Here's my thing (as a 'runner' who admittedly mostly walks, but hustles and has done a dozen half marathons): He did it, yes, BUT here's the thing... if he's really thinking about jumping up to the 10k, he has to really train. Not walk around the theme parks. Not walk from his table to the buffet. ACTUALLY train. I made the mistake of doing the 5k, thinking, "WOW that was no big deal" and then doing the 10k. I almost got swept. It was ugly.

I scanned the video. I'm guessing he's not signed up for Marathon Weekend Races or Princess (or I assume he'd say he was doing them next) which means he's probably going to sign up for the Springtime one(s). He's excited because, for the first time in forever (lol) he FEELS excited about something Disney.
He also probably used generous gift cards for this race and is hinting at his fanbase to help with the next ones.

I won't ever discourage anyone from doing anything that helps increase physical activity, but this isn't him having spent time training. None of those vloggers trained. They just rolled out of bed, walked a 5k in a hour+, and called it a day. THAT'S when I get more gate-keepy about running. They went for content and to post videos saying, "FIRST RUN DISNEY SINCE 2020!!!!", not because they care about health.

I'm glad I didn't see any of them on the course.

I don't know if it's been mentioned, but the fact he's still unvaxxed (as far as we know) and did this makes him even more of a bleeping scumbag. Those were tight quarters.

I’m not giving Michael credit for tit. He is a bleeping grifter and that’s all. My wife and I watched this video last night from DSNY. He thoroughly did his homework and presented some educated guesses that will probably see the light of day. I told my wife “Michael would never put in this work and that is why he fails”.

I like Jack too. Critical of Disney when warranted, but without Mikey's tantrums.

Yeah, you make a lot of good points.

It seems like all the vloggers do this (or have, at least, done one) so that's nothing new from that angle.

I think when you said that you'll never discourage anyone from doing anything that helps increase physical activity is why I'm voicing my thought that - albeit not popular 🤣 🤣 🤣 - we constantly rant about his crappy eating, his ever-expanding waistline, etc. So when he signs up for a 5K - no matter why he *really* did it - we then make fun of him for doing it, complain about how fast or slow it was, critique his performance, and then witch about his reasons. ???

In this case, I can separate the man from the activity itself. I can't stand the man. I am in favor of the activity.

(and I'm also tired of talking about it now... where's a good crappy Dave / Havoc vlog when you need it???!!! 🤣 🤣 🤣 )

I think he needed this after the rough month he had, so I'm not going to knock him as hard as I normally would. I just feel bad for anyone having to deal with his commentary during the run because that would drive me absolutely nuts - even worse than vlogging in the park because its early in the morning, a rainy morning, most likely too early for coffee or not drinking coffee before a run. At least he did some sprinting segments so he wasn't next to the same people the whole time I guess.

I wouldn't mind if someone's recording in their own space, forward looking during the run - the only thing I give WDW Couple credit for. I can just imagine MK with his arms extended to fit his head in, but at least it wasn't the entire time so kudos to that and completing the race!

I know nothing about racing but @Sunflower0 said: "... the timer starts when the first corral is released. Michael was probably in one of the later corrals so the timer would’ve been running for a while before he even crossed the start line. It’s not indicative of his time..."

Who knows?

On his race bib there’s a little s3 in the upper right corner, that denotes his starting corral. For the half there’s 4 corrals, can’t figure out if there were 3 or 4 for the 5k. But safe to assume he started near the back. And RunDisney is strict with corral hopping, so there’s little to no way he would’ve been able to weasel his way into an earlier corral.

Agreed and, fwiw, I know we all have different standards of what constitutes a 5k medal being 'earned', but I can tell you the people I saw pushing themselves really hard, even if they were doing 20 min miles, deserve that medal as much as anyone. The reason runDisney is great (imho) is it gives new people a chance to try without fear. Local runs are intimidating and even if you are someone who can do a 16 min pace, you will usually be last at local runs. That's soul crushing to someone just getting started.
Oh, and it was raining and cold yesterday. Not easy conditions and we know how well Disney's drainage system is...(LOL)

and, hey we might all butt heads on this board from time to time, but let's all not lose sight of one thing: Mike will inevitably fall back into being a crappy human being come Monday.

These races aren't cheap so I will be surprised if he pays the $100+ of his own money for the next one. It was him (PreCruise gift cards/patreon still rolling in) signing up for easy content.

There were three total for the 5k. I was in 2 and passing mile 1 when they were still launching people. I'd guess he was on course for 50 min?

Yep. You've summed up my thoughts exactly.

Mike = still crappy
Act of doing a 5K (even if walking) when he's an out-of-shape, sugar-obsessed weirdo = not necessarily crappy

Should we play a game of "WOULD YOU RATHER"?

Would you rather: Watch Mikey eat a White Castle OR do the Disney 5k?
Would you rather: Watch Mikey sit in a hot tub OR do the Disney 5k?
Would you rather: Watch Mikey play golf OR do the Disney 5k?
Would you rather: Watch Mikey wear only a towel OR do the Disney 5k?
Would you rather: Watch Mikey speculate about changes at the parks OR do the Disney 5k?
Would you rather: Watch Mikey do water aerobics wearing patriotic shorts OR do the Disney 5k?

I'd rather watch the Disney 5k, instead of ANY of his most recent videos. Didn't say it was enjoyable, just better than drone footage or him guessing the age of a gator in Celebration. I'm sure we'll get a cringe worthy video or 4, come next week!

Yup. THIS. (y)

Setting the record straight re: runDisney. Each race is held on a different day. 5k-10k-half marathon - full marathon (in January only). He wouldn't have been waiting for half marathon or 10k runners because there weren't any that day.

That being said, he still would have been waiting for a while depending which corral he started in. Usually they leave 5 minutes in between each one to spread people out. From his video he was still waiting at 5:40 am to start (5:00 start time) and appeared to start shortly after, and finished with the running clock at 1:51, so he was probably out on the course for about 1 hr 10 min. However it is clear from his videos he was mixed in with a lot of speed walkers and he would occasionally record himself running a few dozen yards, but he also stopped to wait to take pictures so the actual 'travel time' can't be discerned.

Most people who do runDisney don't do it for setting a PR anyway, its to experience running through the parks, the characters and other photo ops etc. so rather than rag on Michael for however long it did or didn't take I just commend him for actually following through.

It’s great if Michael is excited about finally getting some physical activity and making a healthy choice about how to spend his time.

But simultaneously, it’s:
1. crappy of him to run a race un-vaxxed and unmasked.
2. Super obnoxious for him to be acting like he achieved some Olympic-level feat of athleticism.

I know a 5k is nothing to sneeze at. I still remember hitting that milestone after I started running, and it was really exciting for me. But this guy is out here partially walking a 5k, presumably without preparing at all, and then talking like he’s in the same category as the people doing the half marathon. All his comments like “we have to work up to that” and “I want the half marathon medal” just give off the same gross self-centered energy as his slow-mo swimming footage.

If he becomes one of those people that claims they ran in "the marathon" it's not a good look. Hopefully he realizes there's a lot of work to doing a 10K or a half or a full. I will say there's nothing wrong with the walk-run method. I would say any first time runner should read http://www.jeffgalloway.com/training/run-walk/ and look into it.

I'm sorry but DSNY may do homework but it's not something no one can not do. It's just guesses by the theme not education.

When I did my first ever 5k with runDisney, it was a HUGE deal for me, but I didn't dare compare myself to the half or challenge runners.
I guarantee, as the day got closer, he said, "Well I do a LOT of walking so I'll be fine" which isn't wrong if you're just looking to do a duck-around 5k.
Again, I sincerely doubt he'd survive a 10k at this point or if he managed to finish without being swept, he'd be in rough shape.

More than anything, I think he wasn't excited about finishing the race. I think he was EXCITED to feel something for Disney again. He's been having such a hard go at things (which have 100% been his own duck ups so no sympathy here) that this probably pushed him back into his delusions of grander. People cheering (which he probably thought was JUST for him), lots of energy, and a physical representation of his 'hard work' (medal) most likely gave his unmedicated brain the serotonin it's been missing.

Training for a half requires discipline and focus. I think, after the end of the year, he'll drop running. He can't plan out farther than a week at a time.

I love the aerial still shots that Jack includes in his broadcasts but I agree.

I think that Jack and all these other vloggers are kind of apples to oranges in comparison.

Jack is strictly news (if not added-in w/ some conjecture) and the others are pretty much strapping a camera to themselves and walking around a park talking nonsense most days. I'm a pretty big fan of DSNY Newcasts, though I never commented as a "Waltineer" on any of his vlogs. LOL

Do you think Mikey would have dug into land studies to talk about potential future projects? I don't even think Brayden from Mickey Views would go that far.

I Google things all the time. It may appear but do I look in it no. I'm not talking about that part. Good for Jack!
