY.SINGLE.BOX. Which was overkill for me. And ditto on the cringeworthy way Miranda acts around her professor. Like did they learn nothing from the last decade or were all the women just kept in a time capsule that they only crawled out of this year? I live in NY and as diverse as it is, there are certainly people who are incredibly sheltered and stick to their own safe bubble, but to me, that fits more into Charlotte's personality and not Miranda, who was a highly educated partner at a law firm who likely came across all different types of people through her career. Not to mention, Steve owning a bar would have also drawn a diverse crowd and coworkers which Miranda would have surely interacted with through the last 10+ years. Also, these women are in their mid 50s yet they're making them out to be senior citizens who have zero social interaction with the outside world.

To balance out the negativity, I will say that I'll continue watching bc like most of us here, it's like a comfort blanket we're all familiar with. Re: the fashion. I don't always love the ladies' outfits but collectively speaking, I enjoy the whimsey and over the top nature of it all. I enjoy the colors, textures and volume that don't necessarily make sense in the "normal world" but visually speaking, it's fun to watch. There's plenty of shows and movies that depict characters who dress normally, and I don't need that from SATC/AJLT. (Although the same cannot be said about Emily In Paris lol. But more on that in that show's individual thread.)
