It as also similar to Christopher Alder who died in police custody and as they said on the show the cops were making monkey noises whilst he died and that happened and the cops got off so i thgt theyve linked Stephen Lawrence and Christopher Alder cases together for the show.
The thing with Line of Duty is that it doesn't even try to hide the connections to real life, Jed is very blatant with it, and there's part of me that respects it and then another part that doesn't know if it's unnecessary.

As soon as the name Lawrence Christopher was mentioned, given the context it came up in, I knew where it had come from. Same with Jimmy Saville being shown and named, or anything else that's come up.

I just don't know if we need an exact, or pretty much exact reference to real world issues randomly popping up in a storyline where we're having to link things together anyway, or if it's just a bit of a distraction.

why do people get aggy when others can’t remember every single detail, it’s all for fun, no big deal. I would have missed the incest thing tonight if it wasn’t for you guys, it’s easily done. The first series aired nearly a decade ago. And not everyone has time to rewatch it. It also can’t be expected that everyone can read through 16 pages of thread so things are going to get repeated.

I’m wondering if Jos gonna fix Kate up now for killing Ryan. It’s a long shot but might be a way of “getting rid” of her without actually killing her.

Veryyy interestinggggg

Hands up if you too slept like tit cos your mind couldn't shut off from bent coppers, OCGs, guns being fired and the letter H 🙃 this carry on is no good for my sleep pattern at all fella!
Woke at 3am, 5am, 6am and been reading here since! Thoughts going in a million and one directions, need to rewatch last night’s episode as I know there was bits I missed.

Oh of course!

And the Jean mcconville disappearance In Belfast is similar to John corbetts mum.

I know what you are saying- because it sort of jerks you out of the storyline. However- I have now decided I like it. I sometimes find myself thinking that something is too far fetched, ‘they really are overdoing the whole corruption thing’- and then you get reminded of all these terrible real life events!
I think it’s awfully clever 🤓

For me I think it's more with the example of last night and (Stephen) Lawrence Christopher (Alder).

If you know those cases the name will instantly jump out at you and you'll make those references, but if you know those cases you can probably see the reference without it needing to be spelled out for you and being a slight distraction.

If you don't know those cases then the name is going to be completely lost on you anyway, and just be a seemingly random name, so it makes little difference.

I guess it's not so much the references to real life but the way it's done that sort of jars me a bit when I'm watching.

Yes that’s true. Using real life cases but properly fictionalised names would still work, I guess.
Although I wasn’t aware of Christopher Alder in detail (shame on me, perhaps!) so didn’t mind at all being educated a little.

Thought there was a nice little parallel last night when Kate pleaded for her life, telling Ryan the evidence would be everywhere, just like with Lindsay and Dot "a forensic ground zero." Of course Dot was too rattled and far gone, maybe Kate has had more luck with Ryan. Having a gun pointed at him as well also puts the odds in her favour 😂
I agree with other posters, I really hope Ryan's not just 100% dead in the next ep, it'd be far better to get information from him or a deathbed confession 😏 or boot him into witness protection like that bent copper in s2, the one played by Sacha Dhawan.
