James is just being cruel. I don't know why Maeva gets off on this, but I'd be questioning my partner's character if he can act sooo cold to a friend who has done nothing to him. Friendships don't last forever but I can't imagine saying that to someone.
Also when they were comforting Izzy.....'you're the sweetest girl', 'you're drop dead gorgeous' - I'm sorry but those compliments are so lame I'd be pissed off if those are the only things that someone could tell me
I feel bad for Izzy, she's clearly very young and still trying to figure out who she is, she just needs someone her own age really, rather than older guys who have dated a ton of girls before and are in no rush to commit to a relationship.
id be VERY concerned if the man I was having a baby with, was so fickle, lacking in character, lacking in empathy and just outright cruel to someone he’d considered a friend for years.
the only way I can make sense of what’s going on (because this whole drama is just so bizarre):
Maeva was a big character and let’s face it, a bit of a cow. Both these things rubber Liv up the wrong way.
Tristan was out with James and probably a bit of a bad influence and encouraging him to cheat. Maeva wasn’t wrong when she said Tristan was always at the centre of drama and he’s shown himself to be perfectly happy to cover up and lie for his friends (e.g. Harvey).
Tristan then presumably told Liv about said cheating, Liv proceeded to take great delight in being cruel to Maeva about it (confronting her in that club scene).
maeva therefore hates Tristan for being there when James cheated and partially blames him, as it’s easier to direct her anger at him than the guy who she is pregnant with and is her
meal ticket fiancé.
James potentially feels betrayed that Tristan let the word get out but, as other people said on the show, he wasn’t even being subtle when he cheated. I think it’s more likely that he feels he was encouraged by Tristan to cheat and is projecting onto him; instead of feeling guilty and angry at himself, he’s directing it towards Tristan.
Maeva is probably spinning James’ reaction in her head as a positive - he’s just being
protective of her and
“caring” about her feelings. She seems to be ignoring the nastiness coming out.
maybe that’s all a bit of a stretch but the vindictiveness and cruelty of James’ attitude towards Tristan just doesn’t make sense at face value. Something more is going on here.
James could’ve said he just didn’t feel close to Tristan and didn’t feel a friendship was there anymore - but he stuck the knife in when he was telling Tristan he wasn’t invited to the wedding, when he casually disregarded years of friendship. He knew he was hurting him and It was very unpleasant to watch unfold.
this isn’t the first time James has thrown a friend under the bus either, and he’s definitely been happy to throw non-friends under the bus. He’s really shown himself to be a bit of a spineless, nasty coward. Not a nice couple at all.
