So far Lily has confirmed everything I thought about her, vain, disloyal, daddy issues, chip on her shoulder and completely loving her new lifestyle, for now at least. The pod is very entertaining but who needs enemies when you have a friend like Lily.

Miquita in contrast just comes across as dippy, immature and just chaotic. There is something embarrassing about hearing a middle aged woman talk about “boys” and M seems firmly stuck in the 90s/00s as far as her dating life is concerned.

I honestly think Andi Oliver (Miquita’s mum) is a huge enabler, I really respect and like Andi but I think she champions M and bigs her up to the point of infantilising her, just my impression from things she’s said and interviews. M just seems stuck in a forever “cool” teenage phase without any real responsibilities or the desire to grow up, it’s just weird.
 
I agree with everyone’s comments so far ….i do enjoy the podcast but it can feel more like Miquita interviewing lily at times and listing all her achievements and how amazing she is and lily never returns that favour to Miquita.

I think lily is happy doing that podcast when she’s talking about herself but she never asks Miquita anything or really engages in her stories. She’s very easy to dislike!

Think she has/had an eating disorder. I’ve mentioned it before, but she was on holiday with Simon Amstell somewhere and there was a tsunami. The emergency services came round with food and Miquita wouldn’t eat it as it had carbs in.

I have a cousin just like Miquita in that she too hasn't fully grown up, she did have a traumatic loss in her childhood which has def played a part in how she is now as an adult ( my cousin not Miquita) but whenever I see Miquita on Googlebox for example I immediately think of my cousin, the actions, mannerisms etc. it's uncanny
 
I think the friendship dynamic works for Lily, she has the upper hand, more money, more famous, stable relationship (ish) and kids. If the roles were reversed I doubt their friendship would have lasted. Lily is entertaining by her sheer lack of thought for anyone but herself. Miquita needs better friends and friends who have a tough love chat with her. I bet if we check back on her in a decade she will still be banging on about having babies one day and cute boys she fancies.

Miquita is still infinitely more likeable and I think her proximity to Lily and women like Lily have probably done a right number on her self esteem.

Now you mention it, other than “cousin Phoebe” do they ever talk positively about a girl they know?

Also at this point they might as well get another chair and get Phoebe in there because she’s featuring in every episode. Who is the famous cousin Phoebe? Is she in the industry too?

Not to make excuses for either of them, at all, but I do think they’re both examples of how much the media can mess you up if you become “famous” at a young age - particularly in the early 00s when they did.

I think Miquita’s eating stuff is directly a result of being called fat by the press.

Also, as I’ve said, I don’t think lily helps herself, but I think her need to constantly seem like the most intelligent person in the room is a reaction to the press too.

I think there is one noticeable difference between them - Miquita clearly has a good relationship with her family and Lily clearly doesn’t. I think that’s evident in how Miquita can sound warm and genuinely joyous about people whereas Lily sounds quite cold and removed and like she’d rather die than be sincere.
 
I thought it was quite amusing they didn't really address the points raised by the listener who chose the topic of beauty regarding their own comment/behaviours. She very clearly challenged them in her voice note.

Also hilarious next week's topic is "beggy friends" so..... exactly the dynamic of their friendship. It very much feels that Miquita is constantly vying for Lily's approval and attention.

Gas bill needed paying

Miquita was once talking about how she grew up poor and they couldn’t pay the gas bill so they had to do a theatre show with THE Lily Savage, she didn’t seem to realise how truly hard up people don’t have such opportunities
 
I just watched the whole of Riches to Rags on YouTube, very nostalgic so thanks to whoever linked it!

Lily’s sister Sarah gave me second hand anxiety with how flakey but desperate to make it work she was :eek: I think the concept was quite good, they were just clueless with the business side of it. They bought far too much stock and their price points were eye watering as they went for Ossie Clark and YSL stuff !!!??? Not affordable vintage!
 
I am fascinated by the dynamic between Lily and Miquita, M totally vies for L’s approval and views her as the more ‘adult’ of them as she openly admired L’s husband and children. L appears dismissive of M and her desire to have children. I’m a mixture of envy at how thin they are and glamorous, and dismissive at how shallow and oblivious to their own privilege.
 
Whenever a caller says something personal and sensitive like ‘I’m recovering from cancer’ or ‘I was really low’ as examples, it’s always Miquita who says ‘thanks for opening up’ or wishes them well. Lily NEVER does. And the way she never remembers what Miquita refers to in the past is so mean girl vibes.

I noticed this - Miquita always acknowledges what they’ve said and like you say wishes them well and lily just stays quiet. She is genuinely only engaged when talking about herself and once you notice that you REALLY notice it each episode!

(don’t know how many more times I’d like to say ‘notice’ in one paragraph 😂
