She said, years ago, that she couldn’t be active on her own forum without being attacked/causing a ruckus. I remember thinking at the time that was not, as far as I had seen, true, and was quite insulting to the vast majority of members.

Now it just seems part of the wider pattern of her total intolerance to any challenge or disagreement with her. Her FB group, BTL on the Guardian and forum have all been vital in building her profile and sourcing content/ideas. But she opts out and disses her own followers if they dare to have different opinions or question her.
Thanks, that's interesting. Like you, the impression I got from the forum - of which I've been a member - is that it's pretty adoring of SH (not that she's referred to much in any of the discussion these days).

Can you remember where she said it?

Here's a 2014 Evening Standard interview (got it from the actual wiki page, so not "deep research") where she does her opinion again. I thought she came across as prissy, judgmental, and quite unlikeable in this piece, although I can't tell what's lifted from the author-y tome and what's her just spouting to the journalist

Oh dear - the Twitter trolling mention hasn't aged well. And the description of SH and her twitter chums being like 'the cool girl gang in the year above at school' does now sound distinctly 'Mean Girls'.

How do you write about beauty with integrity then SH? I’m all ears

“Some apply it to anyone who disagrees with them, which is not the case ... " Present Sali should maybe have a listen to Past Sali
"I wouldn’t mind so much if it was just lunatics going at me ..." Now I'm just confused, because aren't we all "mentally disordered"?
I still am completely baffled as to why she did the video in the first place knowing full well her own past? Did she seriously believe her own line that it was 'years and years....wasn't anywhere near as bad...and she and Dawn are now friends'?
Even more bizarre is that I recently read all of her threads here from the beginning sort of to see them through fresh eyes. So bloody tame (and a relatively quiet thread compared to others on Tattle) and the whole tone was mild exasperation at worst. Hardly any mention at all of the Dawn, Esther or Lauren Luke stuff, I suppose because we focussed on her work, mainly the column. It was only when we felt the need to defend ourselves that that stuff was produced. And the Giles Coren video too. So odd to shout 'bully' when you should be so grateful your own past is still relatively hidden.

And the mental health slurs just keep grating terribly don't they.

I'm so sorry - are you getting support from anywhere? Where are you in the country and we can help see if/what can be useful for you? X
No help currently, even the police seem to think that I just need some counselling and I’ll be grand.
Sorry, didn’t mean to derail. But I’m just so tired of people having no accountability, you know? I’m in Bristol, I don’t even care if Sali finds me at this point.

No, ofc derail if there is anything we can do or help it just to be a sounding board. You are so much more important than Sali!
I really hope you manage to find a supportive counsellor - any bristol residents got any recommendations?

Are you still living with him. I hope not for your sake x I’ve been there. Would like to help you even if it’s only talking.

@PopperDops not a detail at all. I am so sorry. You aren’t crazy. I know it’s so easy to slip into feeling that you are. Remember you are not. And you aren’t weak either - just in case you feel you are. Maintaining your sense of self around someone who is emotionally abusive is almost impossible by design.

Stay and talk to us if you can/want to and ask us if you have any questions. You don’t have to accept suggestions if you don’t want to and remember you can vent as much as you like without taking action. It takes a long time to get the strength up and part of that journey is sounding things out to anyone uou trust.
