Marriage - BBC1

Never thought much of Sean Bean until recently (can never forgive his Patriot Games accent) but thought he was absolutely outstanding in the prison thing he did with Stephen Graham.

Now that was a great series, we only found out what Sean Bean's character was convicted of during the last episode iirc. Well written, beautifully acted by the cast and Bean's fish out of water experience in prison was excellent.

Yes it was the awkwardness for me. Like they were all strangers to each other, or had only recently met. I get that not all families are close, but I can't think of any I've ever seen that are that uncomfortable in each other's presence.
Cringed all the way through but I couldn't stop watching. The only time they seemed not awkward with each other was when they were all in the car coming back from the flat, having a good laugh about something? It actually felt bizarre hearing them get on well 🤣

I have watched it once but as it is on BBC1 now have been drawn in again as I didn't believe it the first time. The scene with Emma and her boss Jamie in the hotel bedroom was quite funny, the way he kind of compliments her and she dismisses it and treats him like a mother would with a child!! Him with his french fancies and his sniff of coke. o_O 'I haven't had a yellow one yet'.

Sorry O/T, but I love your user name! 🥰

The part with the Boss and her are we meant to believe they slept together, also I don’t get the husbands jealousy theirs no back round to explain it. If she cheated before I’d get it, just so random him with the bosses car. I’ll watch tonight’s episode seeming as I’ve stuck it out this far.

I took it to mean he's very insecure in himself having just lost his job and mother so is assuming the worst. He feels so running about himself that he thinks he's losing everything

I thought the last episode was slightly better. Maybe just because I'm used to it 😂
I think James Bolam was the best thing in it. That look he gave when Sean Bean was laughing with his daughter - envy and sadness that he didn't have that relationship with his own daughter.
Odd they never mentioned the wierd son from the first episode again.

I liked episode 3, Sean Bean losing it and trashing Jamie's car.
The dialogue between Emma and Jamie at the conference was good, very uncomfortable but funny.

OK, I’ve watched all 4 episodes now and whilst it was definitely different and nothing much happened as a study of human relationships I thought it very believable. You could see a lot of love within the family and the section with Jess’ box brought tears to my eyes. Absolutely hated the intro music but can see how it could indicate the chaos inside. A lot of life can be uncomfortable and people can struggle with change, was a bit worried that it would be formulaic affair territory but it was reassuringly normal and there were definitely things I could relate to.

A very odd drama! I liked Sean Bean in it but agree him and NW had no chemistry. I don’t think she was right for the part. I also don’t know why her character had to swear so much?!

I did find some parts of the final episode quite emotional though and always good to see James Bolam but it’s not one I would recommend to anyone.

I think the swearing was because everything was all suppressed inside, so the swearing was an outlet. It was bizarre though especially at the end when she told Jess her boyfriend was "a bleeping pig". I loved it, especially Sean Bean mooching around, awkwardly trying to engage with people. The constant tedium of housework, gardening & putting stuff in the bins. It was very symbolic of many marriages and the co-dependent partners. If the young girl at the gym had responded in anyway, he'd have jumped on before you could say "the ants are back". Most TV series would have gone this way, him having an affair with a young woman.

I think the weak link was Nicola Walker. Surprising. But she was the one I could see 'acting'. Even the mannered picking bits of fluff off her jacket at a meeting. It looks like she was told the brief was 'repressed and brittle' and she ran with it.

(Btw the rubbing stuff on Sean Bean's ball bag - wtf was that about 😂).

And Sean having a good scratch beforehand 🤣

I get that it's supposed to be about the mundanity of a long-term relationship but neither of them are likeable at all, Sean Bean is a bit creepy and absolutely nothing happens. It could have been a slow burner or a nice twist but, my god, that was boring.

I did watch the first couple on edge as I kept expecting Sean Bean to lamp her but I think that's just because it was Sean Bean.

We have the exact same purple suitcase and car. Eek. I think the music represented what can be going on your head when outwardly you seem calm. It was very jarring. Love both actors, would prefer to see Sean Bean in another series of Broken and don't get me started on Unforgotten 😭 All we do is hideaway 🎼
The theme tune to Unforgotten is FANTASTIC!!! You bought it right back yo me.
