I agree. They’re not even calling them episodes anymore but segments!!! They’re not even interesting and the Proust series or whatever it was was so boring.

Apparently hard, proper journalists must NOT have an opinion according to Mia, because they are government funded and must remain neutral. Sharing the fact (not an opinion) about the war that Antoinette did apparently crossed a line. Of course Holly gave a big preamble about this segment not being about her or the ABC but a broader conversation, but Mia must've said 10x any journalist at the ABC must be impartial because they're not privately owned

I admit I haven’t listened to the episode, but this is very much Leigh Sales’ perspective as well regarding the impartiality of journalists. Her Andrew Olle lecture last year was on this topic. They are close friends and have surely been talking about it.

She reshared a post from Human Rights Watch. I would hardly call it inflammatory. I don’t think journalists have to be completely devoid of an opinion, what about everyone talking about The Voice, covid vaccines and marriage equality?
Or is it just opinions that Mia doesn’t like to hear?

The journalist who was fired only shared a post. Mia doesn't like anyone who disagrees with her. She literally made a media company so that she can espouse her views without consequence. Mia absolutely has skin in this game regarding the sacking.

People have opinions. ABC aren’t paying anyone enough to be a completely empty slate when they’re off the clock. What she posted was hardly inflammatory and does not mean that anything she produced for the ABC was biased. People are alwayssss accusing the ABC of bias and there is never any evidence of it. duck off Mia. I can’t believe this is what you chose to speak about (actually, I totally can

Plenty of ABC journalists were in favour of the Voice and spoke accordingly.
Patricia Karvelas and Fran Kelly are two that come to mind. Both excellent journalists, neither sacked or faced any repercussions for having an opinion.
With Leigh Sales I can understand why she took such a firm stance against ever sharing her political leanings, because she interviewed senior government ministers on a daily / weekly basis.
Mia’s shown she has skin in this particular game.

I like the convenience of having YouBeauty in my podcast app for when I occasionally listen to it, but this has given me the push I needed to just unsubscribe. I’ll manually download the episodes if I’m interested, but I’ll probably forget to even check. I don’t Mia getting my download numbers by default. See ya Mia!
