At least Ruby will fit right in. Of the bits I'd glanced at so far, it's been a parade of randoms either overdramatically or listlessly reading from a page (and still flubbing their words). None of them seem to have memorised their sections. Half of them might as well be reading technical manuals for airplane engines. If these are supposed to be the most passionate Milton fans, I dread to think what the bored ones look like.

I'm doing a seminar on Paradise Lost at uni right now, and I'm loving it. It's way iut of my literary comfort zone, but I thought I'd challenge myself a bit this semester. This, however sounds very off-putting!

I watched Ruby's Milton reading out of interest. I don't think she had the time wrong, people in the comments were asking how far behind they were running. So her poem was on at about 7pm in the end. She did well, and wore lipstick, which was a new grown up vibe for her.

I don't think the readings were bad, I don't think anyone was supposed to learn it off by heart! It wasn't supposed to be a performance, just a collective worldwide reading. I think people often do that earnest reading when it's something like Shakespeare or other sixteenth and seventeenth century poets. The language is complicated and people tend to do it quite seriously, even Stephen Fry was reading his poem in that way.

The person doing Paradise Lost - they read the whole thing out, I didn't stay for that. But the people it started with were at an American university and they were good. Rubes did well getting involved with this, and she might be working with the museum as she made a video about Paradise Lost on her instagram. All stuff for the old PhD application....

Is this Roobee graduating?

I posted it here at 7:15 pm and she had posted about it in her stories just a minute or two before that, so she was definitely off with her timing. Regardless, any smart person who wanted to promote the reading would have posted about it much earlier, with a precise time slot (they ran on a schedule).

I saw that too and I really don't get why she asks that. That is no valuable information for her (except she was searching a gift for a younger cousin or something). And if the book is for 12+ or 14 + isn't THAT big of a difference (especially if you are an adult).

It's a bizarre thing to post on every level.

To me, it screams that it's an ad for a book she got free from the publisher and she really didn't want to declare it as gifted. Throwing a plot blurb next to a promo shot of the cover on her Insta story is a dead giveaway - why's she including a plot synopsis if she's trying to solicit answers from people who have already read the book?

Her usual tactic is to pretend to read a gifted book, post a back cover plot blurb, mention descriptors or adjectives that she saw in the publisher promo material, then HOIGHLY RACKOMAND IT TYEU AVVERYWAN with no further information and no proper review (since she can't review what she never read). That's getting too predictable by now though, so she probably thought the age-old 'ask random question as an excuse to mention a gifted product as though it just came up in conversation' trick would work better.

Evidently, she couldn't think of a question that made any sense.

Does anyone know if she still works with that Holocaust Memorial Day charity who (iirc) once paid her to promote them? They’ve posted quite a controversial tweet re what happened in Amsterdam that popped up on my feed and seems to be getting a fair bit of attention, so it’s got me wondering if she’s been working with them lately or not.

I think that initial charity fiasco was the first and only time she was involved with them and I think her involvement began and ended with taking their money and posting what they asked on that one occasion.

After the backlash hit, she kept claiming for a year that she was working very closely with the HMD Trust on her imaginary school memorial project to "reinvest the money". But there was zero evidence of any work being done on that and I don't believe for a second that she had any conversations with them after taking their money. I believe she just made up a wildly unbelievable story because she hoped people would just forget about her taking money from charities. When that didn't work, she changed her story to "I JANUINELY gave the money back ROIGHT AWAY!" after a year of lies. I don't believe she ever returned the money either.

She did another Holocaust Memorial Day post shortly after, but it was just a big undeclared ad for Notion and didn't seem to have any involvement with the charity outside of Ruby probably trying to court another sponsorship deal out of them. But she got hit with another wave of criticism and hasn't mentioned HMD since.

Mental health struggles? How is possible? Childhood bedroom and twirling in fields somehow not good enough?

imagine getting a second-hand iPad from your grown ass adult daughter, complete with a pre-set background picture of you drawn by said daughter, only it looks like the work of a not particularly talented middle schooler

It's the combination of the extreme cross-eyes, receeding hairline, singular eyelash, patchy pencil-thin eyebrows, and precisely placed individual grey hairs for me. She hates her mum. There's no way you draw somebody you love like that.
