Owen Jones

OJ is horrific. He's always organising pile-ons, playing the victim, and being deliberately obtuse. He's so convinced he's "on the right side of history", that he thinks it gives him carte blanche to behave like an absolute arsewipe.

If anyone tries to call him out, however mildly, he screams homophobia.

In the last couple of years, more specifically since Corbynista Labour got comprehensively rejected at the ballot box and OJ's hoped-for Home Office job along with it, I've noticed that his brain has slowly begun to break. The trans / women's rights controversy has subsequently caused all of his grey matter to liquefy and drip out through his ears to such extent that all he is now capable of doing is being mean, hysterical and misogynistic on Twitter.

His book Chavs was offensive to me as a WC person (single parent immigrant family, mum dinner lady, to give my bona fides since lots of posh people on Left Twitter pretend to be WC these days, thankfully no one on Tattle ever does this) as it was transparently aimed at the MCs and completely misrepresented WC history and values. His other book on the Establishment was poorly researched pap that failed to take into account Establishment organisations like the BBC and Guardian which practise nepotism, cronyism and preach at people.

I am very glad to see the direction his career is taking.

Foof - I've been wanting to say all that for quite a long time lol

Well said. Don't let him wind you up though. If you knew what was going on in his head you'd be shocked/scared/horrified/. People like him are fake and desperate for validation ... by any means.

Yeah it's clear he is a deeply unhappy man. It just pisses me off because there are so many bright hard working people from WC backgrounds with plenty of very interesting and insightful things to say but they don't get platforms because they don't know the right people. This well-connected spitlick manages to keep his platform despite being a known bully and misogynist.

Yes, but those people don't NEED a platform. The people you see on these panel programs are desperate for the attention they never recieved from Mummy and Daddy during their formative years. Well-rounded, intelligent people get real jobs, in the real world ... they don't become freelancers talking shite on TV that nobody really cares about anyway. Look at ME! Look at ME! You know the types ... so dull, so insecure and sometimes, so very vindictive due to their deep self-loathing.

Absolutely. I wasn't able to articulate what offended me about his rantings, but you have. He is patronising and performative. The Hard Left have redefined the Working Class to include themselves, when most of them are wealthy, middle class and privately educated. They've probably only met a wc person who came to clean their house. The bullying, racism and sexism revealed at Channel 4 and The Guardian ( including by OJ) reveals how nasty they are, and use the excuse that they are ' progressive' to trade over people behind the scenes.

I read that it happened gradually in the 80's where some people took to claiming 'working = working class'. It seems the left ran with it. It happened with a lot of bands and artists around the next few decades too who pretended to be more working class than they work. I think Owen Jones and people like him are just the end result of it all.

As someone who is left of centre politically I think he’s a cock, and it’s him and his ilk that are everything that is wrong with the Labour Party today. As some who is genuinely from a working class background I can safely say that until they get rid of Momentum and the Corbynistas they will never be elected again. Im as angry with Labour as I am with the Tories, they should be trouncing them in the polls given party gate etc and they’re not for the reasons I’ve already stated above. What a mess this country is in.

I could have written this as well. The Tories are awful but we are stuck with them because of Momentum and Corbyn. They are still doing their best to undermine Labour now. The problem with the hard Left is that they would rather a Tory government than a Centre Left Labour government. The Tories, when push comes to shove will stick together in order to remain in power.

Cringe.
